(For Hyper and I.)
Today was an unusual day on the island of Berk...that is, if you consider a sunny day unusual in a place that tends to be overcast for most of the year. The rain clouds had broken up, the sun was shining unhindered, and a light, cool sea-breeze kept the northern island from heating up to intolerable temperatures.
For many of the rocky island's inhabitants, especially the Vikings, a relatively nice day such as this would never be left to waste, so of course the mountainside village was bustling with activity. Everyone and their families were outside today, glad to have a break from the inclement weather that usually dampened the daily agenda. Weaving between the masses of people were also dozens of large, colorful dragons; perching atop houses and ransacking butcher stalls, where they would occasionally get a freebie if they didn't bug the owner too much. Occasionally, even the sleek, black shape of Toothless, the only tamed Night Fury in Berk, would slip in and out of the chieftain's house to get a glimpse of what was going on, grab a bite to eat, then retreat to his owner's abode, having been satisfied for the time being.
Not far from Berk, a lone, black-haired Viking was taking a walk through the woods that loomed a few yards away, her stern, green eyes constantly shifting to catch even the slightest movement from any living creature in the thick underbrush. Her battle-hammer ready in her hands, the Viking would occasionally stop, call out, and then mark her position into the trunk of a tree with her knife before continuing on her way. She did this every so often until she came to a break in the trees; a small, grassy knoll in the middle of the woods where the scent of lavender and other spring flowers wafted through the air.
"Just like I'd left it...perfect."
The young woman made a beeline for a low, flat boulder near the other end of the clearing, calling out one more time before settling herself on it, unloading both of her weapons, her shield, and finally, her helmet onto the stone's surface. She sat back, running her fingers through her dark hair as she took a moment to catch her breath. Only the sound of a few insects could be heard; the forest was so thick that the din of Berk would not interrupt her one moment. And right now, a quiet place was the best thing for her.

THis silence would not be long lasting. Only a few yards away a short stick of girl was apporaching and mumbling nervesouly to herself. "I can do this. These beasts aren't so bad, Brother told me they're all tame and safe to be around... But he also told me the boat I tried to leave in was safe but it was made of paper." She pulled a large book from her bag and began to scribble notes down.
She sat down on the large flat boulder so abosrbed into her notes that she didn't even notice the other person, who by far dwarfed her in size, sitting just inches away from her.

It didn't take the bigger Viking long to realize that something was amiss in her little clearing, and before she had any chance to figure out what was going on she caught a silhouette of someone sitting not all that far away, absorbed in a large notepad that they had brought with them. The girl turned immediately, wielding her battle hammer in defense and ready to pound the intruder...that is, until she got a look at her size.
At a first glance, the woman that had joined her in the clearing looked to be about normal...though she was obviously a bit short for her age, whatever it was. She didn't look intimidating at all...but then again, neither did Hiccup, and he had taken down and tamed a Night Fury on his first try. You just...never knew, nowadays.
"Hey," the Viking called, setting her winged helmet back onto her head and clutching her hammer with both hands. "What in Odin's name are you doing here? Don't you know a private place when you see one?" She loomed over the intruder, who still seemed absorbed in her notes. "I'll give you until the count of three to hightail it out of here, before I hack a couple more inches off of those skinny legs of yours. One...two..."

Avalon looked up from her notes and turned to the woman she amazingly failed to notice. Her eyes widened and she squeaked in terror starting to back up, "I-I'm sorry! Please don't kill me!" She held the notebook over her head as a shield and crouched down. "I'm sorry! I didn't know this was your place I just need to get to somewhere!"
Avalon was far from a fighter and if you asked her about her skills, she'd say she could barely swing a sword. The best she could do to defend herself was cower behind a book, which was plenty to show that she was no threat and easily kicked out.

The smaller one's assailant was indeed a bit confused at her antics, cocking a brow as the intruder hid herself beneath her notebook, babbling about how she hadn't known this clearing was private, she just needed a place to be...on and on and on. Unfortunately for the newcomer, Valkyrie Havoc wasn't a Viking for words, and much less details. This chick was in her special place, and any attemps to try to make peace with her were futile. An invader was an invader, end of story.
"You better hightail it out of here, in that case," Valkyrie growled, her grip tightening on her battle-hammer. "Or there's going to be something here even far worse than I am, I can assure you that!"

