Mouse couldn't remember doing it much herself, but something she'd often seen her Aunt do, after a long day, was soak her feet. Mouse had wondered what it was supposed to do to help; she didn't really understand it, but now...Well, she was willing to try. After a whole day of walking (slowly) around, staring absently at the trees, birds, random insects buzzing around, Mouse found her feet were incredibly sore. And hey, she did happen to find herself near a stream...
"I guess it can't hurt," the girl mumbled, standing about ten feet from the water and staring at it. She bent down a bit, taking her boots off and leaving them where they were. They weren't in the best shape anymore, thinning at the toes, so nobody would take them. She thought so, anyway. The stockings didn't come off until she was five feet from the water, also lying crumpled on the grass.
Another few feet out in the water was a little rock, as if it were just made for someone to sit on. Mouse lifted her skirt a bit as she splashed towards it before taking a seat, staring at her feet in the water. ...Didn't feel any different. "Maybe I have to wait a while..." she said softly.

Mordar was doing one of his normal fly-bys of the island, and was looking around at the people, who looked like ants. He spotted a girl who was sitting in a stream. He had never seen such a sight, and was wondering why anyone would swim or even wade in the freezing water he found around the island. As far as he was concerned, water for him meant a refreshing drink, unless of course he wanted to wash.
He thought he'd better check this out, and dove to where the girl was sitting, stopping just a few meters shy of the stream.

So far oblivious to the slight change in scenery, Mouse lifted a foot out of the water, staring at it a moment. Still no real change, unless you counted being wet, and a starting to get a little numb. But at least when one was wet, she thought, slipping it back in the water, you didn't feel quite so cold when we got back in the water.
Mouse sighed a little, starting to feel a bit bored. She didn't know how long one was supposed to sit anyway...a few minutes or an hour? Her aunt could go either way. I guess as long as it's over before dark, I can-- Mouse was turning her head to look around, and suddenly froze up as she caught sight of the "visitor." Sitting completely still, she stared for a few moments, nervously scooting over on the rock until she was nearly falling off. Arms shaking a little, she tried to avoid eye contact, though still looked in teh dragon's general direction.

Mordar continued watching, wondering why the human was doing this, and approached slowly. He stopped at the very edge of the stream, and drank some water. Flying was thirsty work!
Then he looked up at who he saw in the water..

It didn't look like it was going to go away--Mouse's eyes went wider. If anything, I think it got closer! She felt relief for a few moments as all the dragon did was take a drink...and then it looked up at her again and the poor froze up once more. Biting her lower lip, trying not to whimper too much, Mouse scooted a bit further off the rock--and nearly fell in. Crying out in shock as her legs and jumper got wet, Mouse scrambled back up, making some splashes.
"Waaaagh..." she cried softly, shaking a little. Now on her hands and knees, crouching down on the rock much like a four-legged creature herself, Mouse looked back up towards the dragon. Don't eat me, don't eat me, don't eat me... she prayed. She glanced down at the water between them--that would keep her safe, right? For a brief moment the girl considered splashing water in its general direction--but that might make it mad or something.

Mordar stared at Mouse for another few minutes, then decided that maybe he would try what this human was doing. He walked into a shallow portion of the water, and sat, letting the water soak his legs. The water didn't feel as cold to him, since he had scales to compensate, while people only had their thin layer of skin.
Again he sat and waited, then looked over at Mouse again. Finally, he walked out of the water again, albeit with wet feet, and sat by the banks of the stream again as if watching for something.

If Mouse had been another creature, like a cat, perhaps, then her fur would have been standing completely on end when the dragon got even closer, sitting the shallow area of the water. She tensed up, watching and clinging to the rock as if for dear life, and was only able to relax a fraction when it got back out and sat there on the bank. What does it waaaant? Mouse thought to herself, trying to get her trembling under control. It didn't seem to want to eat her--unless it was playing with its food before eating.
A quick breeze made her shiver, reminding her that her wet feet and legs weren't in the water anymore, and so extremely vulnerable to the cold. Teeth chattering for a moment, Mouse looked past the dragon to her stockings and boots on the land. She had to put them on, or else she'd freeze! And in the meantime, it would be very uncomfortable... Seeing no other option, Mouse shut her eyes tightly and stepped off her perch, lifting her skirt as she tried to cross the water with her eyes shut. If she could just walk in a diagonal path, moving past the dragon, it would be okay--
"Ah!" Mouse cried out in shock and cold as her bare feet slipped on the rocks underwater, sending her right back into it. She sat on her behind, now completely drenched from both splash and fall, coughing, shivering, and brushing her bangs off her forehead. Risking a peek at where she was, Mouse suddenly froze again, eyes wide--as she saw she'd fallen directly in front of what she'd been trying to avoid. "A-ah..." she squeaked.

