Ok besides Bane's obvious love for his sexeh torched hair-do, what do you guys think of Hiccup Horrendous Haddock III??
I personally loved his witty comments, his skill for creation, and his need to be himself rather than what others want or wish he would be.
....And his relationship with the ever loveable Toothless, who shall have a thread all his own so if you wish to gush over Hiccup's pet rather than Hiccup himself head on over there, XDD.

Hiccup- Deadpan snarker powers go! (yes, I LOVE that hair!)
His snarky comments are my favorite trait of his, aside from his ability to overcome obstacles (like... what happened after the last fight... *trying to not spoil it yet). He just seemed like a lot of fun to be around and like a great person.

Hiccup was pretty awesome. Usually I don't like main characters in animated films because a fair amount of them are either: 1. Kind of on the Mary-Sue or Gary Stu side. Examples - Nearly every Disney princess. 2. Under-dog (and generally nerdy-looking and/or ostracized) outcasts who think they can achieve ANYTHING with their hard work and determination (and they usually and unrealistically do.) Example= Flick from A Bug's Life and others, but I can't seem to recall them right now. XD 3. Spunky, arrogant characters who in the end, almost always learn modesty, kindness and humbleness through their arcs. Examples = Coraline from... Coraline (lol) and Lightning McQueen from Cars. Although Hiccup DID have a lot of the NO. 2 underdog mix in him, he was different in the sense that he didn't have a one-track mind and end-up getting what he originally desired. Usually for such protagonists, they say "I'm gonna be the best in my field!!11!1," stick with that and almost always end up achieving their goals with relatively little sacrifice. But in Hiccup's case, he DIDN'T really get to slay a dragon like he originally desired - instead - he actually kind of went through character development and became different person with a different set of goals, lol. Oh, that and personal sacrifice. He didn't get it so easy in the end, either. During that whole "Disney death trope scene" near the end, I kept thinking, "Ooooh plz - the guy's gonna be totally fine in the end; this is cliche' as hell." But then when I watched that upcoming scene with Hiccup waking up out of his bed... and seeing well, yeah - you know - I was like, "Well HOLY SHI- that's ballsy." And not very cliche' or expected in a children's film. And almost realistic in the sense that everything doesn't work out all hunky-dory with just determination and hard work, ya know? And besides that, he was also a very uppity and (of course,) snarky character, and that made him all the more likable. So yeah, Hiccup's awesome indeed. And I have to agree with the fire-blown hair. He looked kinda cute with that doo; would've been cool if something similar to that was his default hair style in the movie instead.

When I was in the theater I actually heard a couple people gasp and start talking when they revealed.... THAT. It was a gutsy move for a kid's movie and not very expected at all. It's like they wanted to show that everything is alright now, but some sacrifices had to be made. Not everything can be fine for nothing, you know?
His snarky comments are just hilarious, it's why I love him so much!
I actually thought they might change his hair to that somewhere along the line... I was wrong. Wish I was right though.

Lol, everyone seems to like his fire-blown hair... I'm actually not sure if I do. Sorry, guys. I think he was hawt anyway, though. Seriously, I'd love to know someone exactly like Hiccup.
I especially like how Hiccup was really quite a realistic character. I mean, sure, he was really quite underdog-turned-celebrity, but as an underdog I could somewhat relate to him. Like, he knew he wasn't liked, but it didn't stop him from being himself and questioning conformity.
His best scenes? I liked the beginning, with his narration. It was.. (hmmm, clever?) Well, I thought it was pretty cool how he just described everything in narration, but also not saying anything about himself except his apprenticeship and how he's never killed a dragon. Also in the beginning when he's hiding from the spontaneously-combustible dragon behind that tree or whatever it is, and then Stoick finds him and he has a look that's almost like "Did I do that?".
The other little part I liked was the ending was when Astrid punched him in the arm and Hiccup said something like "Oh, is that how it is, is it?"... I lol'ed.
Hiccup in a word? Adorkable.

Hiccup is now known as "Hiccup the Adorkable". I DEEM IT SO.
Other characters that are underdogs turned celebrity have either basked in it, pretended to like it while freaking out, or something similar. Hiccup, you could tell he was uncomfortable with the entire situation. He didn't want to be a celebrity and he obviously didn't want to stay that way. All he really wanted was Stoick to recognize him and to apparently get a date.
But that backfired and near the end he just wanted everything to be back to the way it was before once he knew what dragons were really like.

Wow, I'm not the only one who thinks Hiccup is hawt. xD
Oh goodness, he was SUCH a good character! You don't really get a snarky dude as a main character, I've noticed. At least one who is likably snarky. And he does go through some nice characterization arcs, chaging his goals and...what happens at the end (which I was, sadly, expecting, cuz I'd read a spoiler...but it was still just as startling to actually SEE it)...just sort of ties it all together, shows that he has changed quite a bit from the beginning. Physically AND mentally and all that.
Also, his animation and Jay Baruchel's voice-acting added BIG TIME to his awesomeness. ^^

No, no you are not. XD
Snarky main characters that are guys that you like really are hard to find. I think the only ones I really like are Hiccup, Kyon from Haruhi Suzumiya and... does Batman count?
His character development was spectacular! You could tell that over time he changed quite a bit, but they didn't have to show you everything because you could see it in how he looked.

I think the whole reason I was so into him was that I've been in his situation before.
I mean, I'm pretty sure a lot of kids been through the 'I want to make my dad proud/I want to be noticed.' situation but it was the fact that he did it without changing himself that made him different, but I was like that too.
He was by far my second favorite character, me and him have a good bit in common.

There's been some posts mentioning how he's pretty much not a stereotypical leading man, and while he carries some stereotypes with him, it's true. He's not the norm by any far stretch of the imagination. He's overconfident and blustery at the beginning, putting on a lot about his own attitude, thinking he can be so big and bad... and he knows quite well he's not.
Of course, he then turns around and wants to admit he's a total wuss, but everyone now is convinced he's not. The poor kid can't catch a break. XD
Am I the only person who seriously had tears in her eyes and running down her cheeks when he put down the metal foot?

Am I the only person who seriously had tears in her eyes and running down her cheeks when he put down the metal foot? No. No you weren't. Something about his character really just puts him apart from everyone else. I don't exacty WHAT it is, but he just seems to be on some higher level of innocence and wisdom, with a side of foolhardiness and a sprinkle of snark. He was never really 'brave' until there was no choice left and it was either him risk it all or let them die. I'd say he'll always be a 'flight' over 'fight' type tamer. No pun intended. And would prolly have a VERY bad reaction to killing nearly anything. I wondered if he suffered any trauma, knowing he took the dragons life even though it go to kill all them. After all, he WAS the one saying they defend themselves. Not to mention he's the friggn Dragon Whisperer. And magic fingers, apperently.
