Alright now I know this one's gonna get a lot of comments! XDD
Some mainly because the eva SEXEH BEAST Gerard Butler voiced him, others because of how Stoick acted for the most part of the movie towards Hiccup, but mostly all of you are going to comment due to BOTH! (LIKE ME!! XDD)
So! What do YOU have to say about Hiccup's very own father huh? Let us hear (...read....WHICHEVER!!) what you personally think! XDD

XD Yes, you really DO love Butler, don't you?
I think Stoick had great character and really good development. He started out as kind of a "not sure how to handle my son" dad, then he because... well, kind of a jerk. But once he realized Hiccup was right he finally started to listen to him.
His design was AWESOME too, just look at that beard!

Ahh, Gerard Butler... *dreamy sigh*
A great character with great development in my opinion. And... and that beard of his! *tries to hold back squeals* I could write a ten page book report about how awesome his beard was.
But besides his awesome sauce beard... I really did love how his relationship with Hiccup changed greatly toward the end.

Hmmm, what can I say about Stoick?
His voice was sexy. Gerard Butler... how dreamy. Anyway.
Lol, I thought it was pretty funny how his beard was really stiff. Like, it didn't flow with the wind, but stuck out and flopped a little with movement at the same time.
...Did he say that he was wearing half of his wife's breast plate, or was that just Hiccup?

He said that their helmets were a matching pair and that Hiccup's was made from half of the brest plate. So yeah, he did say it, kinda. .... Brest-helmet... *snicker*
I noticed that about his beard too. I guess with all that beard and it being tied together and them being Vikings it got stiff over time.

LOL!!! Breast-helmet! Breast-helmet! Breast-helmet!!! Oh, jeez... just thought of this random conversation:
Astrid: Hey, Hiccup, what's that helmet made out of? Hiccup: .... o/////o *mumbles* Astrid: ? Hiccup: My... mother's breast plate... Astrid: O________________O
Anyway. Only reason I was wondering that is Stoick and Hiccup's heads both seem to be shaped differently. Maybe it's because Stoick is a lot bulkier than Hiccup. ^^

Sometimes I feel like I'm the only girl in the world who doesn't think Gerard Butler is attractive...I think he's awesome, but not hawt...anyhoo.
Breast hat ftw. And like Bane mentioned earlier, I loved the character arc he went through. Unable and unwilling to change his views on dragons, even when his son tries to tell him "Hey, this is screwed up." And even though Stoick has no idea how to talk to Hiccup, he does love the boy very much. Bless his Viking heart. ^^
And Hiccup and Stoick's interactions actually reminded me of how me and my dad were near the end of his life. No matter how much I talked and pleaded and sometimes yelled, I felt like he couldn't hear me and didn't care about me. But when all the walls came down, it was obvious he loved me so much.

So I know I posted this in the "things you noticed" thread, but I had to share this here, since it's a Stoick moment (and his sheer bad@$$ery made it even more epic).
Everyone keeps assuming that when Stoick is referring to the dense fog heading toward the dragons' nest, he's calling it "Hellhound Gate." I listened a little closer and realized something.
He's not saying Hellhound. He's saying Helheim. It's one of the nine worlds in Norse mythology! The realm of the dead, located in Niflheim. Those that enter, even the gods, can never leave it as it's surrounded by the impassable river Gjoll.
He may not have been the Viking that named it that, but it's an extremely clever little snippet for any mythology buffs in the audience. Naming the place where so many ships have entered but never come out of after the inescapable realm of the dead? Pretty appropriate if you ask me!
Stoick certainly knows his lore! I loves him all the more now. <3 I mean. He's got Gerard Butler's voice (Mr. Butler is only thirteen years older than me... I can dream, can't I?), he has the most EPIC BEARD EVER... and now this? Ah, he's shot quite high on my list of favorites now...

I always thought he said Helheim. Then again, I know a lot of stuff about Viking folklore and beliefs.
Tonight. We dine... IN HELHEIM! *is shot for bad actor allusion joke*
Stoick's beard was just AWESOME. And must have been a real pain to animate.

Stoik reminds me of my dad; big, hairy, and talking with him can lead to awkward moments, but I guess that's why I find him to be a likeable character.
Also, I agree, Gerard Butler is a good actor... JUST don't try to make him sing (Sorry, I'm just more of a Michael Crawford fan).

Now what you do is take Stoick the Vast, dress him as the Phantom of the Opera, re-cast Gerard Butler for voice acting and there you have the next most epic movie in Dreamworks' HtTYD franchise: The Phantom of the Hooligans. -shot-
I have to agree with all of the previous statements made, and can't really say anything that hasn't been said about the awesomeness that is Stoick. I can't help but get all mushy over the father-son moments between him and Hiccup, no matter how many times I watch it. I'm a sucker for father-son relationships anyway (Some moments between Marlin and Nemo in Finding Nemo, for instance, usually induce tears from me). <333
Also, did anyone besides me notice just how HUGE his mouth is? My brother pointed it out to me the third time we saw it at the movies (the part where he's yelling at Hiccup in the beginning, "Can't you see I have more important things to worry about?! Winter is almost here and I have an ENTIRE village to feed!"), and now I can't watch that part and not laugh at just how huge it is. It's like... a portal to another dimension or something. Seriously, that mouth is probably 2/3 of his whole face.

Red, you are NOT the only one who thought of Stoick of the Opera. XD
Yeah, his mouth is... HUGE. He could probably swallow a ham whole. XD

Gerard Butler. He's like the epitome of sexy <3
He was so epic as Stoick. It's funny how the character was so lovable even though he was pretty blinded and at times even mean. I think a lot of the reason he was lovable near the beginning was because even though he would scold Hiccup, "ground" him, etc, he was still looking out for him. He was always there to protect him. That was even the whole reason he wouldn't put Hiccup into Dragon Training - he didn't want him to get hurt.
But when I really fell in love with him was at the end, when he found out Hiccup was alive, and he was holding him in his arms. It was kind of ironic that Hiccup was unconscious when Stoick displayed most obviously how much he loved him, but it was still so perfect. I love Stoick!!

I have to say that, before any trailers came out or anything, when I thought How to Train Your Dragon was going to suck (okay, so I sort of thought that up until it started getting good reviews. I just though that, once the trailer came out, it'd be sort of a guilty pleasure movie), I wanted to see it for Stoick. Why? Because Gerard Butler voiced him, of course. Yes, there are males who have obsessions with Gerard Butler...well, maybe there's only me, but I count as one, at least.
Anyways, I really liked Stoick (and not just because of his Butler-ness). I thought he was an interestingly layered character, even if he didn't appear as such at first. Plus, he just had a general sense of, as CJ put it, bad@$$ery.
