Is there any special experiance that you have when you first went to go see the movie?
Honestly, when I first saw the previews and all for HTTYD, I thought it was stupid and horrible and was going to be another movie with dumb wise cracking dragons and other talking animals. I hated the idea of it and I refused to see it. It was released on March 26th. My birthday is on March 28. As Fate would have it, my brother, who is 11, wanted to take me out for my birthday. Being a child, he decided on a movie and dinner afterwards, all of which he paid with with his alloance that he had been saving up just for the occasion. He's such a cute little kid. But either way, being only 11 and I having never voiced my opinion of how stupid I thought the movie was going to be, he took me to see HTTYD. There was really nothing else we could watch together out in theaters. We saw it in 3D and with the opening sequence, I had already changed my whole prespective of the movie. I loved it, to say the least.

I was blown away by the creativity and depth of the movie. I tend to go to the theater a lot out of boredome and watch about anything. That was the reason I went to see this to kill an afternoon of boredom..well..I definetly wasn't bored for the rest of the day thinking and searching for things about the movie online. XP

Watched it on my computer because the movie wasn't in theaters anymore... was still blown away by the flying scenes though even without 3D.

Hmmm...I think it had to be the previews from the theaters that grab me by the attention for the movie. And as a follow fan of the dragon world, I wasn't gonna turn it down. Seriously, when can you turn down something as awesome as dragons? So I went to go see it on opening day in IMAX 3D. Fortunately, I went to go watch it by myself cause my mom doesn't care for 3D and my dad was waaay too busy to show off cause of work and stuff, so I went alone cause I didn't know who else to turn to. And thought it was good. To be truthful, I couldn't bring myself to call it one of the best Dreamworks movie cause it couldn't come to me that way, and for months and months that went by, I've been dying to see it again. But nobody I knew would go with me! Til my dad just recently last month finally decides to go see it with me when I found out it was playing at the dollear theater (yet again in 3D) and we watch it. I was so glad to get it outta my chest and now I'll have to wait til the DVD comes out!

Warning: If you haven't seen the movie ((which would be kind of strange, cuz it's been out for a while and you're a part of this forum so...)) I advise you don't read this post if you don't like spoilers. -- When I first saw a trailer for it, I honestly thought it looked really stupid. I did not want to see it at all. But hanging in the chat box for the 9 Forum and the Skype chat where some of us 9tards hang and talk, a bunch of people I talk to all the time were ALWAYS talking about it and how cute "Toothless" was and that "Hiccup" looked awesome... honestly, at first, I thought Hiccup was the dragon and I was confused as to what they were talking about with "Toothless". After about a month of sitting through their constant chattering about the movie, I decided it'd be worth seeing, but I didn't search up any more trailers or promo images or anything related to it. I achieved something GREAT in school that I had been working really hard for, and my mom was really proud of me so she said that she'd take me out to see How to Train Your Dragon for a prize or something along those lines. So I went to see the movie for a first time without much knowledge of ANYTHING that was going to happen. The one trailer I had ever seen of it was one of the trailers that was pretty much all about the jokes and funny parts. I hadn't seen the dramatic trailers with snidbits from the scene with the Red/Green Death, so honestly, I just thought it was going to be about a boy, literally, training his dragon and some girl that couldn't believe that he was going to try to train a dragon. That's seriously all I thought it was going to be. So the day comes when we're supposed to go see it, and it's still a movie that I just think will be worth seeing. I'm not excited or anything, so I decide to be a moron and wear my only 9 T-shirt I own to go see this movie.... I was BLOWN away. I didn't see it in 3D the first time I went to see it ((I could've, but I thought my mom didn't like 3D in theaters, so I said no)) but it was amazing. I was completely caught off guard when the huge dragon rose out of the red smoke and ate that Gronkle, cuz I had not been expecting a huge plot like that to take place. And I mentally slapped myself in the face when I learned that the boy was named "Hiccup" and that he named the dragon "Toothless". My mom and I were BOTH surprised and caught of guard when it was revealed that Hiccup had lost his foot at the end... wow, I was not expecting anything like that happen. To be honest, I was actually expecting Toothless to die... cuz, in said Skype convo, one of my friends who had already seen it was telling us what she thought about the movie, and she said that at the end ((I figured she meant the end of the movie, not the end of the fight scene, cuz I didn't know there would be a fight scene)) some little girl yelled "What happened to the dragon, mommy?" or something like that... so I was actually waiting and expecting Toothless to die. I was happy when he didn't, lol, but Hiccup losing his foot was a shocker. I went to see it again without 3D with my older sister, and she made the movie even funnier. She was whispering sarcastic comments all over the place to me and we were giggling and laughing and it was a great way to see the movie a second time. Then I finally got to see it in 3D with one of my friends, and the one part during the end fight sequence where Hiccup first sees the Red/Green Death's wings and says, "That thing has wings... okay, let's see if it can use them!" and then Toothless shoots down to fire a shot at it... I was REALLY looking forward to seeing that part in 3D... idk why, but I really was. And it totally lived up to my expectations. It was really funny, though, cuz when the opening music started playing when my friend and I went to see it in 3D we literally started slapping each other because we were both so freaking excited to see it. XD So we were having like a mini "cat fight" in our theater chairs... it was awesome. And we were the only two that stayed for the credits, and while they were rolling, we were running around the theater switching from random seat to random seat because we had the whole thing to ourselves. XD ANYWAY... yeah, so I was proved wrong, cuz it was amazing. Yeah, wow, I don't think I've ever posted like this before... wow, lol. Just so much to tell, and I'm a natural born writer so everything becomes a freaking novel... anyway, good times, good times. [/center]

