www.awn.com/news/cg/dreamworks-dragon-fly-againJeffrey Katzenberg told THE HOLLYWOOD REPORTER that DreamWorks Animation plans to have a HOW TO TRAIN YOUR DRAGON sequel in theaters by the second half of 2013. Additionally, the studio has a live arena show, TV series and online virtual world in the works. Katzenberg pointed to the film's box office legs as the reason the studio is investing so much in the franchise, putting in the "beloved" category. Katzenberg also talked up this year's Halloween special SCARED SHREKLESS and a holiday-theme KUNG FU PANDA special.

*stabs the Shrek 'ween special* You guys said Forever After was the last! Course they also have a Puss in Boots movie in mind too...
As much as I LOVED HTTYD....hearing that a TV show is in the works....Im...hesitent... But it could (hopefully) be the best thing out there when it pops up. The virtural world, however, has got my attention full-on!

Well, you guys beat me to it. ^^; I'm excited about that live show thing, most of all. Animatronic dragons = epic win. As long as its DeBlois and Sanders covering the sequel(s), I'm sure it'll be okay...the tv series, who knows, it could pull a Penguins of Madgascar and be better than the movies (imo, anyway ^^ . If the online world costs money, like the KFP one, I'll be pissed.

Okay, the sequel I'm a bit afraid of...it may butcher the movie, but who knows. The tv show sounds a bit awesome, going to be watching for that.
The virtual world definitely has me curious too. :3

I actually liked Shrek 2 MORE than the first movie, so I'm not going to put the sequel on my shit-list just yet. The TV show is also not on my shit-list, because I remember they did pretty good with all those featurettes, and even those Olympic commercials...
We'll just have to wait and see.

But I'm praying to whatever god will listen that they PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE[/u][/b] keep Astrid if they make a TV series. WHY people who make tv series after movies feel the need to replace the main female character with someone completely different is beyond me. But it's annoying as all heck.

^ TRUTH. Keep Astrid. Totally. In fact, don't ruin the feel of the movies and books. Hell, take parts from the books that were left out of the movies and use THEM to make the tv series, I'd be content (such as...the fishing tournament and Greenie vs Purpleie from the first book).
But since this is the new franchise (which means, logically, all the books shall be movies)...are they going to add Camicazi and Stormfly? In case you're wondering, Camicazi is from an Amazon-esque tribe of Vikings and is an expert swordfighter and burgler; Stormfly is Camicazi's dragon, a mood dragon (looks a lot like a Grapple Grounder) with a lying habit, the ability to speak Norse ... and is Toothless' love interest. I kinda do want them to add the both of them, just to screw with the minds of the fans. Especially all of them whining "DUN GIVE TOOTHLESS A LOVE INTEREST!!!" Guess what, he gets one in the ... fifth book, I believe. HA HA! ^^
That's why I'm not TOO insanely upset about the sequels. HTTYD wasn't a single novel, it was a series of eight. So as long as there's SOME sort of source for the movies, I'm okay with it. Provided they don't mess up. That's a big 'provided.' ^^;

Hmmmm... Really this depends what they do with these. The sequel could go either way. I mean, they could do movies based on all the books - sequels to movies based on a book series like Harry Potter, aren't so bad, because well, there's more than one book, so why not more than one movie?
The only thing that could potentially be the downfall is that the plot was basically changed (in the first one) so there were only some recognisable features from the book, making it almost individual in it's own right.
I like sequels if they keep some continuity. I'm a bit obsessive-compulsive (and I use this term rather loosely, mind you) in that I like it where the voices remain the same in movie sequels, plus if all the characters remain. Isn't it just annoying where a character just disappears without explanation?
Hmmm, what I'm trying to say about that is... well, I'm not horrified. I would like to know what they plan to do before making a definite decision - it might be better if they continue more from the movie perspective rather than the book perspective to keep the flow of it.
As for the other things... well, I highly doubt I'm ever going to see the arena show so y'all will have to tell me about it and I'll take your word for it. The TV series may show here in Down Under, but I'll probably never find out. My guess is that it'll be in the mornings when I'm getting ready for school, which sucks. The virtual world sounds pretty cool... I don't really get how that works... unless it's like a Habbo Hotel except with Vikings...
As for Scared Shrekless?? ...
FFFFFFFFFFUUUUUUUUU----!!!!!!!!!! *goes ballistic with machine gun* *RAAAAAAAAGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!!!!!!* GO DIE, SHREK! GO DIE!!!!!

I just hope they keep true to the first. Or more specifically, they ACKNOWLEDGE THE FACT THAT THE FIRST ONE EXISTED. A lot of animated sequels tend NOT to do that. Like... Astrid and Hiccup smooch each other in the first film, but magically, are no longer a couple in the next movie. Things like that annoy me. XD

I wouldn't mind if they weren't a couple in the next, or if their relationship is going bad, as long as they do show that they did like each other in the first. It would show development.
I just hope they don't add in characters like... *thinks* Like how Disney adds them in in their sequels. Like Hunchback 2 and Brother Bear 2, I HATED the new characters in them...

Like... Astrid and Hiccup smooch each other in the first film, but magically, are no longer a couple in the next movie. Oh, like in the DS game? *is shot* I do hope they use inspiration from the books. Like maybe, keep a little nugget of the plot of the book and retell it epically. I dunno. *shrug*

Actually, Astrid never says "I'm not his girlfriend", right? She just says "I'm nobody's girl", which is more along the lines of "you, sir, are a sexist ass".

The way she speaks to Hiccup in general, to me, seems very "pre-kiss"-ish Astrid to me. I dunno why. Its not just that line, its the way she's acting in general.
