Laying next to Colt, she knew she was a lucky lady. Not only to be alive, but to have a dragon like Colt laying next to her. His love and devotion saw her through even the most rockiest of seas, and as she took in the world around her it seemed more like a paradise, like some sort of wild fantasy had been awakened. She looked around herself, almost afraid to blink.. But when she did blink, and her eyes came back open, it was all still there. This was real, this was really happening, a real life paradise.. With her love.. Love. It sounded so nice in her mind.
She realized it had been a long time since she had seen the world like this, for all its beauty and wonders. And it was true; she had very rarely, if ever, taken the time to look around herself at the world around her. The last time she had done it was as a child, and the world had seemed scared of her then.. But here, and now, as the song birds chirped their song and the animals were so busy in their courtship and their own little love lives to notice them, it seemed wonderful. Her eyes happened to glance to the fish, who seemed to just lull in the water, until she got in and they swam away.. So elegantly.. Her soft purr invited Colt over, and she saw him come towards her. Relaxing in the water, she closed her eyes as a purr escaped her.. An odd rumbling made her open her eyes, to see a goofy looking Colt seeming to lounge in the waters. Smiling, and giggling softly, she held back her laughter and went under the water silently.. Sinking deep into its depths she found a whole new world, which she looked around at with wonder..
All around her were fish and wildlife she had never seen before, a seemingly un-ending paradise of its own. The ripples in the water came down from where the waterfall met the water.. Looking upwards, she could see Colts figure. She had only been underwater for mere seconds, but time seemed to have stood still for those few moments. Rising back up, she came out, surfacing just inches from Colt with affection in her eyes, her ears laid back as she gazed at him. She knew she looked beautiful, and she moved closer, nuzzling against his maw gently. Her maw pressed against his, a form of a kiss, before she sank back underneath the water, hoping he would follow… Come with me. She said softly through her link. It would be so perfect if she could share with him all of this, especially this new underwater paradise, a place few dragons ever saw. Slipping underneath the waters surface, her tail was the last thing to go under as she peered up at him with a gummy smile, her eyes silently inviting him to this new paradise.

He could tell she wanted to laugh as his muscles just turned to jelly at this moment, and he made that... rumbling noise. He definitely saw a smile emerge. Ah well. This is what happens when you make her cry. She'll find a way to get back at you. In a spectacular way. He narrowed his eyes, just to finish the moment: a night fury that's gargling, relaxing to a point where he can barely move and now looks like he's gone off to sleep! He looked back to her. He saw her slip into the water below. What was it she saw exactly? He widened his eyes. Well, whatever she saw certainly got her attention. She was under the water for a good few seconds now. He had the feeling she was going to pull a prank on him. She resurfaced very close to him. OK. Maybe not. He was quite grateful that she hadn't, as he probably would have gone red with embarrassment at that point. His scar was still out of her sight, which he was concious of. He recalled what her mother had said once more 'The more her mind goes back to those thoughts, those feelings, the harder it will be for her to recover.' So far, she was recovering nicely. Paws crossed. He knew he had to forget his memories as well, for his and her sake.
She had swum a little closer to him, before she nuzzled his maw. Then, he felt her maw against his. A true kiss. Time seemed to momentarily stop for him as she did this, before she disappeared below the water. Hopefully she couldn't see his jaw was agape slightly as she kissed him. He wouldn't be able to live that down if she had. He felt her link speak softly to him Come with me. Her elegant body slipped the water below once more. He managed to retrieve his relaxed body back into a usable state and sunk below the surface of the water. He'd never seen a place where the water was so clear. He still couldn't believe that he only spotted this place by chance. Below, he saw all kinds of creatures had never seen before, even when hunting fish. The fish he had was always the same; grey, long thin. And tasty, admittedly. Down here, he saw all kinds of fish that he wouldn't have seen before. There seemed to be every colour imaginable attached to these fish, and patterned with spots, stripes. Some just seemed to be covered in all kinds of colour with no rhyme or rhythm to it, a sort of 'hey, why not' sort of attitude. And he saw Selene, just lying in the water, relaxed, eyes closed. He swum round to her side and reciprocated the earlier kiss. His maw pressed against hers in this strange new world.
He saw the Sun was getting low in the sky now, and the sunlight receding from the sky above them. Hey, it's time to go. If you want, we can come back here tomorrow, or just explore around the area and find another gem? He didn't want to leave the pool, but he knew that if she didn't leave now those memories of flying at night with him when she lost control could come back to her. It was a risk he wasn't willing to take.

His seemingly sleepy figure was a little amusing, she had to admit one thing; it made her smile. To see such a strong dragon slumped and completely relaxed in an almost dream like state put a smile to her maw. It was a side of him she had never seen, what with him being so relaxed and almost vulnerable. Something told her not many had seen him like this, and a deep, inner curiosity made her wonder why.. For when she was younger, she had often let her silly side emerge quite frequently and easily. Even now it was still easy for her to show her more silly, more relaxed self.. Yet somehow now days she had a urge to keep her relaxed, silly side just for him. For when she was younger other dragons had taken notice of her silly antics, often lusting after her even though she had been so young. She had never realized it, but so many males would have given so much to be her mate. But none were like Colt. None of the males she had ever met, save for her love, had the same heart.. The same kindness.. The sheer love and devotion.. that Colt had shown her.