Mordar was still looking at Mouse as she fell into the water, and when she was sitting in the water, he took a deep breath, and blew, but did not shoot any fire. His breath was warm, and he wondered if that would dry her off.
Of course, he hoped that the fact he was taking the breath didn't scare her.

Mouse tensed up, then suddenly cried out in terror and curled into a ball when she saw him taking a breath. This was it, she was done for! No one would find her for days, and then they'd see her charred remains and her Aunt would be sad and-- What Mouse could only describe as "warm wind" ruffled her hair a bit, and she nervously looked up again, peeking between her fingers. She had to shut her eyes against the stream of air, but it still felt...oddly nice. A bit smelly, but alright. Curiously, she lifted a hand to one of teh spots that had been met with the dragon's breath--it wasn't completely dry, but on its way, and definitely more comfortable.
Though still afraid, Mouse rose to her feet, shaking a bit in cold and fear as she stared downward, hugging herself. Don't run...don't run...don't run yet... she told herself, taking deep breaths. "D-do it...a-ag-again?" she stuttered nervously, flinching right after in case she'd insulted him.

Mordar didn't understand what the girl said, but he took another breath and blew. He couldn't imagine it'd smell very nice, considering how much fish he ate. No fire came out this time either, as he was planning.
Then he decided to give her a bit longer lasting source of heat. He turned around and shot a blast of fire at a tree. Not just any type of flame of course: Night Fury flame. And most of the Vikings around here knew what happened with that kind of flame. He hoped that the fire would also warm Mouse.

Unfortunately, that had proved too much for the poor girl. Mouse went as pale as snow immediately and turned around bolting the opposite direction, heart pounding in her chest. I knew it! she thought in a panic. It's gonna eat me! It-- She stopped, only five feet from where she'd started, slowly turning around and staring. Her stockings and coots were still there, she couldn't go home without them. That'd be trouble! And...Mouse ventured closer. He'd just aimed at a tree...not her. She wouldn't be eaten or attacked...right?
"Uh-uhm..." Mouse mumbled, head bowed as she walked back towards Mordar, then past him. She flopped down, knees against her chest, a few feet from where the fire had landed. Still not making eye contact. So far he wasn't hurting her, so that was okay...and it was better to be dry and warm then to run home freezing and wet and without shoes. Even if you did have to sit near a dragon.
Mouse risked another look up at him, making eye contact for one of the first times in her life. "You...y-ou promise not to...to e-eat me? Or anything?" she asked, hands lowering away from her mouth.

Pausing, Mordar looked at Mouse again, then shot up into the air and flew circles around the small area where they had met. Then he set back down and sniffed around, as if looking for food.
He also looked up at the sky, to see if he could spot anyone or anything else, and when he couldn't, invited Mouse to feel his skin, by getting slightly closer to her.

Rather than run away or try to shrink, Mouse kept watching the dragon as he went skyward, shielding her eyes with her hands to stare. It was weird; she was still nervous, it was a dragon after all, but as the moments passed, he seemed less scary. That would certainly be something to tell her aunt!
"Ah! Uhm...hello, again," she said quietly lifting a hand when Mordar landed again. She couldn't help cringing back a bit when he got closer, but as he didn't seem to do anything else...And come to think of it, Mouse, for all her fear of dragons, had sometimes wondered what one felt like...Did they get cold, ever? Glancing at him nervously, Mouse moved her hand out, poking his skin with an index finger before quickly pulling back. When nothing happened still, she reached out again, poking Mordar a few times before scratching lightly.
"Hi, Auntie, guess what I did today! I sat next to a black dragon and touched his skin! Aren't I brave?" Wow, that would be something to tell...

Mordar didn't flinch as he was poked, and felt only slight taps against his tough skin. He thought about how hard it must be for all the humans, being without tough scales, to withstand the cold, and simply waited.
He spotted Mouse's shoes and stockings, but did nothing. After all, he didn't want to startle her.
Mordar then considered, for a moment, to accompany her back to wherever she lived, but decided to do that later, maybe fly over there sometime.

He wasn't doing anything to her...That made Mouse relax a bit more, until she almost wasn't nervous or scared at all. "You-You're an okay one...right?" she mumbled, tentatively using her entire hand to pet Mordar this time. "N-Nice..." She was almost completely dry by now, but she barely even registered it. For some reason, Mouse didn't seem to want to leave just yet.
She hadn't told anyone when she'd be back, so...it was okay to be out here for a bit longer, wasn't it? Mouse suddenly thought of something--a lot of people back home had dragon-friends, so maybe this one had a human, too? She looked around, stopping in her petting, to see if there was another person nearby. I don't see anyone... she thought, then looked back to Mordar. "U-uh...do y-you have a person-friend with you...? O-Or are you alone?"