The smaller girl started to back up, lowering her book just low enough to show her eyes, "Why don't we diplomatic about this. I'm not here to take anything. I just need somewhere to stay for a little while before I continue."
She continued to back up until her foot got caught on a root that worked it's way up. She yelped as she tripped over it and fell on her back. "Ow... Brother was right, I can't do this."

"Your brother?" Valkyrie huffed, eyeing the skinny girl with her hammer still raised above her head. "Don't tell me he's here too!" She brought her hammer down with a shuddering blow...right next to the girl, leaving a small series of spider-webbed cracks on the boulder. "By Odin's beard...why is it every time I try to find a decent spot to cool off, someone else has to come in after me? Is there no place in the world that can just be my own, even for an hour?"
She raised her hammer again, whirling back on the intruder. "You better hope what you're doing is going to be quick, because if you're not out of here before the sun sets, I'll-"
Suddenly, the treetops surrounding the clearing shifted, setting off a colony of startled black birds, who took to the air with a chorus of frightened and indignant caws. Nearby, thousands of twigs snapped in unison, and a low growl could be heard through the thick brush. Valkyrie's eyes widened, her attention diverting momentarily from the intruder and towards the source of all the racket as she placed one hand on a dagger sheathed in her belt. "...Don't move," she simply hissed at the intruder, backing up to the other side of the clearing as the noise began to settle. Valkyrie swallowed, keeping her hammer raised. The silence that followed after made the moment seem like eternity before she decided to speak up again.
"...Hello?"
The trees on the opposite side of the clearing were flattened immediately as a huge, grey and blue dragon burst into the clearing, roaring fiercely and baring its teeth beneath the large skull mask that it wore on it's head. It's light blue eyes...or eye, since it seemed one was missing; were locked on Valkyrie's skinny invader, and the dragon lowered its massive head to sniff the girl, showing the cracks and scars on it's bony protection gear.
"Stay right where you are..." Valkyrie whispered, creeping closer to the dragon with every step she took. "Don't move a muscle, or you'll piss him off...just. Stay. Calm..."

Avalon yelped as the boulder splintered next to her. She squirmed back a few inches, "S-Sorry! I didn't mean, I well, um... no he's not here-I'll go as-" Although all she really did was sputter unfinished sentences, Avalon attempted to get up so he could try and reason with the fighter. She hoped that if she could do anything it would to avoid a physical confrontation and talk her way out of the situation.
The sound of birds squawking caused Avalon to lose her footing and fall back to the grass. "What was that?" She whispered as the twigs snapped. Avalon's question went unheard as Valkyrie began to speak and prepare for an attack, "...Don't move,"
Avalon slowly turned her head back to the source of the sound, fear starting to well up in her chest as the unending moment continued. Her train of thought shattered and caused her to flinch when Valkyrie spoke up again.
When the huge dragon burst from the trees Avalon let out a loud scream which she silenced by covering her mouth immediately. When the dragon bent his head down to sniff her, she gave a soft whimper and began to shake slightly.
"Don't move a muscle, or you'll piss him off...just. Stay. Calm..."
Avalon had to fight glaring at the viking, that was easy for her to say, she wasn't the one getting scoped out for a meal by the dragon, "I-I just w-w-wanted to go to B-Berk." She whispered, "T-This isn't h-how-w I planned t-to d-" She cut off looking at the dragon's skull. She stared at the scars and cuts, her eyes drifted to the socket where an eye was supposed to be. Her curiosity caused her to forget how terrified she was.
"By the Scribes, what happened to you?" She said softly, half expecting an answer from the creature.

(Lol, it doesn't matter how long your posts are, Hyper. As long as you're fine with writing them! XD)
The dragon simply huffed at the skinny, young girl's question, though he appeared to turn his injured side away from the girl's view as if he was trying to avoid the subject. Out of the corner of his remaining eye, he noticed the larger one slowly slipping into his blind spot, but he did not grow alarmed. She was no threat.
When the grey dragon was finished, he raised his head back up to full height and let out another loud, thundering roar, which caused the treetops directly in his face to sway his breath and his long, white beard to tremble with the vibration of his throat. He glared down at the intruder, opening his mouth to drench her in flames...
Until he felt a characteristic prick in his thigh.
"No!" Valkyrie called to the massive reptile, drawing his attention away from his hapless prey. The Viking woman had dropped her hammer and had pulled out a good-sized dagger, which she had used to prick the dragon to get him to focus on her.
"Sloane...back away from the girl."
The dragon's pale blue eye blinked in confusion, and his gaze darted from Valkyrie to the intruder. But...wasn't she just threatening to attack her? And she sure didn't smell like a Berk dweller. What was she doing here anyway?
"SLOANE! I said, 'Back down'!"
The battle-scarred reptile finally took heed of his master's commands, and the lumbering beast settled into the lush earth of the clearing, as Valkyrie came back from around him. For a moment, her hostility had nearly vanished; although the Viking was still rather miffed about the intrusion of her private place.
"He's not supposed to be here," Valkyrie managed to get out, sheathing the dagger back into a sheath at her side. "So don't go asking as to why he's allowed here and you're not." She sighed, taking her winged helmet off and running her fingers through the jet-black hair that had become matted from being covered.
"So...you want to get to Berk?" she forced out after a momentary pause. "...Why?"