No, no more of that. She made an inner decision that from now on, the only one she would let see her silly side, or any part of her that allowed them to see her as beautiful, would be reserved for Colt. For she did not want anyone else gazing upon her any more, and if it took gaining a few scars to do so she would be happy to gain a scar or two to draw attention away from herself. For didn’t Colt deserve that? Yes, yes he did. He deserved to be hers forever, and hold her entire heart with no worries of ever losing it. And she knew he never, ever would lose her heart. She would always be loyal to him, always love him.. Even through the hard times.
As she sank into the waters and gazed at its paradise, she had the strong urge to be with Colt for an eternity, to share this paradise with him and come back here day after day until the end of time. And as she surfaced, nuzzling against him, the sparks flew in her veins, sending a shiver of delight down her spine… When her maw met his, feeling his soft maw against hers, her heart soared and her eyes fell closed.. There was no greater feeling in the world.. And swimming down to the paradise, she saw him follow, and come towards her.
His maw met hers and she pressed her maw against his passionately, wrapping her wings around him and swirling him around in the water, holding her maw pressed against his. She released, gazing at him, as he lifted his gaze and told her they had to go. Looking up at the heavens, with the sun starting to set.. She could see the heavens being painted from where she lay in the waters depths.. It almost appeared like a dream, one from which she never wished to leave. His words that they could return and explore more hidden gems made her smile, and she surfaced. A soft shake sent water around her, and she was once again dry enough to fly. Stretching her wings, she flexed them to make sure the water was off, and then gently took off to the skies. She hovered, waiting for Colt..
Colt.. Come look at this.. It’s.. amazing… She said softly, her gaze on the horizon.. She was in the air, just above the canopy.. She flew higher for a better view.. And what she saw made her heart sing. It was the perfect sunset, with a deep orange color at the horizon, which spread upwards into shades of pink and red, illuminating the clouds with its glorious colors.. Colt.. Are you seeing this? It's.. It’s wonderful.. She said softly through her link, and flew up a little, soaring through a cloud.. The glow on the clouds, the soft light through the sky.. It was truly amazing... She wanted to stay in the air, just like this, in this moment, forever.. Little did she know darkness was not far off, and soon the color would fade to the dark night... She would have to get home soon, before the darkness sunk in. Yet she wanted to stay air borne, in the array of soft lights and colors forever. For now, she just enjoyed the paradise, unaware that it would soon be replaced by darkness.

She left water ahead of him; his muscles were still aching after creating that masterpiece. By the time she'd shaken herself dry and flown off he had only just managed to clamber out the water! He'd begun to shake himself dry when her link came through. Colt. As he was drying himself off he gazed up to where she'd flown to. She was gliding over the forest canopy, waiting for him to take off. He spread his wings, gave them another shake and shot off after her. She was staring into the sunset as he pulled up behind her. Colt.. Are you seeing this? It's.. It’s wonderful.. He saw what she was looking at. The sunset. It was something out of this world. He sensed her fly up a little higher, trying to take it all in. He was also caught out by this view. He'd been able to fly for a few years now; why is it he'd never just...taken it in? Why was it he never took the time out to enjoy life more, rather than just survive in it? He made a vow to himself to do this more. With her. He saw her push up through a cloud, without thinking he followed her up. He found her motionless, barring her wings. She was stunned by the natural beauty of it all. He was as well.
This moment took him by surprise. He looked her now mature body and began mulling something over. Earlier, when he found her she was looking at those hatchlings. She had this look of longing. Longing to be a Mum. It had taken her mind off of that night, and filled her with something. A desire. A hope. Something to aim for in the future. It hopefully wasn't much of a desire right now, but what about in a year or two? Was she telling him something? He gulped at the prospect. He didn't want to be a dad yet! Yes, later down the line but they were still so young! He wanted to explore the world around them more first with her; not settle down so soon! To his horror, he realised something. Because he was caught unaware of the sunset, he hadn't realised he'd formed a link this entire time! To say this was by far the most embarrassing thing to happen to him would be an incredible understatement. He could actually feel his cheeks begin to glow a light red. He gave her an apologetic look before he dove down and away. He hoped she would forgive him after that.
He didn't move at full speed; he wanted her to tail him back to her clan...

Flying through the clouds was a wonderful thing, and an even greater feeling. It was like she was dancing on air, and could go anywhere and do anything. Her eyes fell closed as she just took in the feeling of the moist clouds running over her wings. Seeing Colt fly up, she smiled, twirling about as her gaze went back to the sunset. This was truly wonderful. Her gaze went back to him, she could see the soft expression on his features. But.. as she was flying she sensed hints of emotions and words coming through her link.. Words like hatchling and.. daddy.. She turned her wings, hovering to look at him as he seemed in a panic. Smiling a little, she pretended not to notice. Realizing he must have seen her watching the hatchlings she couldn’t help but giggle a little, before she saw his apologetic look as he flew off.
Flying after him, she sped up so she was alongside him, and moved closer to him until.. She let one wing fall over him as she flew her body so close to his that she could feel her skin brush against his. She looked over to him. Hey handsome.. She said softly, and twirled so she was underneath him, letting her lips press against his as her wings folded.. letting her free fall in a diving position, in hopes to let him dive with her. She let out her wings and evened out herself, landing in the center of her clans territory. Flicking her tail, she smiled at him. She seemed to day dream for a few moments, curling in some bushes, not realizing that the sun was almost finished setting. It was only then that the last rays of sunlight left the heavens, and darkness crept into the forest.
