It was quiet The forests of Berk be lit by the sun's light The only sounds being that of the wild animals, That including Berk's dragons
Wild dragons still exist out here either against the humans or waiting for one of their choosing Because sometimes, it is the dragon that must pick their rider. And the rider that must hope they have been chosen.
A small nadder quietly slept in her caverns, decorated with the lush moss that grew and the lining of branches and roots. Waer, the name of this wild dragon, had once again failed on another hunt, the third time this weak.
Despite the vikings now had her kind for pets, it ment an even harder challenge for her coop raiding.
1. There were now dragons gaurding the livestock 2. Most of these dragons are large species 3. Waer was smaller than the average Nadder
One thing though, her fame made her a competive pick for some of the human juveniles. Some of them wanted to choose her. But she didn't want to be chosen, no no.
She wanted to choose her own rider.

It had been without the expected enthusiasm that Aldis had accepted the dare. She was required to go out into the woods with a piece of meat, namely duck.
Clutching the duck meat in her hand, Aldis let her eyes scan the area. She saw no signs of dragons. No signs of anything, really. She sighed audibly, rolling her eyes at her idiocy at accepting the stupid dare in the first place.
She had always taken less interest in training a dragon for herself, and more-so preferred to watch from afar.
Aldis's breathing sounded loud against the silence around her, with only the occasional chirp of a bird. She contemplated going back to the village now, and telling those that had made the dare up that there was nothing to be found.
But she knew that they'd insist she go back, until she found something. Anything. well, Anydragon. She had no idea why the idea of riding a dragon deterred her so much, but for some reason, she could not picture herself with a dragon that was her own. Her friends had other ideas.
She winced as she heard her boot make a crunch sound against a stick underfoot.
So much for being stealthy.

Waer had agitance through her hunger. Her growling stomach and the repetition of vomiting liquid had kept her up all night. Now with the day in, it was even harder to rest with the sunlight beaming at her face. Finally, exhausted and stressed, the Nadder got up hungrily.
As she padded to the cave opening, a faint, yet new smell breached the top of her nostrils. Waer's eyes widened with interest, beginning to "look" into it by sniffing around, taking a wiff of the scent into her.
Her senses crazed the smell. Her tongue brushed the top of her mouth, conserving it in her mind. It was the smell of a fresh fowl; duck smoked with the wood of hickory and seasoned with spices. A true treat for a bird-eating dragon like her.
Saliva beginning to drip from the tips of her fangs, Waer stretched her wings like a proud swan and set off.

A shadow fell over her, and although rather small, Aldis knew instantly what it was - A dragon!
She caught a glimpse of thee stunning blue scales, the vibrant yellow under-belly, and the deadly spikes, and knew straight away that it was a nadder.
Adding this with the fact of its unusually small size, which both astounded and confused her, she figured this must be the dragon she was always hearing the other teens gossiping about - the nadder that had become famous for her chicken-snatching ways.
It swooped down gracefully, and she knew that, especially being a Nadder, it must be the meat that was attracting it. Her mind raced. Now she had to decide; Drop the meat and run, or keep a hold of it and see what happens.
Running was for cowards, and of all things, Aldis liked to think she was not a coward. So, she held her ground.
And waited.

Waer carefully decended, from time to time letting her feet clutch onto a few branches to gain balance as she took landing like a graceful parachute. Like the common antics of her species, the Nadder folded her wings in a mannerly way, keeping her sky blue scales and golden-yellow wings in a clean state. Her nostrils were her guides, her hunger lost like a young child, having the scent guide her.
Waer let out a slow, quiet bellow. Her claws stepped in the underbrush, the same way she would do in the clear nights of Berk to sneak a meal of poultry while the humans were distracted with fighting the dragons months ago.
Starvingly, her amber-yellow eyes focused on the tasty morsel of duck...and the human carrying it. It was a female, with olive skin, locks of caramel-brown and eyes blue like the sea. Waer stalked low. Right now, she had her intentions on the seasoned fowl the girl was holding...and whether or not she was a threat.

