Not that HTTYD isn't good enough for the older generation but if you could change a few things for the older audience members what would you change?

First, I would get rid of "Hey guys! We're on a dragon! We're all on a dragon!" and replace it with something else. That kind of stuff is too childish. :/
Then, the scene right after that where gober says something and stoik nods as if he understood everything by just seeing them ride dragons. They could have put that scene in some point later when it is obvious that befriending a dragon is actually a benefit, it just happened so fast which kind of made it look cheezy. :/
Other than that, I'm perfectly okay with the film. The sarcastic jokes were very laughable for adults even though kids might not understand them, and the script in general was quite clever and not too childish. The ending scene would have been shocking for kids, where he loses a leg because animated films don't usually end that way, but for adults, the scene where hiccup relies on toothless and toothless relies on hiccup both being disabled was very touching. I hope that most future dreamworks films will be this way, that way I will fully enjoy their film as much as I enjoy Pixar's.

Lol....that's one of the qualities of this film. It doesn't really feel like it was intended for just children. So I don't think anything to be changed because I already see it as a mature enough movie.

I agree, as most of you have already said, that there would need to be very little changes to make HTTYD for an older audience.
One thing that would have needed to be changed would have been the somewhat childish shouts, mentioned already by wringer.
Something I would have done as well is make it harder for Astrid to change her mind. I mean, the flight was great, but IMO, I think it would take a little more than that. It even took Hiccup a little while to completely change his mind.
