After re-watching the movie I noticed how Hiccup says that in Berk it snows for 9 months and hails the other 3, but when we are there it's nice! Like spring! IS it like some states like Colorado, do they have like, a day or two of spring and summer and then the rest of the year in cold!?

I think he was being his ever snarky and sarcastic self to make the situations seem less than they are. Or to put extra "Hey, dragons are EPIC" in there. XD
I still say they are in Iceland, it has very similar weather.

Unrelated side note, Mithent, where is your avatar from? It looks like Toothless lying down with a fire or a lamp behind him and I just don't recognize it. I must confess I didn't make it myself - it was an icon from apparitions_d on LiveJournal. I think it must have been manipulated because I don't recall that either. Probably based on part of the Forbidden Friendship sequence when Toothless lies down? I just decided I needed an icon/avatar, thought that looked nice, and have been using it since. I didn't notice the animation error! You're right though, his left foot shouldn't control opening/closing as it does there.

* Fishlegs again. Out of all the other students in Dragon Training, he is the only one who isn't even slightly mean to Hiccup. He doesn't seem to say anything when everyone else is all "Who let you in here?" In the beginning of the movie, he looks like he's laughing because he found the situation funny, not out of malice. And when Hiccup stands in line, he even moves aside a bit to give him room. Whaddaya know, Fishlegs ain't a bad guy at ALL. XD And along with that he seemed to be spouting off the info for Hiccup's benefit (at least that's how it seemed to me). When Gobber yelled at him to stop and Fishlegs said that last stat he was leaning towards Hiccup in that way my friend used to lean over to say "Oh yeah, we had a review for tomorrow's test yesterday, it's on chapter three." and stuff like that back in high school.

As someone who hasn't read the books (I'm trying to find them, I found one copy of book 1 in two different stores, but I didn't have money for it either time) it felt nice to see someone willing to help the poor kid out. But since I've read up on the books I think it's a nice little egg to have Fishlegs being nice to reference the books. Well, Astrid was actually a very common name for Viking women. If I'm remembering right it means "divine beauty", which is fitting seeing as they had that slow-walk moment with just her that they use for beautiful women, and that always makes me lol (and Hiccup's face after that is priceless, my gran thought the kid 'messied himself' to use her own words). She is pretty though, and I'm not one to find the "blonde-hair-blue-eyes" thing attractive. ALSO: I looked through and didn't see this, but I might have missed it in the topic somewhere. Stoick and some other Vikings use a net to help pin down some Nadders that were going after sheep. If you look at the dragons as they're leaving you'll see two of the Nadders have decided to use that net to carry the sheep away. Quite clever.

(I did notice that about the sheep ) And yeah, divine beauty makes sense. That shot gave me a Baywatch/300 kind of feeling. Which sounds like an epic combo, but the shot itself was kind of disappointing. I facepalmed when I saw it the first time.

I like how the movie gave Toothless some trust issues towards Vikings, which of course makes sense since they kill dragons. Even when Hiccup brings a basket full of fish and the new tail, Toothless sort of circles around to the food, like he wants to keep Hiccup in his sight at all times while still keeping a safe distance. And Toothless does this funny little thing where he pushes a single fish in front of his nose before eating it. I think it's cute how he's like OCD about keeping the fish straight before tossing it into his mouth.
I like how Astrid and Fishlegs were kinder to Hiccup. I had the idea in my head that Hiccup and Fishlegs could be friends simply because they were partners during Zippleback training, and then I read the book and it turned out they were!
I find it funny how Stoick and Hiccup are almost always sharing the screen when they talk to each other. In my classes (especially editing) we're learning about how to express character relations on screen and how to use "dirty singles" (one character is technically on screen by themselves except you can still see a bit of the other person, like their shoulder or something). I think it's very interesting to have these characters that don't see eye-to-eye be united visually, until something pushes them apart- In the scene where Hiccup is told he can start training, it cuts to a single shot of him when he says, "No, I'm very extra sure that I won't [kill dragons]" and shows him in that similar type of shot for the rest of the scene because his dad isn't really listening to him; And the other time is after everyone finds out about Toothless, Hiccup is only in a single shot when he begs for them not to kill Toothless and when he's trying to tell his dad that he doesn't know what he's up against.
Yeah, the movie makes the film geek in me happy. They do the "sharing the screen" again when Astrid talks to Hiccup on the cliff, but I think I've rambled on long enough.

*just read through this entire thread* I can't believe no one has noticed this before. In the beginning, when Hiccup is traveling through the forest to go find Toothless where he shot him down, he comes to the broken tree where he smacks a branch out of the way and then it comes back to smack him. Well, then the camera pans up to give us a shot of the broken tree, the large ditch, and then turns back to give us a large shot of the tree, Hiccup, and the forest. Well, if you look at it... the branch that Hiccup smacked out of his way... has completely disappeared. Like, it's seriously just gone.
EDIT: *got off the computer just to realize this and get back on to add it in* ALSO, did anyone notice that Toothless lost his left tail fin, and Hiccup lost his left foot? I find that pretty cool, actually, how the movie did that.

I don't know if this counts, but my dad noticed this when we went to see the movie... Snotlout looks like Jack Black.
There, I said it.

Glad to see I noticed a lot of these seven pages' content on my first sight, was so happy to chase every detail of this wonder then. <3 ;D Still I have, to my greater embarrassment, to confess I did't understand until my fourth time ( ) that, when the rope broke during their "flight learning", Hiccup was stuck because of the damaged saddle, and therefore needed a tool from the village (kept wondering why he took the risk of bringing Toothless there...). Stubborn incomprehension is stubborn.

Yes... In fact, I was confused about it as well. Couldn't he just cut it with his knife? In all of my... many views, I never really bothered to pay attention to this anymore though. Maybe because I, in all my stubbornness, refused to admit this wonderful movie might have plot holes or mistakes. ^^;

I actually don't think he brought anymore knives after the first time Toothless made it clear how he felt toward them. Anyways, it might have mistakes (I could easily point out some), it won't change how hard it sure did touch my heart. <3

Yes, as much as I hated myself for it, I spotted a few as well (quite a few actually). The drawing Hiccup made of Toothless, for example. His left tailwing magically reappeared on the drawing in the scene were he reads the 'Dragon Manual'. Quite a few people told me it got fixed, but I've seen it in all of my viewings. :/

Every movie/TV show/video game/etc. has mistakes. Nothing's perfect, lol. And it's part of the fun to go through and find those mistakes, in my opinion. XD
