Oh. That makes sense.
Still.... that part when Hiccup's waiting for Toothless to fly closer with his catapault and he sees this dark shape blotting out the stars... that was really creepy xD

I think he was simply trying to destroy the towers to give the dragons the advantage. Without them the Vikings had no real "high ground" to fight on.
That effect was very beautiful to me, I don't know why. Eerie, but beautiful.

Is it just me, or does Toothless remind me of Stitch? I did do some research and one of the lead animators of the movie had infact also animated Disney's Lilo and Stitch, so there must be some connection.
The first time I drew Toothless I completely forgot his man-made half of a tail...or perhaps I didn't see it at first...Lawl
Toothless though, is probably my favorite. Night Furies, next to Deadly Nadders, are probably my most fav species :3

I love Toothless soo much, he's adorable! I think he had almost more personality than anyone else in the movie, if that's possible. Favourite Toothless moment ~ when he drops the fish in Hiccup's lap, and Toothless gives him that look, like "Well?" And then Hiccup smiles at him, and Toothless smiles back. I squee'd, he just looked so cute. Also, at the end when Toothless is supporting Hiccup. <3

Toothless was probably my favourite character in HTTYD! xD (Yes, I'm sure that sentence has become a clichē, but, still - it's so hard not to like him.)
He's, for lack of a better term, cute, mischevious, playful. Without him, the plot would have been dull and not nearly as vibrant as it is now.
And, yeah, the same two directors behind Lilo & Stich were behind HTTYD, and so they wanted to incorporate some of Stitch's traits into Toothless. Don't really know, why, though.

Sanders said that Toothless and Stitch had a lot in common already, and there's a rumor going around that Sanders made him look like Stitch as a way to shoot the bird at John Lasseter. That's what I've heard, anyway. And considering the reasons Lasseter fired Sanders, I wouldn't blame him. |

I love his 'I will eat you!! Grr!! D'aww You has a fish!! *gummy smile*' way of showing emotion. He still the beast like Nightfury, but he's also an adorable creature everyone loves.
I love how they have him fly behind the little Dreamworks symbol at the beginning of the movie. It's a creepy/beautiful effect, great opening to the movie.
