So... if the Red Death were the dragon's "God", than would that mean that dragons have their own religion? That'd make for an interesting fanfic.

It's the Red Death, I mean, my game said "After the defeat of the Red Death..." and then I screamed HAH! SO IT IS THE RED DEATH!
And, yuh, Seadragonus Giganticus Maximus is th e official, but there was both a Green and Purple death in the book too so :/

End credit's clearly say Green Death, so do official sites that name the characters that appear in the movie, Wikipedia, and the score track says "Battling the Green Death".
Why all this talk about Red Death?

Because the Red Death is what they call it in the game and apparently the creator's gave it that as it's official, but the movie and OST say differently.
It is... confusing. XD

Maybe it was just a working name, like movies have working titles. Pixar's project 'The Bear and the Bow' had the working title 'Brave', for instance.

Y'know, the weird thing is.... Its never even named in the movie. xD In the book its the Green Death- a Seadragonus Giganticus Maximus. I don't even know why its speculated that its called "The Red Death" because its name is never said! Furthermore, whoever designed must be colorblind it because it is neither green, nor red- it is blue. And I never got why it was the "dragon queen" because in the book its male. xD I think this might've been one of those things that the moviemakers thought through at 2am after they had been working for almost three days straight. lol

Lol the reason it was considered as the "queen" was because Astrid was giving an example that the dragons were like bees, and the red death was like a queen XD. And I too wonder why it's called the red death XD.

What it would be like if the Red Death were to be unleashed on our modern world? Will we be able to stop it? I think that it would make short work of our tanks but perhaps we could nuke it? So what are your thoughts of this idea?

It's the Green Death. The production material mostly refers to it as that, once they'd decided which one it should be.
The Red Death is from the book, where Toothless tricks the Red Death and the Green Death into fighting each other to the death so they weaken and possibly kill each other.
I'm assuming Toothless is smarter then the average dragon, so he has a degree of resistance to the Green Death's mind control abilities. Also, given that the Vikings know that "Night Furies never steal food" would imply that he's not under the compulsion to gather food for it.
I'm getting the impression the reason he showed the Green Death to Hiccup and Astrid was so they could understand what situation the dragons were trapped in.
Also, there's an conversation of energy rule. In order to hunt, a creature will perform a sortof mental calculation as to whether the energy expended in catching the prey will be compensated by the meal they recieve afterwards. That's why predators will give up the hunt if they can't make a quick kill or ignore prey not worth consuming (too small).
Given the size of the Green Death, it would expend a massive amount of energy in hunting. It's much easier to sit motionless in a cave and force the dragons to feed you instead.
And yes, we would be able to stop the Green Death quite easily.
When Toothless fires one of his fireblasts, the force of the impact knocks the Green Death over. Given the size inconsistency, this would mean that Toothless has quite a formidable fireblast.
In modern terms, Toothless' flameburst is equivalent to a low yield nuclear blast.
So a few battleships or even a fighter squadron would make short work of the Green Death.

You're thinking of the Purple Death from the books, man.
The dragon from the movie is Red Death. The Green Death is Merciless from the books.