Colt… Came her voice in her link as her eyes shot open. Her gaze went to the skies. The beautiful landscape was gone, the land was pitch black. She had only been dozing for a few moments.. But where was Colt? Her heart started to thunder as she lost sight of him, the darkness had come so quickly she hadn’t noticed it was getting dark. But now the forest was pitch black, and her heart thundered as the fear crept into her heart. Her breathing quickened, her mind told her that she was back at her clans territory, with her fellow night furies.. But she couldn’t see any of them very well. It was only then that a low rumble met her ears… Colt thank God I thought.. But there was no answer in her link, she squinted, backing up a step as the sound of breathing became apparent. Colt..
But the night fury before her was not Colt, nor any night fury from her clan.. Rather he was one of the spies, from a rival clan.. Who happened to be putting his duties aside as his eyes boar into her; and as she could see the figure of him, a huge night fury with a muscular figure, she knew she was in danger..
This night fury was bigger then even Colt, his scars from battles were all over his body, and one bad one over his eye. A smirk was on his lips, his teeth out as he came towards her, before tackling her. Colt! She screamed in her link, but there was no answer.. As the male ran his maw over her, running his tongue over her skin she cringed.. Get off.. Go away.. Please.. Stop.. She silently hoped that someone would notice, but it seemed at the moment no one had seen what was going on. She had never felt so alone.

It was dark. He was most of the way back to the her clan, assuming she was behind him. She thought he heard a link fair distance away from him. Hey handsome.. well, at least she wasn't mad at him and he slowed down a little more, so she could begin to catch up. He waited a little longer. A little longer... Nothing. This was unusual; completely out of character for her. As he turned his head, he assumed she would be only a matter of moments away from him. She wasn't. In fact, she wasn't even behind him. She'd... vanished into the night. Oh no. No, no, no no no... she must have remembered the fall when she last flew with me. He used all his strength to turn and arrow back towards where he last saw hear. Where he last heard her. She said 'hello handsome'? Why would she say that? It was as dark as his skin now It also meant she would almost be impossible to see from above. They were called night fury's for a reason.
He glided lower down towards the trees. This brought back memories. A sense of déjà vu became apparent to him. He'd been through this before. The same feelings came back to him; uncertainty, guilt, worry...why? Just why did this have to happen to him? He felt adrenaline surge through his veins. Good. Let's use it. Silencing the doubts he had, he picked up the pace and focused in on every little sound. Every little bit of light that came off the ground suddenly became a lot brighter for him. A hunter's instinct took over his mind as he searched for her. This hunter's instinct was something that wasn't taught, but instead it was only harnessed in times of need to those who's role it was in life to find. To kill. This instinct however, was something he was able to...control; manipulate more thanks to Selene. He'd developed a protective instinct for her long before now. These instincts became intertwined, and allowed him to 'track' her a lot more effectively for now. He didn't know how it had come about, but it didn't matter. He had to use it while he could.
He picked up the scent of something familiar to him. It wasn't her scent, but it was of another night fury. Perhaps he would know where she had gone to? He wasted no time in heading towards the night fury. As he closed in, he detected another scent. This was hers. He used his superior wingspan to his advantage he soared across the sky; nothing was going to stop him reaching her. Why was it that this night fury was next to hers? What was happening? He wasn't sure, but he didn't like it. Not now, not ever. Her scent was getting stronger by the second; so was his. He decided against calling out for her; if he had her hostage, then it could end badly for her if he did. Or for him if it decided to ambush him. He shot over one of the canopies, and in the corner of his eye, he saw her. And him. He was pinning her to the ground using his weight. He must have been twice the size of her. And a good bit larger than him. He twisted in the air, and thought about firing a plasma shot. He thought better of it; he'd be able to incapacitate the beast, but it may hurt her. It wasn't worth the risk.
He made up his mind. He dived down to the ground, picking up every bit of speed he got muster. He had to get him off her. He saw him trying to run his maw over her, running his tongue over her skin. His blood boiled with anger, and his mind reddened with a rage he had never felt. This beast may be bigger, but I'm better. He spread his wings and tackled this beast off her, similar to a shoulder barge. The spy was completely unaware of what happened and could only manage a yelp before he rolled over many times on the ground. Eventually he stopped rolling. Colt however maintained control and came to a controlled stop from an incredible speed, using his superior wings acting as an air brake and tilting one to spin him round, ready to strike. He was ready to kill this beast. He felt his throat begin to light up as it had done when he killed that Monstrous Nightmare, and he threw what must have been at least 7 bolts in quick succession towards him. Each one landed just before his helpless body, kicking up dust and debris until all there was, was a night fury laid out across the ground behind a wall of dust, debris and fire. Colt had spared his life. An act of mercy for a soul that didn't deserve it. He saw the injured night fury struggle to limp away, and they made eye contact. The spy knew he was beaten. He must have had a broken leg, as he could only hobble at best. Colt wasn't finished with him, and gave him the only warning he'd get from him. He turned him on his back to which the spy could only give a small cry of pain, and Colt growled viciously. His eyes were narrow slits of gold. His ears were pulled back. I've spared your life whelp. Get out of my sight. I won't tell you again. You know what will happen if I do. He followed this up with another blood curdling growl. This loss would be just another scar or two on the spy's body as he limped away. He didn't look back to Colt. Or Selene.
