I think he broke his leg when the queen dragon hit him and he fell off while his left foot is hooked on the prosthesis that he built for toothless. As you know he has his left foot hooked to control the tail of toothless and because toothless was flying up so fast when he was hit, his foot was forced to get off the hooked and he fell down.

i think that Hiccup lost his leg because of when he hit the red death. The force that knoked Hiccup out his sadlle may have torn off Hiccup's leg because it was caught in the sterrup. But I did admire the work that Gobber did on the leg. I mean the spring suspention and all

I think toothless bite hiccups leg off and then before they landed so he carried hiccup into his arm and wings . toothless probably ate his foot or spit it out or they (viking) Had to cut it off. That wouldn't have happened. Toothless is toothless, remember? He has retractable teeth, he wouldn't have extended them while trying to save his best friend. |

I didn't see his left leg at all when Toothless opens his wings. I see his right leg in between his back legs, and the right isn't the one that got removed.

Except it was his right leg that was visible, and intact at the end. His left leg was non existent

I think that toothless crushed the leg in his teeth and when they dived into that giant fire, toothless might have wrapped his wings around everything but the leg, and when they landed, toothless shifted his weight so that all of hiccup was enveloped in his wings.

I think, agreeing with someone else theory, that possibly Hiccup's leg got tangled in the metal of the tail and was either *severed* or mangled beyond repair so they removed it. :,(

Well I'dunno, the way Hiccup's father rolled him over after the reveal seemed too easy if Toothless was laying on his leg... Then again... I could be remembering the scene wrong. xD The crash would have effected both legs and not just one , lower part of the leg. It wasn't the fire for the same reasons. It was indeed the teeth. In the parrellel , Hiccup was directly the cause of Toothless loosing his tail flap and now Toothless as said in number 2 , got him back,. Both didn't mean to do what they did exactly. But both did it none the less. Toothless did not have long enough forelegs to grab hiccup, watch the scene again. Farewell |

If you ask me it seems that as Tooothless was going for the save he just didn't have the time to cover all of Hiccup so his leg was exposed to the Red Deaths explosion.
