I've just signed up for an account here, so I thought I should introduce myself to everyone.
A bit about me:
I'm a longtime fan of the HTTYD movie (I watched it just after it came out on DVD), though I have never read the books. I'm enjoying watching the TV series as well, although I don't think it lives up to the movie. In real life, I am a physics student, so my brain is stocked with all sorts of odd and interesting knowledge, particularly Newtonian physics and aeronautics. I am the proud owner of a (special-needs)cat. I'm a decent author, though by no means perfect. I've written a few Stargate fan-stories, but nothing about HTTYD so far.
I'll probably be wandering around these boards on occasion (schoolwork takes up most of my time these days), weighing in occasionally on the latest Dragons: Riders of Berk episode.

Hey there Albert! Welcome to the forum! Hope you enjoy your stay XD
A physics student huh? That pretty interesting XD Not too much of a fan of it, but physics are pretty interesting to me XD
Feel free to post anywhere that you'd like! ^^

Sorry guys, I got occupied with my college homework and didn't have time to check these forums yesterday. toothless11:Thank you! I agree- physics is interesting! My specialization is Electro-optics, so I know a lot about light, lasers, and fiber-optics. Seb:Thank you! I've started on several HTTYD stories, but nothing long enough or finished enough to be considered a proper fan-fic as of right now. My own high school didn't offer physics until the higher grades either. I greatly wish now that I had focused more on algebra before taking physics, because a solid knowledge of algebra makes physics a lot less challenging. By the way, if anyone has any questions about physics, (or lasers, or fiber optics), feel free to throw them my direction

Welcome to the forum!
I'm also a university student and know all too well how time consuming it can be, so hopefully you'll find more time to visit some time in the future.
Have fun and enjoy your time here!
.... Oh, and I'm going to extend the same invitation as Albert, and say that if anyone has any questions about my field (Psychology, Anthropology, Sociology and Family Studies), just say so!...

Hi there guys! Albert, I'll use your topic to introduce myself as well. I've just subscribed to this forum too, but for a long time I've been using it as reference for new HTTYD material, news etc. Since I'll be watching the live streaming on the internet at this site www.livestream.com/cfdragons for a long time a I thought that it would be nice to join the forum and introduce myself. I'm an engineering student (naval engineering more specifically, I want to build boats, ships, oil rigs, those kind of stuff) and I live in Brazil (btw where are you guys from? I'm from São Paulo - Brazil), therefore I want to appologize if I can't make myself clear sometimes. As for hobbies, besides searching for new dragon material (though I've never read the books, I intend to), I love gaming, traveling and reading books (Game of Thrones lately), all when I've time to spare. Also, as it was said previously by albert and solarsurfer, you may ask me anything about sea, ships, and also about my country. Before ending this message I would like albert to explain me something: I like visiting 9gag.com and some days ago I've found an image similar to this one: d.asset.soup.io/asset/1195/4541_8049_637.pngI understood the spirit of the joke, but I'm not sure if I understood nature of the effect, is it a something like the doppler effect, or is there more to it? Anyway, it's nice to meet you all!

Hi Sthefano!
About the joke, as far as I can understand, yes it does have to do with the doppler effect, exactly as you said.
I currently live about an hour and a half south of Calgary, Alberta, Canada. I was born in Tumbler Ridge, British Columbia and grew up in a few towns in Nova Scotia (Halifax included) before moving here though.
Anyways, welcome to the forum! Enjoy your time here!

Thank you Solarsurfer! If I'm not mistaken a friend of mine went some years ago to Calgary, she had English classes there, but I don't recall much of her impressions, only that she had an insanely beautiful view of the Rockies and that the summer nights were cold (We are used to 30-25 ºC on summer and 10-20 ºC on Winter, altough this year we are having a strangely hot Winter, yesterday we had 30ºC at night time).

Woah, a lot of posts got made while I was occupied with studying for my calculus test sthefano: Hi! Naval Engineering sounds like an interesting field. I imagine there's a lot of Newtonian physics involved? solarsurfer was correct about the joke- it's the Doppler effect, only with light-waves instead of sound. However, there is a second joke in that, in order to make the light shift light from red (about 650nm wavelength) to blue (about 400nm wavelength), the observer would have to be closing with the bumper sticker at close to the speed of light (don't quote me on this though, as I didn't run the calculations).

Lol, That would be quite a crash! Yes, We don't get even close to Relativistic mechanics, even though I had some classes on my first year about it! Hope you nailed your test!
