Speculation and discussion to the upcoming third episode of "Dragons: Riders of Berk".
No episode title yet but we know it'll feature Hiccup and Astrid getting trapped in an avalanche.
Here's a clip:
SPECULATE! (you've got until September, so you might as well).

i cant speculate, but i feel that they may be trapped in that deep ravine for a while D: the dragons have a shot limit so hiccup and astrid would have to ration the heat. maybe cause they are trapped in the ravine, it may be possible they may "finalize" their love to each other; least until the predicted "Heather" episode.

I know at comic con people said some of the footage show was of after Hiccup and Astrid were trapped and Stormfly and Toothless were trying to melt the snow with their fire. That's all I've heard. But the trench they got buried in is pretty deep, so I don't know if melting the snow away is a good idea...it would just result in another cave in.
And I'm all for this being a "let's discuss our feelings" episode for Hiccup and Astrid. I was fine with their relationship being ambiguous in the first two episode, but there's only so many episodes they can skate passed that without it just becoming unrealistic.
And, oh the Heather episode....need I go there...?

plus, the fire could burn up their oxygen supply, let alone flooding them themselves from melting the snow. before they fell in, was astrid trying to airlift hiicup and toothless with her bare hands or was she trying to take hiccup only? it really looks like astrid wanted hiccup to ditch poor toothless. but i wonder, how did you guys discover that the girl's name was heather?

Yeah, there were a lot of un-discussed things about that clip. First of all it was technically Astrid and Stormfly's fault the avalanche happened in the first place because they shot a huge fireball at that pile of snow (huge booms = avalanche). And, although it's pretty sad, she couldn't have pick up Toothless, so she was probably just going on instinct and grabbed for Hiccup. Sad but honestly, what was she supposed to do?
And we found out Heather's name from the original storyboard, it immediately named the girl "Heather", and then the interview that I did with Dan Kubat (the guy who drew the storyboard) confirmed her role in the show as the homewrecker love antagonist.

Someone pointed out that it was mentioned at comic con that the avalanche episode and the episode where Toothless gets a new power isn't the same episode. But, I thought that at first too. I'll have to re-watch the panel video cause I'm not sure.

What really gets me about this clip is that they really are being playful and affectionate, but they do it by ALMOST MURDERING EACH OTHER.
ASTRID: I'm going to shoot a ton of poisonous spines at you and hope you dodge!
HICCUP: I'm going to let you get smacked in the face with a branch at top speed and hope your eyes don't get gouged out!
ASTRID: I'm going to set off an explosion that could potentially send you careening off course into a tree and crush your dragon!
HICCUP: What a sweet girl!
Given and understood that this is completely par for the course for Vikings. XD The first book had Hiccup's mom punch him in the shoulder ("the equivalent of a big hug", according to Cowell), and it all just trickled down from there.

Haha, yeah, I love that this scene, since all we have to go off is how they were reacting towards each other during Snoggletog--which I have a feeling was a little more overly affectionate because....tis the season! But they're Vikings. And it's nice to know (though we all pretty much figured this out after the end of the first movie) that every time Astrid punches him in the shoulder she might as well just hug the boy. Though I enjoy both aspects of their friendship/relationship. The affectionate part and the part where Astrid acts like a nagging wife and calls Hiccup out on all of his "let's break the rules!" crap. Also...does this episode mark the first of winter in the show? Or is it just snowy because they're on the mountain (which seems to always be dusted over in snow even when it's warm)?

Plus the first episode kept talking about "the freeze" coming. Plus, I just noticed this but I like how they tied that in with the movie. Stoick was talking about winter coming and that he had an entire village to feed in the movie--and then in the first episode they were still storing food.
I love the continuity!!!!! It shows that they're really using their source material to make everything seamless.
