So has anyone heard of Naomi Novik's epic historical fiction-fantasy series? Besides the fact that it is optioned by none other than Peter Jackson to be adapted into a feature film, it is one of the most interesting and exciting books I've read! Think of it as the Napoleonic Wars... fought with dragons! Not to mention Temeraire reminds of Toothless in several ways (dark-scaled, inquisitive and intelligent, fiercely loyal to human friend). All the characters are awesome, Captain Will Laurence; a naval officer turned reluctant hero, Temeraire; the eponymous dragon with a taste for battle and a desire to improve the conditions of his fellow creatures, Lien; an albino Celestial consumed by revenge and driven to destroy Temeraire and everyone he loves, Volatilus, the slightly dull-witted and cow-obsessed courier lightweight, Keynes; the calm and methodical dragon surgeon, and of course, the architect of Europe's misery, Napoleon Bonaparte himself. I'm now almost finished with 'Black Powder War', but Novik announced the sixth book called 'Tongue of Serpents' is out now, so I still have a long way to go to catch up! Last I checked, they had the first book free online as a PDF, but they've since removed it (it was for a 'limited time'). Shoulda downloaded it... but anyway, if you find it at your local library/bookstore, you should check it out!

Yeah, I love the Temaraire series! I stumbled upon them after I saw a great review of them from Stephen King and I had to read them all immediately! I've only read and own the first five, though. I haven't read the new ones, yet, but I plan to!

I love the temaraire series, too. The only book that I didn't care for was Victory of Eagles. I haven't yet read Blood of Tyrants.