When he sensed the beast had disappeared, he ran back to Selene. He knew she was distressed; understandably so. He made sure to use a soothing tone in his link to her, It's alright. He's gone, You're alright, I'm here... He put his wing round her as a way to comfort her. He made sure to keep his scar out of her sight once more as he nuzzled her gently... he only hoped he hadn't mentally scarred her.

From the moment the darkness had fallen a wonderful evening had turned into something that could only be made in nightmares. As the male kept on with his advances, she squirmed beneath him. Get off, go away! She screamed in her link, fear overwhelming her mind. The male seemed to sense it and growled to silence her cries. A whimper escaped her as she closed her eyes tightly.. Somehow, he had gotten off of her.. What was happening was not made aware to her, for her mind was lost in its own nightmare. Flashes of the male coming towards her, of his touch on her skin, of what she knew he was going to do to her.. It all made her shake in fear, frozen as she lay there, too scared to get away. It was only when she heard a crash and felt a wing around her that a scream came through her link, unaware that it was Colt.
Don’t! Get off! Get away! She screamed, before she heard Colt’s soothing voice… The tears had come to her eyes as she finally opened her eyes, seeing the male flying off and Colt there, holding her.. She shuddered as a half scream and half sob escaped her, before she melted into Colts chest. Her cries finally brought attention from a guard, who came to see her and quickly knew what had happened. With a snarl several night furies flew off in the direction the spy had gone. Selene closed her eyes, trying to block out the flashes running through head..
And as time passed, a few days passing, she had nightmares.. Finally, they had faded, as one day she came out of the cave to see the same hatchlings, having grown, playing around. Looking away, she knew she was lucky. If that male had had any more time with her, she would be that mother. Only they wouldn’t be Colts; they would have been that monsters offspring. She shuddered to think what would happen then.. Would Colt have still loved her, if she had been forced to bear the monsters hatchlings? She looked away, thinking again of how he hadn’t wanted to be a father yet.
Wandering off from the clans territory, she flew one night, to the waterfalls. She needed time to think, to sort out her mind. Somehow the night flight had seemed almost pleasant, and the waterfall at night seemed magical. She gazed at its waters, remembering how her and Colt had swam there, shared their first kiss beneath its depths. What did he think of her now, now that another beast had touched her? Her heart told her he still loved her, but in her mind she couldn’t see how he still would want her… now that she had been touched like that by another night fury. She’d seen the way he looked at her, and it made her wonder if something was different now. Was he different.. or was she different? Or was she still the same dragon deep down, lost in her own pain? Looking up, she realized she wasn’t alone, and she could only assume it was Colt. Who else would know to find her here? Her gaze returned absentmindedly to the water, as she quietly asked him.. Colt.. do you still.. do you still love me.. She looked to the heavens. I love you, I’ll always love you. But if that male had done what he wanted.. I’d.. She trailed off, she couldn’t finish. She looked down.. What would have happened if I would have had to bear that monsters hatchlings? Finally the tears came and she walked towards him. Just... hold me… Tell me everything will be okay.. She moved to be as close to him as possible, the tears shaking her shoulders. I want this to be forever.. I want us.. to be forever.. Promise me somehow, someway.. We’ll always have each other…

Don't! Get off! Get away! She hadn't opened her eyes, thinking he was that beast holding her. He held her close to his chest. She was safe. She was OK, but she didn't know that yet. He was holding her, doing all he could to get her to listen. Anything. But, all he could do...was hold her. And wait. Wait for her to open her eyes and then she'd know she was safe. He saw guards come flying past and gave them a rough bearing as to where he last saw the beast. He caught him flying off; a tough dragon if there was one. The guards gave a snarl and move off to pursue the weakened spy. He would have assisted them, but he knew he Selene needed him now more than ever. All he could do was repeat to her that it was OK, that she was safe. Eventually, at last, she opened her eyes and saw his face. He knew he looked worried for her. She pushed her face into his chest, and he held her there until she was ready to go back home. He made sure to be as close to her as he could.
He could sense she was worried. That spy had tried to do something evil, and it haunted her thoughts for days. And nights. He made sure to be by her side as often as he could. To reassure her thoughts. Put her mind at rest. That they were as close as ever, no matter what. He saw her doubts about this though. She needed more than words from him to assure her of this, but it would have to wait. She kept having nightmares of it. Every time over the next few nights she was scared of what might have happened; she had a fear in her heart. He was by her side to comfort her and put that fear to bed every time. He knew she didn't mean to, but he kept catching her thinking about that night, and how she thought it had changed his feelings towards her. She was dead wrong. One of these revealed why she kept thinking this. It was because she picked up his thoughts back just before that fateful sunset. About him not ready to be a dad. And if she had been a mother now, would he still love her the way he did now because of that? He didn't even give that a second thought: no matter what happened between them, they would be as close now as they had been then. Even if it had turned out differently.
It was a few days since he had to tackle that spy off of her. To protect her once more. He had been with her all day once again, assuring her things were just as they were. He'd gone away for a moment to find a meal, but when he returned she wasn't there. It was dark. As dark as it had been when she was caught. His protective instinct once more took over him, and he knew where she could be. He spread his wings, and pursued her to where they had truly bonded. He remembered he had said he would find her another gem of a place. There was a tall mountain in the distance, though until now he hadn't thought much of it. It would have to have a spectacular view up there, even thought it would probably be freezing if they stayed up there for too long. He knew it would have to wait until morning before if they went over there. There were also a few caverns near where the island ended. However, to get there they would have to fly over where she had witnessed him get shot. Maybe somewhere later down the line. The scar was definitely less visible now. It didn't give him any grief.
