Another interesting snapshot from a clip on YouTube: Uploaded with ImageShack.usLooks like a Night Fury donated some of its fire mass to a few bored guys which then placed the stuff on the ground and set it on fire at night? Actually, you get that effect when you dissolve styrofoam in way too much acetone, then pour everything including the excess acetone at the ground and light it. Note the ring of blue fire which is spreading from the ignition spot, I think it consists of vaporized acetone (acetone is extremely volatile), a few seconds are enough to let vaporize enough acetone for this effect. The styrofoam only increases the time it burns. Maybe this would be the explanation why you can see an indigo-colored ring of fire when Toothless attacks the command towers, while you can only see a much smaller, light-blue ring of fire when Toothless blasts the ground, and later lets a blast explode in the air to fly through. I think the indigo acetone vapor flame is just not bright enough to be visible at daylight. EDIT: Replaced the picture with a lower resolution one, original was way too big.

Can you post the video? Hey and do you think that maybe comparing a photo from the movie with those screen shots might help a bit? If you want I can post a few.

And yes, please post screenshots, especially of the end fight with the Red Death, I remember that at one scene there you could see one of Toothless' fireballs flying. But also please post screenshots of the explosions.

No problem, I'll post them later though since right now I'm getting ready for school and I don't have time.

Thanks for the pics, maybe also upload the scene where you can clearly see the flying fireball from Toothless to the Red Death (there are 2 such scenes in the final fight, one comes close after the other). BTW: Dreamworks still didn't respond.

UPDATE: In a German chemists' forum (I'm German, so I can understand it) I've read that acetylene explodes when it is compressed and gets heated, the energy unleashed is similar to nitroglycerine (!!!!!!!) This could be the explanation for the powerful blast wave you can see in the movie, maybe Night Furies can build up so much pressure in their fire breathing organs (maybe their lungs help doing this, at least they are probably big and powerful to supply enough oxygen for the amazing flight maneuvers) that enough acetylene gets into the semi-solid mass to cause such an explosion on impact. But why on impact, and not on ignition (already in their mouths)?

toothless11: Could you please upload more of the screenshots, I already told in a previous post which are still missing. EDIT: Please also add the pics where the yellow, sooty fireball from the explosion is rising.

So, what's with the pics now? Another interesting spot is where Hiccup rides Toothless and Toothless spits a small blast in ther air to fly through. You can perfectly see there how the fireball comes from Toothless' muzzle. A screenshot from there would be nice.
