@oneill
Lol kind of XD. But also, after reading 2 books of The Divide troligy, I really loved them and it made me forget and not worry muc about the film or anything. But now that I'm finished (though I need to read the third book which I don't have :/), all the HTTYD things are getting back into me and I'm starting to wonder wheather the shorts will suck or not again XD.

Just finished reading a couple more Hitchup chapters tonight. I'm telling you, the writing is absolutely un-be-lievable in every aspect from technical to structure to character and story. Part of me hates reading it because you realize with each completed chapter, you get closer to the end of the book - and that feeling started before I even reached chapter 10 out of 40. It's THAT good! The only thing that forces me to put it down is when the battery in my Touchpad nears the end of it's life at around 5:00 in the morning.
Like I said, it's a hell of a lot more deep, dramatic, and mature than the film, so if your the kind to look forward to mostly the action parts of a HTTYD fanfic, this may not be for you. However, the few action sequences I've read over thus far have been absolutely outstanding and engaging. And I have yet to read the end of the book where I'm sure action will reach its peak.
At an insane 330,000 words, I just realized this story dwarfs most Tom Clancy novels in length. That places it at the top 2 percentile of novel lengths. Even that considered, I still wish it was 10x longer! XD
Sorry if I'm getting off-topic in my own thread, but seriously though, you all have to read this fanfic.

Here is the author's minimalistic-like synopsis: So just to clarify, this story is a deviation from the film that starts where Hiccup goes to Toothless and says that they're "going on a little vacation...forever." In this story, that idea is entertained where he actually does banish himself from the island and finds a life on his own for 2 years. This was a story that took the author a year in the making and it was finished 3 weeks ago.

Wow lol. I might read it, though not anytime soon :/. With school bein much harder ten it was before, and my entire HTTYD interest being temperarely replaced by The Divide stories, I really don't feel like watching/reading anything HTTYD-related. That's why I'm not so interested in theshorts anymore. Although I might read it immediately after I'm in love with HTTYD again XD. Though I'm not sure if I'll read it either way cuz I only like to read short fics, under 20 chapters. And it sounds like this story is rated M, and I only like reading T and below . But who knows...

Yes, the author has stated numerous times that she had to hold herself back to keep the content in line with a "T" rating. That said, there are borderline parts of the story which some could view as needing an "M" rating. So it really depends on what you feel prepared to read. You have to let go of the atmosphere and content parameters given by the film which was obviously made for audiences of nearly all ages.
I probably should retract my earlier statement in saying that you all have to read this fanfic. I would say this story would be most suited for readers from late teens to adult. I would also say that you should't read this story if your not prepared to have a totally innocent and pure perception of HTTYD and its characters flipped on its head. That's why I said this story tainted my interest in the shorts. So definitely heed the author's warning of "read at your own risk."

Haha lol . I once read a HTTYD FIC that had something kinda mature. I didn't like it much though. Even though I pretty much look/sound/act/think like a 15/16 year old, I still prefer to read non-mature stuff.Cuz that mostly ruins the movie for me XD

Temperarely or definately. Though I am slowly getting it back with the help of some HTTYD RPs going on at the other forum XD. Thanks to them, I've manage to love the movie all this time.
And lol. I found the official website of the author of the books that I read. It had the author's email. I sent er a message and got a reply in a few hours! Lol XD.

I read the first chapter... Only So its like you totally lost intrest in the entire movie? Heh, did you not like where it was going or the tone? While the first chapter sets the direction of the story and gives you an idea of how technical writing is handled by this author, it's not a good reference chapter to give you an insight of what you're in for and how mature it really gets. Was that a question directed at me? I would say I haven't completely lost interest in the film. Besides, my interest in the film is what makes me love this story so much. However, I think it has the power to strongly taint your feelings about the film by means of adding a lot more depth to the characters and by introducing a sense of realism to the story by incorporating historically accurate 10th century Norse culture and social standards. One good example of what I mean is, in the story, Astrid's mother tries to marry her off to a man who's twice her age. So yeah, it's has a very different approach than you'd expect from just watching the film. Here's another excerpt from the author's profile regarding her story: I don't want to sound patronizing, but this story may not appeal all that well to young readers such as yourselves. Perhaps if you're still enticed about HTTYD after the third film comes around, you might consider picking it up for a read.

Le checking the Fanfic. ----> Let me know your impressions if you get a ways in. Do heed the author's and my warning though. I don't feel like reading it . Eh, I can't fault you. It is ridiculously long and will shock the hell out of you (as in WTF) several times. And if you are indeed phasing in and out of the HTTYD fandom, I can understand that too.

K, I just read through chapter 31, and I feel I need to reinforce my warning about the content in this fic. Earlier, I said that the author was bordering the line between a 'T' rating and an 'M' rating, well the last chapter has content that I definitely have to argue ascends to an 'M' rating - and not because of violence or language..... There was an earlier chapter that had similar content that could justify the same rating, but the last one was noticeably more...descriptive. Implicit writing can only hide so much. The author said she was aiming more for reality over morality, and it's the reason why she succeeded that I find this to be a remarkably captivating, moving, and convincing story.
So yeah....again, if you don't want to have your innocent views of these characters severely screwed with *cough*, you may want to avoid this as much as I feel that this fanfic is a masterpiece (thus far anyway). But if you think you can prevent stories with differing levels of maturity from cross-contaminating each other in your head, then by all means...
Anyway, just don't want to get yelled at later with someone posting "WHAT THE HELL DID YOU JUST MAKE ME READ?!?"