He saw her elegant figure overlooking where they had kissed. He slowed his speed and glided quietly over. Her ears caught onto the fact he was here but she didn't look concerned about that. She must know that only he knew she'd have been here. He knew what she was thinking about, even though she hadn't said anything to him. He slowly circled low over hear, before coming to rest next to her. He nuzzled her maw. A link opened between them. Colt.. do you still.. do you still love me.. To answer this, he put his maw against hers, as she looked up to the sky. Now was the time to put her fear to bed. She only had to ask that question... What would have happened if I would have had to bear that monsters hatchlings? Bingo. He recalled what he had thought a few days ago, about how it didn't change anything. Selene... you know that I would always love you, no matter what. I would have been by your side even if you were a mother now. He saw tears fill her eyes and she pulled him towards her. She asked him to hold him. To reassure her that everything was OK and they'd be forever. He wrapped his wings around her and put his maw on hers once more as an answer to this. She needed him now more than ever before.
They were motionless as he consoled her and put her right again. He wanted to be able to gain her trust about what he said. He nodded towards that masterpiece he made earlier. A few bits of grass were growing over where he had drawn her eyes, though the rest of the drawing was still as clear as before. You see the drawing I did of you? If I didn't love you, why would I draw that? He nuzzled her. Do you remember that I said I'd find you another gem? Tomorrow, I'll show you another one I found... He gave a her gummy, goofy smile...

Sitting there, her mind spinning with questions about what might have happened, what could have happened.. and what could come of it, she sat with her gaze moving up towards the heavens. The touch of her lovers maw against her head brought a small smile to her own lips, and as she asked the question as to what would have happened if she had become a mother, his answer filled her with something her heart had been looking for, yearning for, searching for and doubting all this time.. But now it finally had it; closure. Finally, she could put the bad experience of what that beast had done to her out of her mind, and.. as she turned to look up at him as he showed her the drawing, insisting his love with his own affectionate tones.. She felt her mind ease of worries that had once burdened it down with a heavy weight, as if the troubles were finally easing.
It was the simple closure, the final realization that nothing could break their love for each other. The reassurance of knowing that his love for her was stronger then whatever might happen in this life time ran through her as he told her he had another gem to show her tomorrow. A smile finally lit her face, as her troubles were forgotten. Gazing at him in the moonlight, at his gummy smile and his masculine figure, she felt a familiar desire build within her, along with a familiar love and affection that could only grow stronger by the day. Wordlessly, she moved to tackle him, her maw pressing against his as she closed her eyes..
Paws wrapping around his shoulders, she moved to roll him so he was atop her, her wings wrapping around him. A soft purr rose within her as she gazed into his eyes, before letting them fall closed and nuzzling against him, her maw finding his, pressing against his own maw in a fiery embrace. When she finally had to break for air, she ran her maw over his neck, breathing in his scent like she had done on the first night they had met.. Tenderly, her maw nipped at his neck.. Love had never felt so good.

He still couldn't believe how he had met her, all that time ago. Honestly, it wasn't too long ago in the scheme of things. He could still remember the sense of fear in her as he first watched her. The fear in himself as he approached her for the first time. The rest of of it was quite hazy, but some bits still stood out. Him killing that nightmare. Taking that shot. Dying. His scar was there, though it was rather dull now. And she could now accept it was there. The waterfall, where she had to love him again, and protect her sanity from lapsing into what had happened to him until she was ready to go accept it. And that drawing. He made sure that art was still as clear now as it was when he drew it. For her. Speaking of which... He saw her behind him. She was still quite early in her pregnancy. He put his maw against hers, and gave a low growl. Not an aggressive growl, but an affectionate one. He had made many a sacrifice for her. She had gone through a lot for him in return.
The days rolled into months. She laid a perfect set of hatchlings, and the first thing he felt, was pride. He had a family again. After so, so long... he nuzzled her gently as he watched at the life she had given to the world. That they had given to the world. This was truly a perfect moment in his life. It was something he had not dared to hope for. Just in case of...well...anything. He knew not to take anything for granted in life, but he made sure to cherish it. To cherish her. And now, his family... he vowed to protect it no matter what the cost to him, like had done for Selene...

That night had led to many great things for them, and after that night their lives had really begun. For shortly after she became pregnant, and she glowed like never before as her belly grew. One day, sitting next to Colt as he nuzzled against her, she smiled at her belly, realizing how far they had come. She could still remember the night she had met him, and she could now look back on their past without fear, or nightmares. Instead, she could look upon it and see how far they have come. Colts scar, although faint, was more like a war mark now, something she actually found attractive about him now days.
And as time went on, she laid a clutch of eggs, and from them young hatchlings were born. They had the same strength as Colt, the girls having the same elegance as Selene herself. And one day, gazing at them, she couldn’t have been prouder. One young female, who was the spitting image of Selene, save for her eyes.. for she had her fathers golden eyes rather then her mothers blue ones.. was scampering about with her littermates.