Fear welled up in the girls stomach as the dragon approached. Although small for its species, it was still big compared to her. Extending her arm further, she offered the meat to the dragon, and tried to seem reasonably relaxed so as not to seem threatening.
She was still getting over the fact that she'd actually encountered a dragon at all, but taking a breath she focused on the situation at hand. Hiding all fear in her eyes and making her expression neutral, Aldis inspected the dragon in front of her.
Each step the dragon took brought it closer. Any sudden move from either of them could mean doom. Most likely for her.
From the way it was acting - reckless, really, for a dragon - she could tell it was either starving, or just a rather outgoing and greedy dragon - although Aldis was leaning more towards the 'hungry' option.

The dragonness couldn't resist. Finally, she leaned her head torward the the girl, her jaws beginning to open as her large, yellow eyes focused on the duck. As she began to stick out her thick tongue to taste it, the tips of her fangs sunk into the skin of the fowl, before hastily stepping back, the entire duck snatched in her jaws.
Waer only stood there, gulping down the duck hungrily. But the remains of it, spices and the fading taste of the delicious smokey flesh was savored on her taste buds. Now with a meal in her stomach, her caution returned to her mind. She focused on the human girl. One duck and one lucky encounter would not be enough for this Deadly Nadder to trust a human.
The small dragon growled, unconfortable and a bit frightened. She had as much right to fear a viking as much as a viking would fear her. She was vunerable, weaker and easier to take down. But the girl would have come here for something, and it would be crazy if she wanted to be torched by one.
And yet, something made Waer remain in place....not from the duck offering....but something...else...which convinced her to just watch this human.

Aldis's eyes widened as the dragon took the meat. She watched her gulp it down in one bite, and what felt like a ripple ran through her - whether that was a ripple of fear, astonishment, or both, she was unsure.
Aldis thought she knew what the dragon would do next. Fly away. And when she did, Aldis knew she'd heave a sigh of relief.. but also, possibly, be disappointed slightly.
But... it didn't. The dragon stayed. And although she knew it was probably one of the worst things to do, Aldis looked up into its eyes... and saw.. fear?
Aldis inhaled sharply - yet, it was not sharply enough to be a gasp - as she realized that this dragon was possibly as scared as her.
"You were hungry, hm? I hear you're the one that was eating the chickens..." Aldis murmured in what she hoped to be a soothing voice, knowing full well that she should probably have left.
Aldis was sure the dragon couldn't understand her, but she kept talking anyway. She didn't move towards the dragon, but instead slowly bent down, than sat down on a rock, looking up towards the dragon.
What did dragons like? What did she do now?
"what kind of things do you dragons like?" She murmured aloud, looking up towards the dragon. Fear still remained in both of the pairs eyes, but Aldis tried to push hers aside.

Waer tilted her head, listening to the babbles of the human girl. Although she could bearly understand the human tongue, past witnesses of her robberies have spouted words, making her recognized their meanings. The dragon growled defensively, eyes widening and nostrils flaring repetively. She was ready to take flight. Waer was watching every movement of the human.
The small female nadder's growls grew calm like a baby settling from a fit. Smoke finally puffed out of her mouth, not in anger or warning, but a sign of calming. But Waer was beginning to question herself about why she had stayed a mere five minutes with the human girl. Finally, in a slight defense, she backed farther into the brush, her wings beginning to unfold.
With a quiet screech, the dragoness took off, grabbing support from the trees to assist in her flight as she escaped the green canopy of the forest, and into the blue sky.
She would return in the morning.

Aldis stumbled backwards as the dragon suddenly took a step back, hesitated, and then spread its blue wings, before springing into the sky and taking off with a small screech.
Aldis's breathing had become more rapid by this point, and she sprang up quickly, before freezing on the spot for no appearant reason.
Then she was off.
Running, back to the village, a half-smiling, half-wondrous look on her face. By the time she got back, the other teens were already occupied with something else, although the still questioned her when she got back.
She told them she'd seen nothing. They asked about the duck meat. She said she'd got hungry and ate it.
Then she ran home. She knew she would go back to the forest tomorrow. with meat. Early, before she had chores to do.
She wanted to see that dragon again.