I have to confess I didn't even know this movie existed two days before it's release in France. I don't go to the theatre very often, if at all. But two days before HTTYD went out, I caught some stupid advertising on the right of my mailbox, the kind of annoying moving thing that I never ever click... And I had to click. Something in the name I guess. It led me to a bunch of short videos (the ones used to introduce the flash games on the official website), and so I expected some sort of comic movie. Anyways I decided that I had years of unseen movies to catch up with, and this one was about dragons, which we don't see enough these days, so I dragged my parents to see it. (My best friend didn't want to come... And still doesn't want to believe this movie is even worth seeing once! Shame on him and his... Stubborness issues! ) It also was the first time I was going to see a 3D movie, which may have played it's part in how I felt about it... What happened next... Well, it wasn't what I expected from the humor of the short scenes, but oh my was it worth it, for I cried out of emotion on the way back, and eventually ended up there.

Everyone at the 9 Forum was talking about how good it was. I hadn't planned on seeing it, but I decided to give it a watch...I was not sorry. <3 It was an amazing movie and I'm more than glad that I saw it. :3

I saw it when I went to Colorado to see some family and my little cousins, uncle, grandma, and I were all hanging and decided to go to the movies after seeing the HTTYD trailer on TV. I was reluctant because...it was Dreamworks and I don't like the stuff they make that much. So I go with them and I sit as far from them as possible because I didn't want to hear my cousins talking (They are 3). I sit and sat in awe! IT was so great and magical and I didn't want to leave when the movie ended! I was so bummed out that I wanted to fly like Hiccup so badly that I decided to pretend to be Toothless for my cousin and put him on my shoulders and "flew" him to the car.
Now when I went back home I went to see it with my mom in 2D, It was just as good and my mom actually didn't ask questions during the movie like she usually does. It was great to have a movie we both liked! Soon I convinced her go see it in 3D! It was awesome...IT just felt magical! I actually went depressed after seeing the movie because I realized I wouldn't ever have a life like Hiccups with dragons and stuff but one of my friends got me out of the rut! I just can't wait for the DVD! I really hope the have commentary!

I didn't know a whole lot about the movie before seeing it(except that David Tennant was in it)and just decided on a whim after hearing it was good to take my two youngest siblings(aged 7 and 10)to it after school one day. I can honestly it was one of the best times I've ever had at a movie. It was even better when my siblings both tried to hide behind me when Green Death showed up...although I admit to being a bit scared myself. It was just a great time, and right afterwards we went to McDonald's for supper and my sibs got Night Fury toys(one of which I immediately stole)

First time I heard about it I couldn't care less really, lol xD Though as more footage was being revealed, I actually thought it was cool. Alas, I saw it, was blown away, and became a fangirl.

I had wanted to see HTTYD when I first heard about it, but didn't go when it was first released. Forgot about it, until in July (when it was in the discount theaters 'cause it had been out for four months) I decided to see it with a friend who likes that kind of movie, too. I heard that it was awesome in 3D, so we drove quite a little distance to see it. I adored it from the first frame to the last! I went to see it again (a closer theater this time, also in 3D) with another friend, and was just as enchanted the second time. I WILL definitely buy this on DVD/Blu-Ray, even though it's not in 3D. One of my favorite animated movies ever! Love love love Toothless.

I was actually expecting it to be really bad. The only trailer I ever saw for it was that horrible one about all the silly humor that made it look like just another dumb kids movie. Even the title added to more to that speculation(how many good "How To" movies are there out there?). I wished I could have skipped that trailer every time I saw it in the theaters and refused to have anything to do with the movie for weeks. But then one day, out of sheer coincidence, my sister was going with some friends to see it, so I just tagged along cause I was willing to bear through it if I could spend some time with her. And when we both got there to meet her friends, she didn't have any money(can't remember why) and didn't really feel like going, and said I could just go without her. But there was no way I was going to that movie without her to fall back on. But She was complaining about how she wasn't feeling well and really really really didn't want to go. We both had a whining contest with eachother, and i won. So I convinced her to get money out of her account (there was a bank right across the street) and she was complaining the whole way over saying stuff like "I'm probably not going to be able to watch the whole thing" and "You'll see me texting on my phone most of the time blah blah blah" and i was going "whatever" wondering why I had fought so hard to see this movie. So you can just imagine how blown away I was. I simply loved everything about that movie. The textures of the animation were astounding, the Celtic folk music was beautiful. There were several parts where I just busting out laughing. I was glad that some of the parts in the trailer I really didn't like ended up being different/taken out. My sister ended up watching the whole thing with me. When the part where Hiccup was taking Astrid for a ride she leaned over and said "you can just hear 'A Whole New World' playing." And what really won me over was the ending. That made it's already A rating into an A++. After the movie my sister said that she really really liked it (and she's a hard film critic).
After that I saw it 4 more times, one in a drive in, and one in IMax 3D. That 3D might have been better than it was in Avatar. In the beginning when Hiccup shot that net cannon, it looked like it was coming straight towards me and I grabbed my drink to shield my face. XD

You guys' experiences sound so much like mine... not really wanting to see it and then falling head over heels for it once you sat down to watch it. I remember clearly thinking my first time watching it, in the beginning sequence with the dragon fight, how amazing the music was. And I found myself laughing at a Dreamworks movie... I almost felt ashamed! xDDD (I'm a die-hard Pixar fan, if you didn't know already... and this is the first time I've ever been so won over by a DW movie. ) red
