Ok here we talk about the man who's not actually a full man anymore due to a Gronkle's appetite!!! Gobber is Stoick's closest friend and the one man with a fatherly fondness for Hiccup, even before Hiccup started training Toothless! So give what ya can about this man as he finds and pounds his tooth back into his mouth and trains some more recruits! XDD

XD I loved his horrid advice and attempts at cheering Hiccup up! They were hilarious!

He really did seem to care for Hiccup, probably because he worked with him in the forge and knew how weak he was. I guess over time he grew protective of him?

I had the impression that Gobber was like an uncle, because he and Stoick have a very confidential.
Goober is the only one who shares with Hiccup a sarcastic vein that characterizes their speeches.

I have to agree with Bane on that one. I though Gobber seemed a bit more fatherly torwards Hiccup than Stoick was. He encouraged Stoick that Hiccup at one point needed to learn about dragons and stuff and saved Hiccup's life several times during his absense.

I walked out of the movies the first time with the conclusion that Gobber was my favorite character. Seriously, he's half the wit of the entire movie, and the jokes he gave never came off as stupid or forced - they all came entirely out of his character (even the "undies" joke... saw that coming with Dreamworks, but it was actually genuinely funny xDD).

I've concluded that he and Stoick were probably childhood friends - they just seem so close, like they had grown up together, and if that were the case, it's only natural that Gobber would take his best friend's son under his wing and apprentice him in blacksmithing. The growing up together thing would also explain that he's known Stoick nearly all his life, and works with when he says at the end, "[Hiccup is] every bit the bull-headed, stubborn Viking you ever were!"

Though I have an interesting observation to make, and I'm not sure if anyone else caught this.

When he's talking about how trolls exist, and "they steal your socks! But only the left ones, what's with that?" It's actually sort of like an oxymoron.

Gobber only has one leg.

His left one.

It's no wonder the trolls only steal his left socks, then. xDD;;

C'8 I feel so smart for figuring this out.

I guess it was originally meant to be some sort of reference to Lilo and Stitch (and how I can't even remember... it's been forever since I've seen that movie), but even if that were the only thing it referenced, it sort of made a double-sided joke anyway. xDD;;
