My brother got the 360 game and I noticed something strange. Hiccup, as noticeable from the commercials and game play videos, still has his (SPOILER) foot.
But if you look very carefully he has a limp and his left leg quivers when he's pushing stuff over. I think Hiccup was true to his word that he would tweak his prosthetic and made a kind of... Boot attachment for himself in the game. That or they were just to lazy to give him the prosthetic and animate a heavy limp for him. The game IS post movie after all.
And I agree with your assessments, Hiccup is essentially the basic hero guy. But there are so many layers to him, so much depth, that he just isn't!
I had a similar thought myself Dit. I have a feeling that, for a while, he would be depressed for a multitude of reasons. Hurting Toothless, losing his foot, "disappointing" his dad, and being forced to kill the Red Death. I don't think he ever wanted to kill it at all, but he knew he had to.

That is a bit odd, but I suppose more that they did that to.... 1) Not give away part of the ending, I've never played a game based off a movie where one of the main characters' appearance gave away part of the ending. 2) Not to freak out parents who were like "I'll let him play the game and if I like how it looks he'll see the movie." I know that sounds stupid but I heard a woman in Walmart like that. 3) Show Hiccup has indeed made adjustments, on the facebook RP thing I made him make a boot-attachment so he wouldn't sink in mud (a problem I had a lot when I was on crutches a couple years ago), so it makes sense to me that he'd do something like that.
Also, I WANT TO PLAY THAT GAME.
As for the actual character himself, I fraking LOVE him. He was clever, too clever for his own good at points (he chooses a dragon raid to test his bola cannon on a Night Fury?). Hiccup and I have the same sarcastic sense of humor and I love seeing that sense of humor since all the "humor" I usually see only makes me laugh like "What is this crap!?". He's adorkable (one of my FAVOURITE words EVER) and I can't help but love his kind of character, plain and simple. I personally didn't like the windblown/burnt hair look, not entirely sure why though.

I loved the hair..
And whoever said it earlier, about having tears in their eyes when the metal foot swings into view? I was SOBBING.
I absolutely loved Hiccup. From his look, to his sarcastic look on life. I loved his humor, and his typicial yet not typical underdog to hero transformation.

Hiccup was by far my favorite character. He's what I like in a guy; witty, sarcastic, caring, kind, creative, and humble. I'm a huge movie geek, so I've seen a lot of heroes and heroines. Hiccup stands out from a lot of them in that he is essentially a Viking nerd. He knows his limitations and tries to get past them, never giving up. He's got a stubborn streak and he tends to not let things get him down for very long; he's a hardworker and wants to live up to expectations. Basically, he is a character with a lot of depth. His VA also helped me love the character. I also love his burnt-back hair ("Oh come on!"). Even though he's scrawny, he's adorable!

I, the newest member of this forum at the moment, am bringing this thread back to life because I absolutely frickin love Hiccup. He's one of the cutest animated characters I have ever seen... no, scratch that... he IS the cutest animated character I have ever seen. When I went to see the movie for the second time I took my older sister... she couldn't stop laughing through the entire movie, and at the end she kept telling me "Hiccup just had the funniest lines!" and I was like "Yes. Yes he did indeed."
I was very surprised at what was revealed at the end. I totally did not see that coming at all, and when I was in the theater for the third time I heard someone gasp about it when it was revealed and I was thinking "Yeah... I didn't see it comin' either." I do love how they added that in there though; it does indeed show that nothing works out perfectly for these animated characters. Hiccup totally overcame this huge ordeal with his life... and still, not everything came out perfect for him in the end. Though he just shook it off and got over it, which I also found awesome. XD
Hiccup is just an all-around awesome character. I love his quirky attitude and basically ALL of his lines crack me up to no end. Astrid: *twists Hiccup's hand* Hiccup: "OW! Why would you do that?!" ... XD That's gotta be my favorite. Hiccup is just a boy looking for his father's acceptance... yes, that's been done before in movies, but this was done really well because his dad didn't totally hate him or anything. It was a tough relationship between the two of them, and it smoothened out by the end, and I loved that. <3
Oh and also... yes. Hiccup's burnt-back hair is AMA-ZA-ZING. Frickin' gorgeous. <33333

Hiccup is AWESOMENESS, and yes he is adorkable X3. So far, having the game, I noticed that he's one of the only characters who is voiced by the same actor as in the movie. (Astrid and Stoick, I believe, have clear examples of different actors for the game.) graphics are pretty good, accept I noticed that his starting dragon (Night Fury, of course) isn't clearly Toothless: The dragon has both of the black fins on his tail :<
But Hiccup is definately different in the movie (In the greatest of ways) he kind of sees through and his heart tells him not the kill the dragon but his mind tells him to do it to show he is a warrior like his father. The results are obvious, he went with his heart. Despite the troubles, he gained a strong friendship with Toothless and eventually showed his father and all the vikings (With help from Astrid and the others) that dragons are not killers at heart and end up gaining them as pets and friends X3
Hiccup's voice and sarcasm gets to me to. "Pain, love it." Best lines. Along with "Thank you for nothing, you useless reptile!"

Hiccup is definitely a very cool character. I like him because you can totally relate to being the outcast. I know I've felt like one lots of times. So, I know how he must feel when people look down on him. I mean you have to be pretty cruel to name your kid Hiccup. So, yeah I definitely like Hiccup. Especially when he risks his leg to protect his village.

Its funny that when I first watched the movie in its few minutes, I thought Hiccup was just your typical whiney teenage archetype movie character, but as the movie progressed and we get to see more of him, he became one of my favorite characters. I guess its kinda like Luke Skywalker; he whines and complains in the beginning of Episode IV, but grows to become a powerful Jedi towards the end of the first trilogy.

I just love Hiccup so darn much! Love his fired-up hair-do as well as his every-day hair. It's so fluffy and soft-looking I just wanna ruffle it up!! I love that he's kind to animals, because I'm such an animal-lover too. His sarcastic attitude is great and they couldn't have picked a better voice for him. I thought Jay Baruchel did an awesome job. You know things are bad when you have a major crush on an animated, fictional character <3
