Human
Name: Chestnut “Chess” Eklund
Age: 15
Gender: Female
Image:
Hair Appearance: Long light brown hair. Goes down to the middle of her back. She doesn't bother to tie it back; she's used to the length of her hair, so it doesn't really bother her all that much.
Eye Color: Blue
Clothes: Chess wears a dark green tunic. It's a bit bigger than her, so she keeps it snug and close with a brown wrap around her waist. She has long bands of dark gray fur around her arms for Hutch to sit on (they're also mighty comfy when it's cold). She has brown pants on as well, and a pair of slightly over-sized fur-lined boots. Chess' dad didn't know much about clothing for women...
Personality: Chess doesn't know a lot about interacting with people. Because she grew up in a lonesome environment, she's not very charismatic; she doesn't know how to react to other things, and most of the time comes across as a lost puppy in a city. Despite this, she's cheery and willing to try new things in order to make herself likeable. However, she's very gullible.
She also hates the name Chestnut. Her father named her after a tree, since “that's all he's good for”. To push herself away from her father, she uses the name Chess.
Weapon: Chess has a simple knife mostly for carving food and whatnot. She hasn't had a reason to use it in a situation of violence, but she has a good idea of how to use it...
Theme Song: Rush – The Trees
Voice Actor: Ellen Page
Dragon
Name: Hutch
Species: Shoulder Raptor
Gender: Male
Image:
Appearance: Hutch is your average Shoulder Raptor. He's tiny and can sit on a shoulder or an arm, much like a trained falcon or hawk. He's completely white, except for three light blue stripes down his back. He has two white ears on his head; he also has two horns on his head (in a mohawk fashion), and spikes down his tail. He has three claws on each foot. His wings are simple, and are attached freely to his back.
Abilities: Hutch's flying abilities are much like a normal bird's. He can also hover in place, much like a Gronckle. Hutch is a bit on the young side and also had injured his wings, so he has to rest frequently while flying. Shoulder Raptors can also breathe fire. While the flame is very small, it's temperature is incredible.
Personality: Hutch is shy. He thinks everybody except Chess is out to eat him. He's very skittish and loud noises scare him. He can come to like other humans and dragons, but that can take a very long time. He is also mute. He doesn't know how to speak Dragonese. He can make noises, such as growls and some form of a laugh, but he can't actually communicate with dragons. Hutch likes eggs. He'll eat any form of eggs, but he really enjoys eating them cooked.
Backstory
Chess lived in a small wooden house with her father on the edge of a forest. Her father is a woodcutter, and spends most of his days in the forest chopping wood; her mother died giving birth to her. Her father and her were the only two who lived on the forest home.
Chess spent her days working at the house, due to the fact that her father was always busy out in the forest; she would make the meals and whatnot. However, after so many years of preparing dinner for a father she barely saw, she started to yearn for the outside world.
One day while collecting food, Chess came across a small white creature in a bush. Picking it up, she realizes it's a tiny dragon: a Shoulder Raptor to be exact. Upon examination, the dragon had crashed and hurt his wings and left foot, making it hard for him to try to flee from Chess. She brought it back to the house with little difficulty and tended to him. When her father came home, she put him into a hutch. When he left the next morning for the forest, she took him out. She decided to name him Hutch then.
Hutch proved useful for Chess for her daily jobs. He could carry baskets for her and help get food, and help create fires. When they weren't busy doing work, they would adventure around the area and play with one another. Chess would also tell him stories, as well as her yearning to leave and try to become part of the main Berk village. Over this time, Hutch grew attached to her, and the two were inseparable.
One day, Chess' dad came home early and saw the two playing catch with a twig. Her father starting throwing logs at Hutch, and Chess got him to stop, only so he could yell at her and kick her out of the house.
Chess left with nothing except the clothes on her back and Hutch. She decided to follow her dream and leave for the main town on Berk.
btw yeah I suck at drawing.