Mom, can we go out and play? Pleaaaaaassseeee… she gave her the best set of puppy dog eyes she could, and Selene laughed. Alright, be back by sun down. The cheers of the hatchlings as the female led the way into the forest answered her. Selene called after them And stay in the territory!
---
The day was young, and in the forest was a young night fury female, running on her skinny legs as fast as she could. Her tiny wings were folded on her back tightly, her body bloody with the recent battle. It was the beginning of many to come. At this age, young Luna couldn’t possibly understand why her clan treated her so poorly, nor that she was a slave. Her entire life she had known fear; fear of those who ruled her clan, fear of the ones they would pit her against, fear of even the night furies her own age. For there was no respect for a slave, not even from the night furies her own age.. nor from her parents.
Her parents were stronger night furies, and because they had produced a runt, they were sentenced to slavery as well. The runt? That would be Luna.. A small, pitch black night fury with green eyes, a small wingspan, and an incredibly skinny figure, which if one got close enough.. one could see her rib cage sticking clearly out.
As she ran she became aware of laughter and hid, seeing glimpses of a female night fury running around the forest. She seemed happy.. Something this young night fury had never known, nor had she ever heard sincere laughter.. or laughed at a sincere joke.. The way they talked and moved was foreign to her, for this one female didn’t seem like she was ready to attack anything.. Yet she was still throwing herself around growling and making a fuss. She tried to run to another hiding spot, fearing this one would be discovered. The female seemed to walk right by her and she cringed, watching as most of them walked away. Phew.. She said to herself in her mind, but didn’t realize that not all of them had been fooled. Her cover was about to be blown.

Colt watched on as Selene lead their hatchlings into the woods. He was content just to watch on as their family explored the world around them. He had noticed something she hadn't. One of the hatching was staying with Colt. Whip. The name he'd given him. In honour of his brother. He was much like his brother; the same wings, same physique. He seemed to have better senses as well. Colt remembered that Whip was his older brother and that he was a stronger version of him at the time. His brother may have been gone for a good while, but he was not forgotten. Nor was Julienne. Selene and co. hadn't gone too far; she was still strolling towards the forest. There was time for Whip to catch up with them. He gave him a small nudge with his nose. It's alright, go on. He always seemed to need the confirmation from him, before he did anything. Hopefully he'd grow out of that. He sprinted off as fast as his small legs could manage, and was slowly gaining grown on his brothers and sisters. He was definitely going to be the strongest of the litter; none of the others would have been able to make up ground like that at his age.
-----
He was running as fast as he could after his family, leaving his dad behind. He felt his heart beat quicken as he gained on them, one step at a time. He was on his way at least now. To explore the unknown. He found his always needed some reassurance from his dad before he could do something new. It was comforting to him. He was only a matter of feet behind the other now, and slowed down. He quickly turned his head back to see whether he was still there. All he saw were trees, bushes, wildlife. He shrugged at this and looked ahead again. He was happy being in the presence of his brothers and sisters. And his mum. His mum stopped while his brothers and sisters bounded ahead, exploring what was around them. So did he. And stay in the territory! He rolled his eyes. The forest floor had lots of things growing out of it. Flowers, bushes, trees and more. It smelt absolutely fantastic! They had all gone ahead of him, looking every which way and doing some rough and tumble stuff. They didn't hear something he had.
It didn't smell like it was something from this forest. In fact, it smelt foreign. He felt something change in him. He... he seemed to be able to see everything more clearly. Listen to the world more. How? How did he do to manage that? His heart beat quickened once again. They were quite far ahead of him now, though it didn't concern him. The wind blew towards him. It gave him a direction. A direction to find this foreign scent. That scent was in front of him. He put his ears back, teeth out. He was actually really excited; he didn't know he could do do all this! He narrowed his eyes, to see whether that helped at all. It did. It helped his eyes pick up more light. OK, a little further ahead. Further. Further. The wind was very kind in that it was still blowing towards him. Now though, the scent was gone. Why was that? Had it vanished? He felt his teeth retract and his ear roll back up. He widened his eyes. Eh? What gives?! He snapped his head left and right. Where wa-. He saw it. It was another...night fury? It wasn't part of his family, that's for sure. He looked at it with a confused expression etched on his face. He felt very, very nervous right now. Who...who...who are you? He sat back on his haunches; she was no older than he...
-----
There was carnage behind him as he used the last of his energy to push himself into the tall grass ahead. Fire. Smoke. Death. He could smell it, and fear was locked into his heart. He was barely the age of a toddler but he was experiencing something few night fury's would be able to get through even if they were much, much older. A group of night fury's from a rival clan had just taken out his own kind. His entire clan was gone. He was the runt of his litter, but he couldn't hear the calls of any of his clan. Only the calls of those who'd silenced his clan's. He had to keep moving, even though it hurt his body to do so. Belly low, small wings tucked in he could only manage to press on further and further into what seemed a never ending field of grass. How he wished he could fly right now; everyone except him was at least able to spread their wings by now. He couldn't. Not yet.
He just kept moving forward. His mind kept telling him the same thing. Keep going. Keep going. Keep going. He must have done this for a good few hours, as it was near nightfall when had to stop. He couldn't think straight; he needed something to eat. Anything. He saw a some running water ahead of him. In his panic, he hadn't realised something. He had a nasty cut along his small tail. He wasn't sure when he picked it up, but now he knew of it it hurt. Badly. He crawled over to the water. A fish had managed to beach itself. A lucky break if he ever saw one. He wolfed it down, and then put his tail in the water. The cool feeling on his tail helped immensely. The moon was high in the sky now, and he was worn out. He had to get some rest. With his tail still in the water, he curled up near the bank, and drifted off into a sleep. The night was cold, but he didn't care...

