I think vikings were in the same period as the Romans (or at least close to)
How about for a antagonist, maybe another viking tribe (maybe an evil one ;D)

There are other Viking tribes in the books, though I'm not sure if any of them are evil or not. I'm not sure how much the TV show people will steal from the books, but either way it's definitely a possibility. The books also had the Romans in them, and at one point they even try to steal Berk's dragons. ;D

IcelandicEel: On Wildbrain's website at lot of the job descriptions for the HTTYD series were overseas (I think it was India). Unbeknownst, India is actually becoming a strong frontrunner in computer animation (mostly for American animation). If they're sending some stuff over to be animated in India this might heighten the chances for the animation quality being up to standards. People at Dreamworks + People abroad in India = a lot more people to work on the quality in less time. Plus I'm not sure if this is correct but having some of the animation in India might be cheaper, therefore they'll have more money to pay the voice actors to stay and why they're able to make so many episodes. Cause now that I think about it 26 CGI episodes is a lot of work....

That would make sense. I think they do that with MLP too (it's the same company, kind of). It is a lot of work! The 26 episodes of the series will have about as many minutes of animation as 5.8 How to Train Your Dragons. The world and characters will already be available to them, but even then.... And hopefully after all that they'll still be able to pay the actors.

Le plot suggestion: Alduin (Dragon god of destruction) returns to Berk and he trashes the whole place..... Only Hiccup and Toothless survives..... then Hiccup & Toothless starts to track down Alduin and in their neverending quest they come across Twilight Sparkle and other ponies. Twi then teaches Hiccup how use magic and his inner voice; Thu'um (Since he posses a dragon soul but he is mortal).
Equestria is in civil war and Hiccup must decide will he help Solar empire's leader "Celestia the Molester", who rules with iron hoof or New Lunar republic's commander "Luna". who wishes to claim her rightful throne.
As it later turns out Celestia is in alliance with Alduin and Hiccup must then help Luna to win the Equestria back to her. And in final battle in the highest tower of Canterlot, Hiccup slayes Celestia and Alduin with the help of Toothless and Luna.
Now that he is avenged his tribe Hiccup continues to wander the world.... Never to stay in one place too long.

IcelandicEel: What I'm thinking is that the initial animation of the characters/dragons will be done at the Glendale studio here in the U.S, and then the coloring/textures/lighting will be done in the abroad studio in India. I think this was the collaboration used in the "Book of Dragons" short for the little bit of CGI in it. It still had the rich shadows and textures we're all used to in the HTTYD world, but I did notice the colors were a TAD different, though I might just be over looking stuff. I did notice that Toothless's color scheme was a little darker in that short, but that might've just been because the dining hall is a very shadowy place. That and in the credits to "Book of Dragons" I noticed the coloring was done by "Technicolor India". Either way, it seems like a pretty efficient system to get more quality work done in less time.

Why not?? a little bit of Skyrim and a little bit of MLP in HTTYD story. and how could the "Gang" or rest of the tribe survive the attack of Alduin?? And besides..... others would be in Hiccup's way.......

Varðr: Wow, that's depressing. Even WITH the ponies. blackrose108: Yay, outsourcing! Though I always thought the coloring/lighting/texturing was the easiest part. You just sort of do it and it works. It's the frame-by-frame animation that seems the most difficult to me. Then the animators at Dreamworks would just have to do the key frames, and the company in India does the rest. I wonder if, at this stage, doing the HTTYD show in 2D would be cheaper and easier than doing it in 3D. It might not be.
