Yeah, but we don't know how the premier is gonna go. We might just get episode one. Or we get get a replay of episodes one and two, or we might get episodes 1-3 (which is what I'm hoping for). Cause it's at 7:30pm and Cartoon Network ends and turns into Adult Swim at nine, which leaves just enough time to air an episode at 7:30, 8:00, and 8:30! But we'll see. We might have to wait quite a while for episode three....who knows?

Wait why are they bothering showing the first two episodes? I sure this episode would be the series premier

No, the episodes that were shown were a "preview". They're gonna replay the first two episodes as he real preview for those people who simply didn't catch the preview...though I don't know how'd they miss it since they've aired it almost every day this week.

Plus the first episode kept talking about "the freeze" coming. Plus, I just noticed this but I like how they tied that in with the movie. Stoick was talking about winter coming and that he had an entire village to feed in the movie--and then in the first episode they were still storing food. I love the continuity!!!!! It shows that they're really using their source material to make everything seamless. Except GOTNF seems to already have happened. Hiccup has a GOTNF-esque tail stabilizer on Toothless for the series (they actually make a point of closing up on it over and over- look closely and you'll see the little bar on the underside of the dragon's existing fin), and Fishlegs is aware of his dragon's gender. Sooooo.... WTF. CLEARLY ALL THE BABIES (including human babies, apparently) HAVE BEEN EATEN. Or grew up really really fast. Haha, yeah, I love that this scene, since all we have to go off is how they were reacting towards each other during Snoggletog--which I have a feeling was a little more overly affectionate because....tis the season! But they're Vikings. And it's nice to know (though we all pretty much figured this out after the end of the first movie) that every time Astrid punches him in the shoulder she might as well just hug the boy. Though I enjoy both aspects of their friendship/relationship. The affectionate part and the part where Astrid acts like a nagging wife and calls Hiccup out on all of his "let's break the rules" crap. Also...does this episode mark the first of winter in the show? Or is it just snowy because they're on the mountain (which seems to always be dusted over in snow even when it's warm)? Yeah, I honestly think that we haven't had an accurate picture of Astrid's true nature until the series. In the movie and in GOTNF, she was emotionally vulnerable and thus acting differently; in the movie, because she was being unseated by Hiccup and thus was becoming hostile and overcompetitive and in GOTNF, she was overcompensating, trying to "bury the sadness" in fakey smiles. Which don't get me wrong, are really interesting emotional studies of her, but also very EXTREME. It's nice to see what she's like when her world ISN'T being shaken at the foundations for once. And yep, I bet affectionate violence isn't even Astrid-specific. I bet it's pretty much standard as Vikings go. XD But the way she foils with Hiccup is pretty pleasant (clearly, from this clip, he's got a bit of it in him, too. XD) "Love is kind of a brawl of its own."

I don't know....I'm starting to think that GotNF, while technically in the franchise is more or less not canon. Since it's clear that episode one took place shortly after the movie and gift didn't. In their defense they couldn't have Fishleg's calling Meatlug a he...and then a she randomly after gift is supposed to be there. So...idk. We'll see if they chose to air it on CN around Christmas time.
And as for affectionately violent Hiccstrid. Not only am I excited to see Astrid be more open around Hiccup...I'm also excited to see Hiccup reacting to actually having a girlfriend to be responsible for please emotionally. I mean Hiccup's kind of a free spirit, he's not used to having people there for him to help him or talk to...and Astrid of all people. I mean, there are little smiles he gives her that just shows how thankful he is to just have a good human friend to pal around with. That just kind of shows how not used to that kind of company he is. But he'll warm up to it eventually....it'll just be interesting to see how it gets there.
As for Astrid, honestly I don't think she seems to be having too much of a problem with being in any kind of relationship with him. She goes over to his house on her own, seems genuinely worried whenever he's in the slightest of trouble, and cares about how he feels. Sounds good to me. Oddly enough her biggest problem might be that she gets too attached to him.

