I was watching the new clips and trailers for Gift of the Night Fury and I noticed something. This. ... This is not viking tech. This is not viking tech AT ALL. So, I was wondering... could Dreamworks be making HTTYD a Clockpunk universe? The tech and the way things were always were a tad skewed from reality, but this is so off that I think they might be taking this is a completely different way than I had expected. ... and I think I like it!

Lol well just like there aren't dragons in the real world, XD. It IS another world after all XD. I can't really see how that thing works at all though XD. Though I don't really like it cuz it might mean the separation of my two most favorite characters of all time .

True, it's most definitely fantasy at it's core.
But it's hard to deny that the tech is schewed. Clockpunk is a lot like Steampunk... only no steam. It's all clock gears, which is what we are being shown in the short's preview clips first hand. I can't think of any other way to describe it, but given the other Punkpunk genres... this is the only one I can see fitting and it's pretty cool that they might be working it in!
And I doubt they'll be separated. THERE BE A SEQUEL AND SHOW IN THE MAKING. 83

Lol well I hope not . As I said in the other topic, I really didn't like the part where Toothless just randomly to Hiccup and Astrid to the queen all stupidly . I hope Dreamworks doesn't do that again. Though I probably won't even like HTTYD by 2014 .

Well, I's said my piece on that in another thread. XD I personally think that the queen had them all conditioned to come on command, more like how someone can fall into routine or train a dog with whistles. He's smart, but still runs on animal instinct, he's not human.
But back to topic, anyone else?

Lol well yeah . Though idk why whenever I think that Toothless has instics (animal instincs, not like reactions XD), I think it's stupid . I'm weird... Anyway, well idk that design looks cool but I really can't see how it would work XD.

Do you mean like in universe? Or actually working? Because the later I might be able to explain, the former I would really have to think about to develop some theories. XD

OH! Well, that's easy!
I think it would be something automatic, or something that reacts to things like how he moves certain parts of his body. Or, it could start working depending on if he is flying, like it would react to the feeling of him actually flying.
There's a multitude of ways that it could work, but it would take seeing the short and what they lay out for us to get a more concrete theory down.

Oh, I don't know about it not being at all viking-y. I mean in the books they come up with crazy stuff like that (one of the tribes of vikings made a steam-powered boat and a machine that makes a noise so high-pitched that it actually keeps sea-monsters away from ships, and a flying machine, AND a key that unlocks all their locks they've like, ever made) so its not impossible. I mean, if there's stuff like that in the books then why not in the movie/tv series too?

Wow, that's pretty cool. I've never read the books, but knowing that there's all those contraptions in it makes me excited! I love steampunk/clockpunk stuff.
But, I remember on the commentary for the movie Dean and Chris said that they wanted a slight Miyazaki feel to Toothless's tail and Hiccup's inventions, and we all know how steampunk-ish Miyazaki is.

Yes, these sorts of things were in the books. I THINK. I haven't read them in quite some time. Since it's viking in base setting, it definitely does not fit at all. BUT since schizotech was in the BOOKS, that makes it a bit more plausible. Real vikings were a heck of a lot more basic. But I LOVE this sort of tech addition, and it makes it all that much cooler to me.
AND WHAT? WHAT WHAT WHAT THEY SAID THAT? Dood, that makes this find even BETTER to me, I love Miyazaki! I haven't listened to that in so long, I must have forgotten!

Interesting pic you got there..... I didn't know that Hiccup is ahead of his time in terms of technology... Clockpunk and steampunk is awesome as long as they don't over do it.... if you know what I mean.

Lol well I've got the easiest answer. HTTYD is mostly meant for kids. So most people won't even relize that that isn't Vikingish at all XD.