Selene moved through the forest, looking back around as she realized that Whip had not followed as closely. She could still make out Colt’s figure, before she spotted a smaller figure darting towards them quickly. The speed he had in his pace was surprising, and it made her smile a little. It seemed he would grow to be strong, perhaps even stronger then Colt. Some young night fury lady would be very lucky one day, she thought, but made sure to keep her thoughts out of her link. The kids were to young to hear about love and such. Much too young; even now they scampered around, and her beautiful daughter Felice tackled her, play biting her ear. She had the same great agility, and a lot of strength for her age too. Nearly as much as her brother Whip, which was surprising being that she was a female. Selene was quickly realizing these hatchlings would soon be much bigger and stronger then she or Colt ever were or could be. Together they had produced a strong litter… Stronger, she realized, then even their own parents. Her head suddenly looked up, pupils turning to slits as she counted the scents in her nostrils. Mentally she tallied them in her head, relieved until she realized.. Where’s Whip? Her hatchlings seemed to pause, looking at her and shrugging. Selene’s mother instincts took over; where was her Whip at? She had to find him; fast!
---
The tiny dragon hid in the bushes, crouching low. She watched as the group of night furies wandered off, walking almost right over her. There was one bigger night fuy, who was a good distance off. Instinct told her that she was too far off to have noticed her. The young ones, though, were close.. Too close.. Thankfully, none of them seemed to notice her and scampered off, disappearing into the brush. A sigh of relief escaped her, as she temporarily let her guard down; for they were gone, and now she could go back to hiding.. Hiding from her clan, until she got a chance to escape… But a scent came to her senses and made her whole body tense. Ducking down quickly as he sniffed the air for her, she shivered as she watched him. This was bad, oh this was so bad.. But wait, had he given up? He looked confused; good maybe he had lost his hold of her scent, now she could get away before he-
As she had just turned to dart off she felt something form that was foreign to her.. It felt like suddenly her emotions were being opened up into another emotion, or rather a whole set of them.. Emotions that were not her own… What the heck was going on? She backed up, before a voice in her mind made her jump nearly out of her skin. It was obvious she had never felt or known what it was like to link minds, and she stared at him.. How.. How did you..
But his question rang in her mind of who was she.. Umm, the question is.. who are.. you? She looked to him, hearing a roar from nearby. Crud; her clan, they must have caught her scent. A sudden fear formed in her, not for herself for once but for this young boy standing in front of her. If they found him, they’d surely kill him. The roar echoed again through the land, a haunting sound if there was one. Her gaze lifted to the skies as she cringed. I.. I gotta go.. She looked back to him, before running off a distance. Turning back, she finally made a desperate plea with him. Go, get as far away from here as possible.. Go! Now! With that she ran off, disappearing into the brush.. She knew what she had to do; she had to distract them, make them run in a different direction. That way they wouldn’t find those night furies… or that young night fury boy. In her mind, she whispered. I’m sorry.. Little did she know she was too far away now for that message to go through.
---
Felice was scampering ahead, after her mother had asked where her brother was. Relax, he probably just went off to play! She said, shrugging as she led the way in the search party. The other hatchlings returned home, and Selene and her led the search party. Her being the one with some of the best senses, besides Whip, she would be able to find him easier then the others. And she did! There he was, right by mom and dad’s old drawing.. She rushed towards him, before coming to a screeching halt at the clearing. It.. wasn’t him..
No, it wasn’t even close to him, this night fury was smaller, weaker, and looked half way beaten to death. A fear crept in her heart as she called. Mom! And for once the fear wasn’t one of her own childish fears, but a fear for if this young night fury would survive. She went towards him. Hey.. She said softly. She sat a short distance off. Don’t worry, we’ll take care of you now. She said softly, a small smile on her maw.

He watched as Whip disappeared into the forest with the rest of his family. He rolled onto his haunches as Whip darted out of sight. Out of earshot to the others, he thought out loud to himself: And to think I didn't want to be a dad yet. He realsied he'd forgotten something. He'd knew he had been meaning to do it, but due to recent events he hadn't got round to it. What was it... He seemed to zone out as he shifted through his memories. It was something he'd vowed to do... but what was it? He'd actually had made quite a few vows in his life. That was it! He remembered the night that they had first kissed; it was that drawing he made for her. He'd promised to keep it it as crisp as the day he first drew it. He stretched out his wing, and was lifted into the air. When he was younger, it took him about 10 or so minutes to reach that waterfall. Now, it less than half that.
He came in towards the waterfall as he'd done ever since he first found it, and landed on the familiar terrain. He saw a young night fury there, lying on the ground. Was he hurt? Or worse? A protective instinct took over as he closed in on him. He was a hunter by nature, but a dad by heart. Hang on? Is that...Felice? He caught her link. She was aiming it toward the stricken , but he picked it up all the same. She was still learning about how to use it, so whatever she said in that link could be picked up by anyone. Hey.. She must have caught him moving in on the injured child, as she sent another one to him. Don’t worry, we’ll take care of you now. Colt was proud of his daughter; the lessons he and Selene were trying to teach them were sinking in. About to care for life when they could, and only take it when absolutely necessary. Colt was right by him now. He wasn't awake, but he wasn't dead either, and his breathing wasn't laboured. He was however shivering. Had he slept here all night? He spotted a deep cut on his tail, even though it was in the water. That would need time to heal. His wings weren't as developed either for someone his age; he looked as old as Whip. He was probably the runt of his litter, though that begged the question: where were his parents? His clan? He gave him a gentle nudge, to try and awaken him. He was obviously having a bad dream as he was twitching. Wake up, cub. You're safe...
