To comment on an earlier point that Hiccup using the right stirrup was an animation error, or that both stirrups control the false fin, i have an alternate theory. Since some of their flying manneuvars probably depend on them being perfectly in sync with each other, and since Toothless can't feel what the fake fin is doing, I think that the right stirrup may be used to signal Toothless in some way, maybe there's something that nudges him in the side based on what position the stirrup is in and that combined with however Hiccup is positioning himself on the saddle tells him what he needs to be doing at that moment. While that's a very good theory, I have two problems with that. Firstly, I remember a shot or two of him using his right foot distinctly to change the tail fin (you could tell from the toe of his boot). Secondly, it wouldn't really be necessary to signal Toothless as his body would flow naturally with the smallest adjustments in wind flow. Remember when Hiccup was clinging to his tail for dear life, turned the fin, and Toothless' body moved on its own to follow it?

Remember when Hiccup was clinging to his tail for dear life, turned the fin, and Toothless' body moved on its own to follow it? That's true, ...to an extent. Some manuevers would come naturally, but not necisarily all of them. For example, (i don't know what positions do what so I'm just gonna pick something random for example's sake) Let's say they are flying, If Hiccup closes the fake fin halfway but Toothless keeps his real one open they could bank left, but if Toothless closes his as well they could go into a controlled dive. If Hiccup doesn't signal which he wants, and both maneuvars are equally possible (meaning there's not an obvious reason to go in a certain direction, like trying to escape something) that leaves Toothless having to guess whether Hiccup meant for him to go left or dive. It makes their flying more of a collaboration rather than Hiccup calling all the shots and forcing him along, which wouldn't work anyway since Toothless took off to the nest even as Hiccup tried to stop him (as well as his terrorizing Astrid) so clearly Toothless does have a lot of control over what moves he makes.

The metal brace around the pillar that Hiccup hides behind disappears (I doubt the entire thing melted). Also note Terrible Terrors do have teeth, just really tiny.

Good points, venus. Though while he may use his right foot to signal Toothless in some way, I still think it plays an important part in the whole machine of the tail fin. That is, in addition to signaling. foreverabcdd: Are you sure it disappears? I thought that part of it melted so it slid off the pillar...

EDIT: I also just noticed another thing with Astrid. When she gets mad at Hiccup once again beating her in training she starts yelling random phrases and one of them sounds like, "F*** it!" It's very surreal to hear. I noticed that too! during the movie i leaned over to my friend and said ASTRID JUST DROPPED THE F BOMB She didnt notice though..... she just thought i was crazy

Gosh Darn It To Heck, indeed!
Noticed a few more things, during 3D viewing... * When Hiccup thinks Stoick knows about Toothless, he turns back to the desk to move the papers around (right after the "I wanted to tell you" bit). Earlier he'd been trying to hide them, but now he pushes the papers a little bit TOWARDS Stoick, then hides them again when he finds out what he really means. Maybe he was about to use the pictures to help his explanation? * EVERYONE is freckled. And several characters have one freckle that's biggre/darker than the rest somewhere on their body. Fishlegs seems to have one on his arm, Snotlout's is on his chest, and my eyes may have been tricking me, but it kinda looks like Gobber has one in his ear at some points. Speaking of markings and Fishlegs, his arms have this darker patches on them...either they're old/faint scars or burns, or he doesn't wash them very well. * Fishlegs again. Out of all the other students in Dragon Training, he is the only one who isn't even slightly mean to Hiccup. He doesn't seem to say anything when everyone else is all "Who let you in here?" In the beginning of the movie, he looks like he's laughing because he found the situation funny, not out of malice. And when Hiccup stands in line, he even moves aside a bit to give him room. Whaddaya know, Fishlegs ain't a bad guy at ALL. XD * One more. I might be looking too much into this, but...After the "You're not my son" bit, after hearing he apparently isn't even a Viking, when we cut away from Hiccup, we do so right as half his face is in shadow, half in light. I wonder if that's symbolic in any way...?

Uf, sorry, two more I forgot to put up...
Remember how earlier on this thread I thought I saw some eggs? Well...if they re indeed eggs, each dragon breed has a different egg-appearance. I still saw some faint green, pill-shaped things (but I don't know who they would belong to), and nearby a group of Gronkles, there are some faint brown spheres with little nubs/spikes on them.
Also, when Astrid first confronts Hiccup in the canyon-place, we hear Toothless growl a few times. But I noticed that each time he growled, it was after Astrid manhandled Hiccup in some way. Apparently Toothless is watching the whole thing.

Another thing with the twins...because I guess I just like them that much to watch every action they make. When they're fighting the Nadder and the two wind up in its blind spot and begin arguing, the Nadder fires at them and they run. If you watch really closely, you can see Ruffnut grab Tuffnut's arm and drag him out of the way of the blast.

Mothy, you put up a lot of stuff I just noticed myself! XD You saved me the time of putting them up.
Yes, the eggs are all different, if the "Raise Your Dragon" widget is anything to go by.
Aw! Ruff DOES care about her brother! XD

Regarding whether Hiccup uses both feet to control Toothless' tail fin, I'd point you to this by the concept artist who designed it. He points out in one of the replies that "Hiccups's right foot controls the opening of fins (pulls first leading bar..rest follows via/leather webbing) Closing is passive/automatic as toothless would be flying+tension of leather. Hiccup's left foot controls rotating bar that the spines are attached too." He goes on to say that it wouldn't actually work, but I assume he means his particular implementation - I see no reason why the mechanism couldn't be made to work.

That is so awesome. I love when the art crew posts their stuff on DA. Though now that he's gone and posted it he's revealed an actual animation error. At the end when Hiccup tests his new prosthetic foot in the stirrup it opens and closes the fin instead of rotating the bar. Oops.
Unrelated side note, Mithent, where is your avatar from? It looks like Toothless lying down with a fire or a lamp behind him and I just don't recognize it.
