Found info on her here: howtotrainyourdragon.wikia.com/wiki/CamicaziI'm going to start reading the books, and she seems like an interesting character. The article says that Astrid might have been based on her, but I don't see how, lol. I can't wait to read more about her.

Camicazi was AWESOME in the books! She was my second favorite character (after Hiccup, of course, but she's my top female character).
Astrid was originally supposed to be a version of Camicazi (which explains why her expressions were vastly different in the pre-sketches), but they just couldn't get away with her name. So they changed everything around for a new character.

Camicazi really was a great character. xDDD;;; I don't think I could have seen her working for the film, though, and I'm glad they went with Astrid instead.... although it WOULD be cool to see her in the sequel. *hinthintdreamworks*
I find her name interesting - "kamikaze" is actually a Japanese word (it means "suicide" or something to that effect at least, if I remember right.... and you probably all knew that anyway), yet in Viking times she still ended up with that name. Now obviously I KNOW the book was written in modern times and we already know the word and yadda-yadda-yadda, but I still find it interesting that Cowell used that particular name. YEAH IT'S COOL-SOUNDING, but it's freakin' Japanese. xDDD;;;
Okay maybe it's not THAT interesting.... -shot-
Have you guys ever seen any of the "Eloise" movies (or read the books)? I was reminded of her while reading about Camicazi - she just had this very frank way of saying things, wasn't afraid to try new things or get into trouble (she LOVED getting into trouble, in fact), always had a plan, and was just overall crafty and quick-witted. I have to also say she was my second fave character as well, cuz you just can't top Hiccup no matter which way you try to slice it.

There is no way that Astrid can be Camacazi. Like really. I like how in the books Hiccup never had a love intrest. He was too busy just trying to STAY ALIVE. lol But yeah, I hate all female characters in every book I have ever read. I do not exaggerate. And then Camacazi came along and she somehow, magically, broke that trend. I really like her. She is very interesting. She's proud of herself, but in this innocent way that is hard to explain.

It was later adopted by Japanese suicide bombers in WWII. But it doesn't mean "suicide". XD Camicazi was AWESOME in the books! She was my second favorite character (after Hiccup, of course, but she's my top female character). Astrid was originally supposed to be a version of Camicazi (which explains why her expressions were vastly different in the pre-sketches), but they just couldn't get away with her name. So they changed everything around for a new character. This is also the theory I subscribe to. She's too similar in a lot of ways to Camicazi to be a separate character, but she's also too different in personality and role to really share the name. To me, when they introduced Astrid's dragon as Stormfly, it finalized this for me. I really think Astrid is meant to be the Camicazi stand-in. (Given, they also renamed Snotlout's and Fishlegs' dragons, so...) Though, in the traditional shuffle of HTTYD book-to-movie adaptation, I think we'll be able to see other elements of Camicazi's original character popping up in new female characters down the road, such as Heather in the upcoming TV series, perhaps.

Astrid is different from Camicazi in a few ways:
1. Astrid's a Hooilgan member (like Hiccup) but Camicazi is a bog burglar member 2. Camicazi is a theif (she once stole Stoick underpants while still wearing it hahaha) 3.Camicazi is shorter than Hiccup while Astrid is taller 4.Astrid's hair is in a braid while Camicazi's hair is loose and all tangle up 5.lastly Astrid is axe fighter but Camicazi is a sword fighter (like Hiccup)
but i gues they do share some same features:
1.both hair is bloude 2.both excellent fights 3.both are too cofidence (i'm still thinking about this one) 4.both care about Hiccup 5.both their dragons are name Stormfly

I'd love to see Camicazi appear in the movies (or the series). I think there's a really interesting dynamic that someone who looks down on men (because her tribe believe they are unintelligent) having a deep relationship with a male because she respects his innate intellect. It might also be interesting to have Hiccup's best friend be a woman and possibly a girly buddy for Astrid (although they'd probably talk more about weapons then homemaking). They'd have to give her dragon a different name though, as Stormfly is already taken.
