While I was watching the DVD, I started to wonder about a certain scene. The Green Death is chasing Astrid and Stormfly and starts inhaling air to suck them down it's throat. Which made me wonder, why didn't Stormfly shoot her tail spines down it's throat? The impact of many spines hitting the sensitive tissues of the tongue and mouth would have caused great pain. Especially since the impact velocity of the spines would have been massively increased by the vortex of the air. At the very least, massive tissue trauma would have been inflicted in this manner, even if it wasn't fatal. Try inhaling when your mouth and tongue has multiple impact wounds from 45 cm spikes. The Green Death would be shocked into stopping by the pain, giving Stormfly the chance to fly away. And if one of the spines managed to hit the uvula, well, that would have had quite a significant result! Although I'm not sure you'd want to see the Green Death puking all over the battlefield.

Wow....very good point. I wonder why she didn't? That would've been much more useful...XD
Ew, dragon puke >.<
Welcome btw!

Good point. I never really thought about that. And it's not like you can say she didn't think of it, because it should be instinct.

I had no idea about this fact. Ouch! But you are right. Why didn't she do this?

Maybe that with the pull of the Red Death, Stormfly couldn't put enough strength in her tail to flip hard enough to send the spikes flying?

That makes sense. I'll guess that's correct.

That could be the reason. I find it nice to chat with new friends.

Well, she wouldn't have to flick her tail, she'd just have to release them and the pull of the air vortex would do the rest.
The flicking gesture is only necessary when she's aiming at a specific target and shooting the spikes to land in a certain place. Which you wouldn't need to do if you just want to fire them out at a target directly behind you.
Given that the tail spikes have significantly less mass then the combined weight of Astrid and Stormfly (and also, they aren't pushing against the airflow with the power of flight), they'd be inside the Green Death's mouth long before Stormfly was.

But if you needed to flick to dislodge them, wouldn't that mean that they were only loosely in there in the first place?

But if you needed to flick to dislodge them, wouldn't that mean that they were only loosely in there in the first place? Not necessarily you have to think on most reptiles their tail is the second strongest part of their body it can deliver tremendous force and maybe all that is needed to throw them spines?
