Okay, I know I'm super late...but did you hear Jay Baruchel (our Hiccup) got engaged last year? Yeah, I know you knew that. Just thought I'd put it up!

Okay, I know I'm super late...but did you hear Jay Baruchel (our Hiccup) got engaged last year? Yeah, I know you knew that. Just thought I'd put it up! He was on the late late show with Craig Ferguson at the beginning of the year and he talked about his engagement. It was hilarious, all I could picture was Hiccup and Gobber having a conversation about Hiccup being engaged to a girl from Montreal!

This is kind of off topic, but Jay Baruchel (whom we all know is the V.A. of Hiccup), is single again. He split from his fiance, so if you're in Canada (like me!), maybe you have a chance with "Hiccup"

Movie Version: Hilarious through sarcasm, unlike most (all) characters on Berk. Seriously one of a kind.
Book Version: Still hilarious, though less so through sarcasm. It was a nice touch with him knowing "dragonese' but as I do with most characters, believe him to be inferior to his movie-self.

This is something I've been wondering about lately.
The first is why wasn't it "modified" after the initial model was created?
I assume the rough appearance was because Gobber needed to come up with something quick and easy, he didn't have time to make a more polished version.
But later on, once the initial concept had been proven, they could have made modifications to make his disabillity less obvious.
The idea was I had was that they encase it in a fur boot and maybe put some kind of traction mechanism on the base of the boot (because Hiccup keeps slipping over on the ice). Also, being metal, it could sieze up when snow gets into the mechanism, so a protective fur coating would keep it functional in this situation.
Also, why does he keep wearing it in bed? You can't wear a prothesis all the time, otherwise it causes open wounds which then get infected. Most people with artificial limbs remove them when they don't need them, so the limb it is attached to doesn't have the stress of being compressed by the fastening mechanism 24 hours a day. So, at the very least, he should remove it when he goes to bed and put it back on when he gets up in the morning.

There's been some posts mentioning how he's pretty much not a stereotypical leading man, and while he carries some stereotypes with him, it's true. He's not the norm by any far stretch of the imagination. He's overconfident and blustery at the beginning, putting on a lot about his own attitude, thinking he can be so big and bad... and he knows quite well he's not. Of course, he then turns around and wants to admit he's a total wuss, but everyone now is convinced he's not. The poor kid can't catch a break. XD Am I the only person who seriously had tears in her eyes and running down her cheeks when he put down the metal foot? Nope! I hate/love that scene. Love it because it's such a touching scene between Hiccup and Toothless. Hate it because Hiccup is going to go through the itching and the burning of his phantom limb, and if they ever show that (the burning), it'll break my heart. Sorry for all the angst and tear-jerkiness...

He split from his fiance, so if you're in Canada (like me!), maybe you have a chance with "Hiccup" ;) Aww...I don't live in Canada...but if I did, Jay would probably be too old for me...anyway, I can relate to Hiccup a bunch, too. I was an outcast during high school, and I'm kinda still an outcast in my family...like someone else here said, when I looked at Hiccup, I saw myself...he and not only have similar looks (brown hair, freckles, buck teeth, 90 pounds (almost for me, hopefully more), skinny) but we also have a similar personality. Okay, he wasn't as antisocial as I am, but he did run off to be with Toothless in the afternoons, and if I had a pet like Toothless, I'd wanna do that too most of the time, even if I wasn't being praised...let's see...my dad is kinda like Stoick (he's not like huge or the chief or mayor or governor or President or anything) as in he angers easily, he's mostly in a bad mood, he drinks a lot...and, like Hiccup, I don't have a good relationship with my dad. I bet Hiccup would've had a good relationship with his mom. I kinda have a good relationship with her...but it's not the best...um let's see...what else do Hiccup and I have in common...oh, I don't have any friends. I know Hiccup does but he doesn't at the end of the movie...okay...that's all I can think of!

Kind of odd post but, I'd like to apologise for past me's ignorant comments on the topic of autistic!hiccup .. turns out my knowledge of autism was incredibly misinformed and uneducated and the way I handled it (as someone presumed neurotypical at the time) was very immature. Probably no one remembers it anyway, but it's within this thread and I really wanted to apologise. Since then, I now know I am Autistic, and that it is entirely not what I was lead to believe.
In addition, Hiccup does seem to be Autistic in my opinion, obviously theres no way to tell because he isn't a real person and we only see very small parts of his everyday activity, but he shares a lot of the personality traits. I think this is enough to be considered a very possible headcanon, paired with the positivity and self confidence gained from having a likeable character to not only relate to, but to help stub the ignorance which I once held as well.

I'm not an expert on Autism, but this is what I know.
There are levels of Autism, High-Functioning, mid-level and Non-Functioning. High-Functioning can exist in society for the most part unaided, but the major problem with any Autism sufferer is the inability to multitask, so they can only do one thing at a time. And physical contact is not advised, something to do with skin sensitivity. Mid-level need supervision in public, but still possess limited verbal communication. Non-Functioning have very little verbal communication and need constant supervision. In some cases, the High and mid levels may be geniuses, but only a High level is capable of communicating their intelligence properly, so a mid level sufferer is not capable of showing their intellect.
Also, it's a another symptom that sufferers are very obsessed with order, they prefer predictability, so any changes (even as simple as not putting a hairbrush back where you left it) is irritating to them. So anything that isn't organised, say large crowds or chaotic behavior is repellent. They also don't deal well with sudden, unpredicted events.
So, based on the above information, I doubt Hiccup could truly be considered autistic, because he's not bothered by changing circumstances. And he adapts well when surprised, planning new strategies when the prior tactics don't work any more. Also, he's minorly chaotic at times.
