Talk about Hiccup's mom, whether book or movie related (If movie related, you can ask about how she died and so forth).

I've always wondered what happened to her in the movie. I've read fanfics where she's died in a dragon attack, a disease, and childbirth. Myself, I'm going with the disease theory. I think it'd be terrible if she was killed by a dragon! Stoick would never have let the dragons stay in Berk! Anyway, here's a colored pic of her I did: RogueKitty.deviantart.com/art/Haddock-family-165276646

But thats why I like the "Death by Dragon" theory; it would've explained as to why Stoic was reluctant to listen to Hiccup when he asks for him to let Toothless free because he would've still have been suffering from grief of losing his wife to a dragon. Then when Toothless saves Hiccup from dying, thats when he would've been able to forgive both Toothless and his son.

Yeah, I'm gonna go by the death-by-dragon-attack, too. I mean, it does feel right, what with Stoick's attitude on dragons and all, and, and this is just my personal preference here, it's cooler than simply getting sick.
And I do wonder...would they have been allowed to keep her breastplate if she'd been sick? I mean, if it's a sickness that can kill, and she'd been wearing that thing a lot...

I'm gonna guess she might've either been a really big woman or had really bog boobs judging by the size of her breastplates.

You know, the fact she just... VANISHED for a few books and then they mentioned where she was always... bugged me. It's like Cowell kinda forgot her.

I hate it when writers do that...if a character is never mentioned, then we assume they aren't there, either because they're somewhere else or dead. If a character turns out to be in a another place, somewhere faraway, the writer should drop some hints or talk about them more, don't you think?
I don't think she'll turn up to be somewhere else in the sequel, though, thankfully...It'd feel pretty dang weird if she was.

*weakly raises hand* I think I initially penned the dying during childbirth theory, at least through fan fiction. And I haven't read any fan fiction so far that uses it as a way to explain her death. I don't know why, but I really see it working - I mean, when Stoick mentions how the 'breast-hat' belonged to Hiccup's own mother, he (Hiccup) didn't seem to get sentimental or anything at the mention of his late mother, so we can assume that he never had any kind of relationship with her. Yeeeeahhhhh.... that's kind of why I don't go with the sickness theory. Also, it's mentioned in How to Cheat a Dragon's Curse that they had no idea what to do with viruses or disease, since they had limited medical knowledge back then... so if it were some kind of sickness that could kill, it might have been at least somewhat contagious. The entire village should have been wiped out in that case, or at least most of it... and if Hiccup were still an infant when that took place, wouldn't that have made him even more susceptible to disease? He would have died along with his mother. Anyway, the childbirth death seems more emotionally-appealing, anyway - I mean, it'd be like the very last thing she ever did was give life and birth to Stoick's first child (a son, at that!), and then she was gone, never having met her baby boy and leaving her husband to raise the child alone. Then as his one and only child grows up - the only heir to the tribe - he finds that his boy is not really a Viking at all, and he'll never have any more Viking-like children to succeed him. I dunno. It's such a wide-open plothole-ish kind of thing (cuz I don't really think it is a plothole since it was pretty irrelevant to the films as a whole) that all you can do is speculate, and of course everyone's going to have their own opinions. :3 I do wonder what's up with her name, though. It's not very pretty at all and I really want to know what it means. I know what Valhalla is and stuff, cuz obviously her name is a nod to Norse mythology, but WHYYY? Valhalla + rama = ? That's why I stick with the name Eira for her, even though I know fully what her name is supposed to be. Eira means 'snow' and I gave it to her back when I started writing some fanfiction explaining her death and such... before I read the books and figured out what her real name was. Needless to say I was disappointed when I found out - I just don't think it's a nice name at all..... :/ (Fweeeee and I have arts of her -> ) red

So you're arguing that her name sounds stupid when a majority of the vikings in HTTYD have names like Hiccup, Snotlout, and Fishlegs? Heck, I'd be okay if there was a viking named Harley-Riding-Unicorn-Snarfer.

I still kinda find it silly for people to argue that Vallhalarama's name sounds stupid when a majority of the vikings in HTTYD have stupid sounding names. Its like argueing that Aang from Avatar: The Last Airbender has a name thats too Asian sounding when a majority of the characters names, culture, and even ethnicities are Asian (unless if you're watching the M. Night Shyamalan movie adaptation).

I used to go with a death-by-disease/childbirth theory from fanfiction, but I think here you hit the nail on the head. Certainly Stoick's attitude suggests that he had a deep hatred of dragons, more than most other vikings. The change in attitude seems to be more forgiveness: a 'you killed my wife, but you saved my son'.

ok i know just about every fact that there is to know about how to train your dragon this includes info on valhallarama the wife of stoick the vast and mother to hiccup hordenus haddok the lll. she was a a beautiful traditional Viking woman valhallarama died when hiccup was a little over six she had just started to fall with a sickness that caused her to weaken and hallucinate, when another dragon raid struck stoick being the chief of the tribe left to battle leaving hiccup with his mother. soon a dragon had them in a position together that could have killed them both, in a confused and angry state with efforts to save her son valhalarama threw herself at the dragon and at last she was carried away since then stoick has blamed the dragons for her death and gave part of that blame to his son once he found out his son sided with the dragons that had killed his mother
