Hmm, looking at that pick of the kid in uniform it makes me wonder if the leaked storyboards were for the re-write of hatch/gift or the old version? I'm sure most of the same general lines and ideas and such stayed, but since there was a re-write I just wonder which version we saw?
I actually liked the storyboarded version that was let out a while back. It seemed pretty "emotional" at the end, especially when Astrid was looking at Hiccup and Toothless on the cliff while all the dragons flew away. Hopefully they kept that and didn't replace it all for laughs....like dreamworks tends to do...

@oneill Ok then XD. @oneill Well I usually start getting anoyyed by things for watching them too much XD. They're not even out and I don't want to get annoyed of them already . And I really prefer Gift better. I'm all like "F*** Book of dragons. I want gift!" I just know that Booj of dragons will be horrible or boring. No Toothless, no adventure no true story! Just boring talking about lame stuff dragons can do. EDIT: So were still confused about hatch and gift . Where is Pete when we need him? XD. I want answers NAO and not in a few months. Oh, and I'm getting g HTTYD DVD in a few days . My sister bought it for me along with a few other stuff, and she might send it on Monday and it'll arrive like at Friday or something .

Yeah, I know what you mean Toothless11. I have to practice the same self-restraint from over listening to the score. I definitely don't want to get sick of such a masterpiece. As for the Book of Dragons, I find it hard, personally, to form an opinion about it from what I see in the trailer. I believe they are doing that special because they want to set the stage for the TV series in which they may use those dragons in them and/or because one of the biggest requests of the movie was people wanted to see the other dragons shown in the manual. So were still confused about hatch and gift . Where is Pete when we need him? XD. I want answers NAO and not in a few months. Oh, and I'm getting a HTTYD DVD in a few days . My sister bought it for me along with a few other stuff, and she might send it on Monday and it'll arrive like on Friday or something . If he does answer, I'm telling you it's not going to be a surprise. He'll be all like "Yeah, we decided to veer away from the "How to..." title prefix and changed the title to "Gift of the Night Fury." How much did your sister pay for it? Walmart put the Blu-ray/DVD combo pack on sale today for only $12 online, but it ran out of stock: www.walmart.com/ip/14904317?dest=9999999997

I have a feeling both of shorts are kind of set up to put all the rest of the info in the franchise before the TV show. We get to know more dragons and the dragons in berk are finally completely settled with living with the Vikings...and apprently having little baby dragons now.
I'm sure after these two shorts, the TV show can simply jump right into the world where the Vikings and Dragons are completely comfortable with each other so they don't have to waste time establishing that connection.

Wow, that does look like a costumed kid! I was kind of half hoping they would leave the kids out.... Oh well. They're not that bad. Besides, it means that my screenplay got the ending somewhat right as well! XD
I think I'm convinced: Gift is Hatch. But I wonder why they called it Hatch all that time, though.

Pete just replied. And as I suspected, he confirmed that Hatch has indeed changed title to "Gift of the Night Fury." He didn't say why, but I think we can all assume that too for the simple reason that they thought it was a better title.

I'm starting to think that the Book of Dragons is going to be somewhat of a goofy dragon documentary (as Toothless11 fears) featuring a kind of an animated slide-show presentation of each dragon as seen in that promo video. After talking with Pete who only had info on what was going on with Gift of the Night Fury (including the fact that he only knew for sure that the voice cast returned for Gift) and that another team was handling "Book of Dragons," I don't think there will be much of a screenplay at all for Book of Dragons. I also think it's still possible that the Book of Dragons might have someone else voicing Astrid as we heard in that short 10 second leaked clip. Everything that I've seen and heard indicates that "Gift of the Night Fury" is the feature presentation and that "Book of Dragons" is more like glorified bonus material with very little production value and probably no storyline/screenplay.

Well, we all knew that Book was going to be the "B-side". Because who would buy a 22-minute almost-TV show for $15? They could buy the single disc version of HTTYD for $11. So they threw in all the other stuff as well. Maybe they couldn't find a network that would air Hatch, so they changed its name and removed the holiday special label.

I doubt it was a matter of failing to find a network willing to air it. I'm thinking that they just figured there's more money to be had if they could come up with enough supporting material, as you said, to sell a packaged product. The game card was probably their biggest reason to turn it into a bundled sellable product.

I don't recall anyone saying that. However, in my OP, I did say that I assumed these shorts would be different than the Hatch one (I just changed it), but Peter from DreamWorks just confirmed that they are the same - or more precisely, Hatch has been retitled to Gift.
I imagine the game will be pretty kiddy and low-budget (even less production value than the official HTTYD console game). According to the press articles, the game will test your knowledge that you're supposed to acquire from the "Book of Dragons" short. You'll use the knowledge to fight and train the various dragons in an arena-style environment (sounds like the console version TBH). I'm not sure if you've ever played those really cheap flash games on the official HTTYD site, but if you have, I imagine the idea will be the same, but with an improved graphical environment and more fluid controls. I would be surprised if they actually create 3D arena environments that you can actually move your avatar around in. If they do, I'm sure it would be pretty simple, but surprising nonetheless.
Oh, I forgot to mention that Peter is currently busy working on Madagascar 3. That's why it took him a while to get back to me.

Madagascar 3??? Rally, the series and sequel was stupid enough to ruin the whole thing. And like I feared, Book of dragons won't be at all interesting. I would HATE to see a HTTYD short/episode/sequel with goofy and stupid stuff like madagascar. That would just ruin the whole thing. Even in the trailer, I was so excited when I watched the Gift part. But when it got to book, I was all like -_-. This is probably going to be the worst short ever. Though Gift looks amazing enough to avoid making me hate HTTYD because of book XD. So Pete replied then. That's nice. I cant remember if I've got anymore questions though .