Oddly enough her biggest problem might be that she gets too attached to him. Well, and given, massive continuity errors are TOTALLY precedented by Cressida Cowell. XD In so many ways I can't even begin to describe them all. XD (Since I seem to claim everything as precedented by Cressida Cowell, I have taken the liberty of adding it to my signature XD) It would indeed make the most sense if GOTNF weren't canonical... or was just "selectively" canonical. Since parts of it seem to have happened. XD I mean, given Hiccup's claims about their weather, I'm totally willing to believe that they go through several "freezes" per year. And Snoggletog technically doesn't need to coincide with Christmas or even the solstice (though if not then, it makes most sense as a very early spring thing (because why the heck would dragons have babies in early winter? UNLESS, Hiccup really did mess up their migration, and they actually would've stayed on that island until they had built up resistance to harsh winters)... which effs with its place in canon even more). It's probably not worth thinking all too hard about though. XD I can't speak much about Hiccrid. I guess you could certainly say I like the pairing, but I'm too nontraditional in my thoughts about it, so I think I'll shoot myself in the foot if I attempt to put it in words. XD I'm uncool in fandoms because I don't play the ship game good

I just...ugh. I wish they'd just have it work out in a good paced with gift. I really don't think RoB happened after Gift just because it just wouldn't work to have the dragons be all docile and "part of the family" in Gift and then...whoops, Dragons are a nuisance! But then how the heck does Toothless have that tail and how does Fishlegs already know Meatlug is a girl!!! They probably should've thought that through more. That being said. I thought it was extremely cute at the end of episode one when Fishlegs called Meatlug "Daddy's little girl". It was cute...and slightly disturbing. And I actually love Hiccstrid. Which is odd cause I didn't go into this fandom expecting to be all that big in shipping just because I didn't expect there to be romance in the franchise at all in the first place. But...ehz, I guess they grew on me. Plus I like their dynamic. But I'm just an over analyzing kind of person...so just don't mind me as I make my Hiccstrid rants every now and then

Hmmm, we'll then I wonder if airing Gift of the Night Fury on tv would be to CN's advantage or disadvantage. Since it's so...messed up with even the beginning of the series. I mean obviously only hardcore fans who scrutinize Toothless's tail will catch that it's the same as in Gift, but I think everyone who saw Gift will wonder why the baby dragons aren't there and why Fishlegs already knows that Meatlug is a girl.

So they're essentially, functionally, the Dreamworks' versions of "Day of the Dreader" and "How to Train Your Viking", side stories not essential to the main plot.
I guess if GOTNF had never existed, Meatlug's gender and the tail stabilizer actually pretty seamlessly fit into canon, so I guess it does make sense for GOTNF to be noncanoncial.
And given that a much smaller population will have seen the shorts than the TV show and especially the movie, I guess that really makes sense. Can't expect random people who hopped in on the show to be familiar with GOTNF, which to NON VIKINGS would be relatively obscure.
I DIDN'T KNOW YOU LIKED HICCSTRID!! It's not like you were in my stream or anything. XDXDXDXD
To be honest all the fangirl horniness in that stream frightened me immensely
I like their dynamic tons too. They're definitely something new.

This really is confusing...Maybe the story writers are just completely ignoring GOTNF...In it, they behave totally opposite of how they do in the show. So in order to be able to make the series, perhaps they had no choice but to ignore the events from Gift in some way...I really loved the whole plot of Gift. Kinda sucks that maybe they're ignoring it and that maybe it's events never happened . But oh well...

Like I said though, it's probably silly to expect them to assume that lay-people have seen GOTNF, since it's not nearly as mainstream as the movie or the TV show.

Yeah that's true...That's kind of explainable. Though they maybe could have worked around with something in which GOTNF did happen, but in a way that Wouldn't require people to watch in order to understand what's going on in the series. There could've been some way perhaps...If only they hadn't wasted their time making logos (lol).
