This is an idea that occurred to me about a common lack of skill shared by Astrid and Valka.
In Gift of the Night Fury, Astrid tried to make a new beverage and ended up making something completely revolting.
In the 2nd movie, Gobber mentions that Valka's culinary skills haven't improved in twenty years, telling Hiccup he got violent indigestion from her meatballs.
He later adds that when Valka is coming home, he'll do the cooking for her and Stoic, presumably so he won't have to eat anything she makes!
Given that they're both terrible at the culinary arts, I found it interesting that they had this commonality.
