Because what page about other dragon media would be complete without one of the best book series about dragons to date?
I don't know if there's any other Pern fans here, but hey. XD

I've read Dolphins of Pern. Combined two of my favorite things: dolphins and dragons. xD
I'm trying to read DragonQuest right now, but I'm not too sure what to think of it. ^^;

I'm really fond of them... been into them since 2001-ish. Check out Dragoneye if you can. It's a good one. Dragonquest was the first book she wrote in the series, and it's okay, if a little dry. If you're confused on backstory, check out The Masterharper of Pern.

Got Skies of Pern today (if only because I read there was romance in it, and I'm a sucker for romances in sci fi/fantasy novels). Is it any good, CJ? I'm going to start reading it after I finish How To Train Your Dragon.

"Skies of Pern" is okay. If you'd like some nice romance with a healthy dose of angst thrown in, I'd suggest picking up "Masterharper of Pern." It gives some good back-story to one of the main players in the first trilogy (Dragonflight, Dragonquest, and The White Dragon) as well. And I'm not just saying this because Masterharper Robinton is amazing. ♥

I've not read all of the more recent ones, but I read all the Dragonriders of Pern books there were at the time about ten years ago. That's the only thing I've really roleplayed in any way, on PernMUSH (aka NC) where I managed to Impress and eventually become a Wingleader at Telgar Weyr. Unfortunately the RP got a bit stagnant as there was rarely any conflict or events outside of Search.

Don't waste your time with anything after she started writing with/handed the reins over to her son Todd. They're really not worth the effort. He just lacks the voice she has with that world.

Yeah, that was pretty much where I lost interest.

Oh don't remind me... I had to stop half way through the serie like five years ago due to a lack of reading time, and have yet to finish it (which involves starting over from the first one to prevent my slacky mind to go "who the hell is this guy already?"). Best dragon related books ever anyway. <3

I've only read a few of the Pern books but I really liked the ones I read and I would love to read more! I also think you guys would be interested in the Dragon Jousters series by Mercedes Lackey. It's kind of like the Pern series except the dragon riders use lances and fight in midair on their dragons, which I think is a pretty cool concept!

Oh, yeah. I'm familiar with them. I've read all of the books Anne wrote solo. I've read a few that Todd did...I finished them, but it was slow-going. But, I credit Anne McCaffrey's Pern for firing up my interest in dragons, which continues to burn to this day.