The dragoness laid there, puzzled as she rested in the quietness of her lair, the only sounds being her constant rustles around her nest and the crackling of a small, glistening fire she had lit with the remains of meals.
Waer was questioning herself about what had happened earlier that day. Her smell lead her to food...but what if it was something more? Smoke puffed from the Nadder's mouth, disorganized into her thoughts.
She wanted to look into the strange occurance more. She couldn't believe what she had decided.
She wanted to see the girl again.

(Sorry i haven't replied sooner, I've been away at camp!) Sleep had not come easily as the girl had battled with herself, giving plentiful reasons why she should not go back and try to find that dragon, but somehow they one or two reasons she should outweighed those that said she should not.
So it was, boots on and warm fur-lined jacket pulled around her, Aldis got ready to go out into the chilly early morning air. It was still rather dark outside, although still light enough to see. Aldis's breath turned into a cloud of mist in front of her. She sighed as a cold shiver ran down her spine. Sneaking into the area she'd hidden the duck meat she snuck away yesterday when nobody was looking, Aldis grabbed it and set off.
Soon enough she was in the woods, and before she knew it, she was back near the area she'd first been in to see the dragon. She stayed hidden in the bushes for a while, twining her fingers in her hair, trying to gather all her courage up for another encounter.
The sky got slightly lighter - it was now light enough to see more than just the silhouette of someone or something, but still only a little. At this point, Aldis knew she was running out of time.
With a step forward, she was no longer obscured by the bushes.

Morning had come once more. The unforgiving light broadly came through the entrance of the Dragoness' lair, peeking into her eyes. Waer growled with agitance, lifting her head drowsily and stretching her wings.
Getting up, Waer would return to the one thing she would do the most; preening. But today, she was licking as hastily as she could. She didn't want to miss that girl.
Yesterday's encounter had still troubled her mind. The Nadder couldn't help but return to try and fine the juvenile who had given her that duck.
And so, Waer padded forward the entrance to the world outside her home. She flared her nostrils, letting scents brush into her as she tried to remember the smell of the girl.
There it was. Fresh...far, but fresh. Waer seemed satisfied to find that the human had returned into the forest, perhaps sharing these same thoughts. With a stretch of her wide, blue-yellow wings, the dragoness took off.

The girl waited. And waited. And begun to think how stupid she'd been. Why would a dragon come back, after all? It could catch its own food, couldn't it? Of course.
But this didn't explain the dragons actions of taking the meat from her. Nor did it explain the hunger-crazed look she'd seen in the dragons eyes. Then again, that could have been why it took the meat.
She remembered the size of the dragon. The fact that it was probably the one that had been stealing their chickens. Then, realization came over her. Maybe the dragon was hungry because its food had been taken away. Maybe it couldn't hunt bigger animals, after relying in the supply of chickens for so long.
Then she caught a glint of blue out of the corner of her eyes, and quickly looked in the direction of it, snapping out of her thoughts. Maybe she'd just imagined it.
Then again, maybe not.

There she was. Having waiting for the dragoness, as Waer assumed. With acknowledging the girl's presence, the Nadder began her descend, slowly gliding torward the tall green canopy. To assist her in landing, Waer grabbed onto a lower branch, letting it known she was in sight.
Waer then took off once more, gliding down continously until she managed to touch the ground. There was she, and there was the human. The nadder turned her head to get a clearer view of the girl, having her blind spot not doing much benefit to her. Did humans have blind spots like her own kind did? Probably not.
Vikings always had their eyes on the fronts of their faces, like most other dragon species. Finally, Waer stalked down, approaching the human girl just enough to be sighted..a little bit.
With a growl of her throat, she wanted to be noticed. I'm here, I'm waiting.