The girl tilted her head as the dragon turned away, "Did I say-?" She cut off when the dragon raised his head and roared. Avalon screamed and threw her arms up and wrapped them over her head as if that would protect her from the flames that were about to fry her to a crisp, "NO!"
She curled up into a shivering ball, even though she heard the other woman call the dragon back. She didn't dare move from her fetal position on the ground until the woman began speaking directly to her.
"So...you want to get to Berk?" she forced out after a momentary pause. "...Why?"
Avalon looked up and carefully got to her feet at the question, "Well... I heard it was filled with Dragons and.... now that I'm 20, I need to fill my books with the knowledge I can gain from studying them. It's my right of passage and they are creatures almost unknown to the valley I live in. But, we know that they flourish here."
She grabbed a lock of her hair and began to nervously twist it through her fingers, "I'm Avalon.... and this is probably one of the most frightening meetings I've ever had in my life."

The taller woman nodded, finally shouldering her battle hammer and extending her free hand towards the skinny girl. "Valkyrie...but you can call me 'Val' for short. A lot of people do." She looked over th the huge grey dragon, who was watching Avalon warily with his single blue eye. "And this is Sloane...my dragon. He gets a little...protective sometimes," she continued, walking over to him and placing a hand on his shoulder. The dragon grunted in disinterest, and Valkyrie rolled her eyes.
"Don't worry...once you get to know him, he's just a big, grouchy grandpa-dragon," she teased, making Sloane snort and shake his head so that his white beard quivered beneath his skull. "He won't hurt you at all..."

Avalon hesitated a moment before giving Valkyrie's hand a quick shake.
"It must be nice having someone who's so protective of you. I never really had a lot of that myself." She smiled, "Even if it's a Grandpa dragon." She edged herself over to try and get a look at Sloane's scarred side, "Is he alright? He looks really battered."

Sloane snorted at Avalon's constant questions, a small amount of black smoke escaping his nostrils as he swallowed back a shot of fire he had almost blown at the girl before. He continued to watch Avalon carefully, despite Valkyrie's orders...for you never knew who was and who was not a potential threat. Sloane had met many dragons that were built similar to this new human that could put up quite the fight...in fact, he had battled such creatures before. The pockmarks in his shoulders proved that he would not take any chances, even if Avalon was harmless.
"He's a war dragon," Valkyrie responded, running her finger in a relatively deep scar on Sloane's side. "He used to fight other dragons every single say of his life...it was his role in their society." She poked a tender spot and Sloane trained his eye down on her, grunting in disapproval. "All this is from other dragons...he had them when I recieved and trained him."

Avalon meekly took a step closer, "Wow, he's really something... I've never seen anything like that. A war dragon." She paused a moment before scribbling something down in her book and clapped it shut.
"Are you from Berk? Because, I'm actually three days lost and I used up all of my supplies yesterday. I haven't even eaten today... So as you can see I could use some directions." She looked down and laced her fingers together, "If you... don't... mind."

"Yes...I'm from Berk," Valkyrie nodded, scratching at a spot beneath her helmet. "We're not that far away actually...if you'd like, I can fly you back on Sloane or we could walk there...all depends on whether or not you trust him enough to carry you." She smirked.
"And trust me...the villagers would be a bit more welcoming than I...well, most of them. I can't speak for Chief Stoick or any of the elders...my dad included." Sloane's eye narrowed as Valkyrie mentioned Elder Havoc, but Valkyrie reached up and touched his shoulder with two of her fingers. "Relax," she muttered, turning back to Avalon.
"Are you interested?"
