Toothless is Toothless. Nobody, human or dragon, will ever come close to being as great of a guy as he is. Toothless is without a doubt my favorite character of not only HTTYD, but of all time. . I wish Night Furies were real, so I could befriend one as well.

I dunno what to say but toothless is just jaw-dropping awesome. He is so universally expressive with his movements, facial expressions, and sounds he produces. In one scene hes adorable as a puppy, and the other hes is fearsome and dominating. His "gummy" smile is probably the most newest and the most adorable expression ive ever seen. ;D
He is also the most unique of all dragons, with six wings out of the two dragons commonly have. The pair on his tail are the most intresting, they form (in flight) a V-shape, very similar to that of a real world plane the Beech V35 bonanza which has a v-tail as well. When toothless lost his left fin, he couldn't pull himself upward, but stalled and fell. Very simlar effect if plane lost its horizontal and vertical stabliser. ;D

Movie Version: Definitely my favorite of all characters in the franchise. Such a lovable dragon. Loyal, strong, and completely adorable. Look at that face, and tell me you don't want to give him a hug. I DARE YOU.
Book Version: He was alright. I found his dialogue pretty amusing, though his mischief never really was my forte, however, the Garden Dragon simply doesn't have the touch that the Night Fury does.

I also loved Toothless, since he is such a handsome dragon.....a Night Fury. With his unique fire power, I would say he was just helping his dragon brothers.

Does Toothless have a shot limit?
It's a given that most dragons can only breathe a limited amount of fire before they have to stop and recharge.
But so far, they've never established if Toothless has one.
As far as I know, it's never been shown that he has ever run out of fire.
I'm assuming for whatever reason, Toothless can recharge his fire more quickly then the other dragons, giving the impression that he has no shot limit.
Kind of like when he's firing his first shot, he's building up a reserve for his 7th and 8th shots.

I just noticed--All of the Dragons greatly resemble their riders in personality--Except for Toothless and Hiccup. I mean:
Stormfly and Astrid - Feminine Warriors, Kinda Vain, Short Tempered...
Hookfang and Snotlout - Overly Prideful, not the brightest among Dragons/People...
Twins and Barf/Beltch - Constantly Bickering... (Nothing more to these characters really :/)
Fishlegs and Meatlug - Large(Chubby?), Extremely Emotional, Not fighters
Toothless and Hiccup - Smartz
That's really it. I mean, Hiccup is rather shy and modest while Toothless is hilariously prideful, and the greatest warrior of his species while Hiccup is... Not.
Does anyone else notice this?

Although I haven't read the book series, another HTTYD fan told me that Hiccup is a formidable warrior, he just didn't discover it until he moved his sword to his left hand. I'm not sure if the tv series will ever address that fact though. I did start to wonder about the Limb Rule though. In at least 2 different Dragoncentric franchises, they refer to the difference between two-limbed and four-limbed dragons. In en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Drakan, they refer to Feral Dragons, who are clearly animals as opposed to the hero dragon Arokh. He has 4 limbs, they have two. In en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Soulfire, Grace refers to the two limbed dragons as animals, not having the intelligence or will of 4 limbed dragons. There's also a cute scene in one of the prequel series where she talks about the fact that many people assume Mooncrest is her pet dragon, but she actually says it is the other way around, she is his pet! So, I'm wondering if they might be referring to this a little with Toothless. Most of the other dragons have two limbs and the others that have 4 limbs don't seem as adept as using them as Toothless is. Although I can't recall the specific scenes, I'm sure there have been instances where Toothless has used his front limbs much like hands, to grip and hold objects like a person would. Also, he's the only dragon who has ever walked upright on two legs, freeing his front limbs for those tasks. Also, it is very clear that Toothless is the smartest dragon, he's quite different from all of them. I am wondering now, although it's never been stated, is Toothless the leader of the dragons? I don't think they've ever addressed if they have a power structure, but with his natural intelligence and unique outlook, there is no other dragon who could be capable of leading them.

I would assume the leaders would be the Seadragonus Giganticus Maximus dragons.

Who was promptly deposed by Toothless in a fairly aggressive manner.
There's also a subtext that Toothless was smart enough to realize the Green Death had to be removed, so that Dragons could live in peace with humans.
I'm assuming should a new Death arise to try and reassert control, Toothless would be as hostile towards them as he was towards their predecessor.
And this time, they'd have the advantage of both knowing how to beat a Death and the fact that they are not invincible.

But that leads to the question: Is the Night Fury a superior species of dragon to the Seadragonus Giganticus Maximus? Simply put, the Red Death did not have a blind spot, was well over 100 times Toothless' size, showed the capability to fly at Toothless's speeds, and could fire extremely large amounts of fire.
Toothless and Hiccup achieved victory through outsmarting the Red Death--But assuming that would give Toothless the advantage against any other Seadragonus Giganticus Maximus isn't logical, as the Green Death was apparent to be far more intelligent than the Red Death from the movie, and had the Hiccup and Toothless duo fought the Green Death from the book, they may not have been able to achieve victory.

Also, in the books, Hiccup is a reasonably skilled swordsman after he began to use his left hand, but still proved inferior to Dogsbreath the Dunbrain in combat. (The latter of which was notably inferior to Snotlout)

There was an incredibly well thought out analysis of Toothless's character and personality on Tumblr that I think you guys would enjoy. I'll try to find it when I get home.

Like Hiccup says, they used the Green Death's size against itself.
It's bigger and stronger, but not as agile or as fast as Toothless.
Also, Toothless' fire blast seems to be quite powerful, as one shot knocked the Green Death down.
So, in a pitched battle, Toothless would always have the advantage, due to his speed.
And in future engagements with any more Deaths, it would be a much shorter battle, Toothless would just provoke them into opening their mouth and spit fire inside!
Given how they're keen on eating pretty much anything and everything, that would not be hard to do.
