Well, you birthday has a potential to be quite interesting, depending if you want to believe the Mayans or not. They were the first people to use the number zero, after all. ;D
I'm skeptical too. It looks a lot like they are the page creator's ideas for the show, and not the official ones. But "Hatch and Scratch" is (are?) a good name, so I'm kind of hoping...

That is an interesting wiki...but I'm also skeptical about it... I really don't think 2012 is then end. Why? Well, if the Mayans can predict our end, why didn't they predict theirs? (lol) oh, and HAPPY (early) BIRTHDAY

Well I hope that's not the case. That would SUCK. Its like (for example): Episode one, Toothless dies, next episode he never did --_-.

Yeah, if they had some huge story with "to be continued" after each episode, That would be perfect. What format does the Kung Fu Panda series follow? (1 big story or many different stories?) If the HTTYD series followed this format it would be another cartoon and not a series (I looked up the meaning of series and it said a series was "a TV show that relies on a continuing plot that unfolds in a sequential episode by episode fashion"). (Wikipedia is very helpful lol )

Hey guys, this thread has been a little dead, but that's to be expected since the tv show is pretty far away. But, I come with news! According to this article I just found (which was posted back in Januaray, so idk how I missed it) the HTTYD tv series will be about Hiccup's unlikely friendships with dragons and HUNTERS. Hmm, idk if "hunters" means dragon hunters or hunters in general. This is a pretty vague descrpition, obviously the show will be about more than that, but it gives us a small window into some new plotlines in the show. Also, it's confirmed here that there are 26 episodes planned for season one. That's A LOT of episodes for just one season (just as much as a normal season in an anime), and since we all keep hearing how "in spirit of the movie" the tv show will be, I'm excited that we'll get to see a lot of good episodes. Here's the article: toonbarn.com/how-to-train-your-dragon/cartoon-network-knows-how-to-train-your-dragon/Excitement? I think so ;D

Hiccup making friends with dragon hunters? Now I knew Hiccup was friendly, but not that friendly! I did hear that there would be some human antagonists, but I didn't know it would be such a big part of the show as this. (I wonder if they're Romans...) And I hope what they say about there being 26 seasons is right, because if that's so, we've got a lot of HTTYD coming our way! Not to mention the entire second season, which seems to be more or less confirmed. ;D

Well, idk if it's so much him making friends with them, probably more along the lines of being at odds with them. Belittling plotlines usually happens in short descriptions like the one we just got, it was probably easier for them to put "making unlikely friends with dragons and hunters" for the description to not sound overbearing, or give away too much. Plus, it's Dreamworks, they belittled HTTYD so much in both the descriptions and the trailers. And hmmm, Romans? I wouldn't mind Romans coming into the plotline. But, I'd be happier if they were introduced in the movies. They seem more like the epic movie type of conflict. I'd much rather have pirates be the main antagonists in the tv show (can you say one hour special with tons of swordfights? ;D ), maybe sister tribes having similar problems? Or a crazy wandering guy who lives in the forest trying to catch a Night Fury and (after meeting Hiccup) tries to kill Toothless....OR......meh, okay, I'm just gonna stop there before I rant for an hour. But, 26 episodes sounds AWESOME!!! I was expecting 10-15 episodes at most, but 26!!! Such great news. Either they're really confident to have that many episodes or they just have tons of great ideas, because most tv shows in general are only ordered for 13 or 20 episodes for a first season at most.

I guess that's true about Dreamworks. And I wouldn't call Hiccup's relationship with dragons "unlikely" either. In fact, only if he didn't get along with dragons would I call it unlikely. Actually, I just looked at that website you posted to see what else they have and I found this: toonbarn.com/shrek/dreamworks-takes-how-to-train-your-dragon-to-broadway/. Dreamworks is really trying to get dragons everywhere, isn't it? I don't know about this. It would be interesting to see it onstage, but I'd prefer it if they just focused on making good sequels and a good TV show. Perhaps pirates, then. I have a feeling there's too much time period mixing, adding Romans to Vikings, then pirates to Vikings. But I guess How to Train Your Dragon was never really meant to be historically accurate. I heard it's going to be a weekly show, like KFP, so 26 episodes will last us roughly six months! That is a LOT of dragons!

Yeah, I saw that article too. I was wondering if they might've just mixed that up with the arena show coming next year? Because there's been no press release about a broadway show whatsoever. I hope that's the case, because I can't see HTTYD as a play at all...hopefully it won't be a musical, they only way I'll watch a musical version of it is if they start singin "A whole new world" during the romantic flight scene ;D
And I'm pretty sure Romans and Vikings were during the same time period at some point, and different kinds of pirates have existed since humans figured out boats could float, so I think it's fine there too. But, you're right, HTTYD does take place in a "mythical viking world", so maybe it'll just be a completely new world altogether? Either way, I'll be happy to see other things than Berk.

That's definitely a possibility. And I've never heard of a show either. You know, I actually can kind of see it working as a musical, assuming that they get good writers and directors. It wouldn't be awful. The biggest challenge would be having the dragons onstage. ...Not to mention the dragons that are already in the story. If they can bring dragons into the Viking times, they can bring anything into the Viking times. And I'd like to see some new characters too, perhaps even more than I'd like to see new dragons.

My guess is they were referring to the Arena show but the info given to whoever wrote that article at the time was sketchy so they jumped to conclusions. I am surprised we all missed that article regarding episode count and plot description (not much, I know). Very interesting though! Still waiting on info regarding voice cast and air date!

From what I've heard, it's going to air summer/fall 2012. I don't know about the cast list though, other than what Wikipedia said about Jay Baruchel. I'm still hoping it's everybody!

Yeah, there's sites that said second half 2012.
I'm not sure if hoping for an original cast is delusional or not. If the production of the TV series happens under the same roof as the movie, the convenience of having the original cast work on both simultaneously would make a lot of sense from a time and budget perspective.

Where does Dreamworks even do all the recording? In the same place they do the animation? It could be possible that both of them are being produced in Los Angeles, which might make the entire process easier.

Yeah, I assume they do all the recording and animation work on the DreamWorks campus. When they need to work on foley or the final sound mix, they go to a place like Skywalker Sound.
I do wonder how much resource overlap occurs between the TV production and the movie production. It would really help out with the limited budget and man power if the movie crew was all like "Hey, we just finished making this new structure model and background character model for the movie that you're more than welcome to use for the show."
