Well, it's official. With the in theater gross in America, How To Train Your Dragon has streamed past the competition to the #1 spot in Dragon movies!
It's beat Eragon, Dragonheart, and just about every other dragon focal pointed movie out there.

Really? Woot! Glad this movie is becoming well-known! Personally I think it's a masterpiece :3 If I make an OC for it, it must be good. Nah JK xDDD But it is a great movie and hopefully it gets even better! By the way, where did you find the statistic?

Box Office Mojo. It has all the up to date information about the American Box Office, as well as some foreign ones. This total is taken from solely the American box office but worldwide is has made more than TWICE as much as Eragon.

Well, of course it has! It was one of the best I've ever seen. Not to mention, it's probably the highest rated as well. Rotten tomatoes critics, which are notorious for their strict ratings, gave it a 93%, while many other dragon movies failed to achieve a rating above 80%. IMDB gave it an 8.3, which is also higher than many, if not all, other dragon-orientated movies.
Woot! Go Team HTTYD!!! The reassuring thing about the gross it picked up is that this may be an incentive for a sequel.

Yeah, it worked with Avatar, so why not with HTTYD? Everyone keep going to the theatre so we get a sequel!

Well, they DID buy the rights to the entire book series...so its possible we'll get a whole, like, fantasy saga or something, a la Harry Potter (hope that was a proper analogy)... I wanna read How To Be A Pirate now. Wonder how DeBlois and Sanders will handle translating it to the big screen?

A sequel? Squee! That's usually what I do after I see a good movie. As soon as the credits start rolling, I (or, I -want- to) jump up and throw my arms out and go "PART TWO PART TWO PART TWO! <3"
Do the rest of the books after HTTYD- the first novel- continue off of the original characters/setting, or does it jump all over the place? How To Be a Pirate doesn't sound like it'd involve dragons xD

From what I've heard, it does continue the plot from the first one. It's all one saga/continuous story, I think, which could possibly mean if the series continues to be financially successful (which it probably will), we'll have a few more movies of the HTTYD series.

The books are chronological order, each one is some of grownup!Hiccup's memiors. From what I understand, How To Be A Pirate involves Hiccup meeting Alvin the Treachorous, his nemesis. And finding treasure and stuff.
But I haven't read it yet, I just puruse the HTTYD Wikia and Wikipedia. ^^;

No, it's only at the most a year since stuff in the last book went down. I think...

I can only think of one good reason as to why this film has reached such an incredible grossing rate; YOU, you good, good folks after re-watching it so many times <33
