Well, that could be true as well. However, did you notice that Hiccup sometimes seems to have a hard time just doing what the others do? I mean, he asks Gobber questions about Night Furies while a Deadly Nadder is attacking him, and all the others rather try to get in cover.

I mean, he asks Gobber questions about Night Furies while a Deadly Nadder is attacking him, and all the others rather try to get in cover. Well he was kinda zoned out for that training session because he was so focused on trying to figure out Toothless. There are a couple times when he does pay attention, like at the begining when the Nadder shoots his axe and later when Astrid manages to get his attention. At those points he seems to be doing okay... I think he just wasn't paying very good attention. Granted he really could've chosen a better time to ask questions but I don't think it has as much to do with he can't follow anyone else's lead as it does the fact that his mind works differently and he was distracted. For that matter one could argue that when my dad takes his eyes off the road when he's driving and starts talking to me or my mom that he isn't copying the other people driving well enough.

Maybe it's just me, but lately people have been chalking up any anti-social behavior in fiction as Aspergers.

I kid, it's just that the link says there is mild profanity in the movie. Although I know that they probably mean the times the say 'hell' (which is few and far between). I like joking around about Astrid's meltdown where it seems like she drops some vicious cuss words. This is where the sludge bucket comes in. And now it's not funny.

Just found this forum, and I've been thinking for ages that Hiccup has mild Asperger's. So I'm rather pleased to see I'm not alone on this train of thought!
Aside of the specific examples already brought up (whether you agree with them or not), it's repeatedly mentioned that Hiccup is different. He thinks differently. That's, ultimately, what Asperger's is. Your brain works in a different way to most people's.
There's also incidental stuff like his voice being rather 'flat', and even being left-handed (apparently it's more common among Aspergers compared to the general population). It's not proof on its own, but it adds up if you're thinking along that line anyway.
To some extent it might be a case of wanting to see characters I like as similar to myself (I do have mild Asperger's and do see some of my own 'quirks' in him), but I didn't set out to prove it or anything, it just occurred to me. And now that I've thought of it, I can't not think of it.
I guess that maybe people who have Asperger's are more likely to want to label 'borderline' characters as having it, but non-Asperger's people will more likely disagree. It just depends on your viewpoint.
But yeah, if you want to believe it, there's plenty of evidence. If you don't want to believe it, the evidence is pretty debatable. So interpret it whichever way you find preferable...

I think one of the reasons why I like the movie so much is because I could really relate to Hiccup. I know what's it like to be made fun of because of my bony arms and legs and to be underestimated just because of my scrawny looks, just like Hiccup was at the beginning of the movie, and I know I could never kill a dragon. I like them too much, and my mom has always said that I would let a dog bite my hand off before I would kill it, so I guess I'm a lot like Hiccup in that way, too.

I like them too much, and my mom has always said that I would let a dog bite my hand off before I would kill it, so I guess I'm a lot like Hiccup in that way, too. Me too. I was picked on a lot in high school for my looks and was even told by numerous teachers through out my primary school years that I would never amount to anything. When I was 11, I was diagnosed with dyslexia and my teacher told my parents to pull me out of school because it wouldn't be worth it to keep me there. Despite that however, my parents and siblings have always told me that I am one of the kindest people they have ever met and that they know I would never say a bad thing about anyone, including those who made my life miserable when I was younger. It's like what Hiccup said "I looked at him and I saw myself"... maybe that's why the first time I ever saw Hiccup, I instantly connected with him. My sister has even told me that Hiccup and I are "kindred spirits".