-----
She was afraid of him. Afraid of them. Afraid of what was around her. He felt a sorrow run through him. She'd obviously had ventured outside her clan's borders, but why? Why do that unguided? Alone? The link he sent to her was in a hushed tone, as he knew that if his mother found out he was talking to another night fury... all it did to her was make her jump. Had she not ever tried to talk to someone before? With a link? He discarded this line of thought when he looked at her. She was thin. Really thin. As if she wasn't cared for by her parents. Her ribcage was actually visible to him, though he didn't notice that at first. He felt pity for her. Even at this age, he knew she had a hard start. He was still working on maintain a link, as she had begun to ask a question, but he couldn't tell what it was. Hopefully she didn't notice.
He realised she didn't have much time, as his mother called for him. It sounded more like a roar than a call. She managed to send him a panicky link back to him I.. I gotta go.. He knew why. Trespassers were not welcome, no matter the age. She sprinted off away from where he had seen her, though before she was out of sight, she sent him another link. It was faint. Really faint, but it came through. I’m sorry... What? Did his mishear that?! Sorry? Sorry for what? Question after question circled his mind Who is she? What was she doing here? Why was she...sorry? She was gone; away from the clan's border and back into her own clan's territory. He could hear his family approaching him. He was going to have to answer a lot of questions when he got back...
-----
It had been a cold, cold night. He could feel himself shaking, and his tail was numb from the coldness of the water. He could feel the sunlight warm his body though. That was something. He found he was struggling to move; it was like he was frozen in place. A fear was struck into his heart. Would be stuck like this? Forever? He struggled. He struggled to move his body. Twisting, turning, trying all he could think of to move. A female voice came into his head; it scared him to a point where he couldn't take in what it said. It sounded soft, though he couldn't make out who had sent it. He struggled harder. Something from that voice came through. It was muffled, but it was something he could understand. ...take care of you. Wait, what? Did this thing mean...
He felt the nose of a night fury against his side. This seemed to stir his body at last into waking up. He opened his eyes to see a male night fury looking at him. Wake up, cub. You're safe... What the...? He rolled over and started to sprint away when it struck him. When she said they were going to take care of me... he actually felt embarrassed. He stopped himself running. He wasn't sure about this, but if they wanted to kill him, they probably would have done long before now. The pain is his tail came back. The water had stopped it bleeding, but it was raw. He was still unsure as to what was happening. Who..who are you? He felt weak. Really weak. He quickly collapsed and passed out...

Time passed since the day the cubs first explored the world, and ever since then life had been very different. Selene and Colt had taken in a new hatchling, and he had been so young at the time, that now she feared he.. nor her own hatchlings.. could remember that he was not their real sibling. She hadn’t the heart to tell them otherwise, for they always seemed so happy to play together and be around one another. But something else had caught her attention as she was watching her now teenage cubs.. A desperate cry that filled the land, one that struck fear in her heart; for she knew the sound of that voice, for it had been the one solid in her life ever since she could remember.. Long before Colt had come along this individual had loved her and guided her, and yet she had taken her for granted all this time. Now, rushing to the caves, she saw her..
Tessa.
She was laying there on her side, looking weaker then usual. Her once strong body was frail, and little did she know but she had eaten poison berries left by a rogue clan… Their intentions were to kill off the leader without anyone guessing. Little did anyone know they would be successful, for who would think that one would poison an already ailing night fury? The sad truth; no one… Deep down as Tessa lay there, she knew she was defeated, that no one would know the truth..
---
Tessa lay there, her sides heaving, as each breath made her body shudder. Selene.. She managed softly through her link.. Her once strong body was failing her; she knew this all too well. How foolish she had been to eat the berries, but it didn’t matter now.. She knew she had only moments left, before her time would be up in this world.
Selene approached her, laying around her.. Her pleas with her came through her link, her fears and sorrow growing in Tessa’s mind. Hush child.. She whispered through her link.. Even now, as her body started to become painfully aware that it was shutting down, she tried to be the comforting soul she always had been. But fear comes with death, and as a pain struck her heart she felt the fear grow within her. Gasping for air, her body jerked in pain.. She fought a scream in her link, but it came out anyway through her link and as a blood curdling roar.
---
Selene didn’t know what happened, but she knew somehow her mother had reached her final stage of life without her even realizing it.. She begged for her to hold on, to stay with her.. But it was no use.. She wrapped her wings around her, the tears quickly rising in her as her mothers soothing words came to her.. Yet soon a fear came through her link.. Colt! She screamed through her link, sobbing as her mother began to writhe in pain. She wrapped her paws around her, trying to soothe her. Trying to ease her mind of the fear, and let her last moments be peaceful… But her once strong mother seemed to no longer realize where she was.. This was it, she was truly dying.. Selene held her tight, screaming for Colt.
---
Tessa felt herself losing a grip on her vision, she could see the lights dimming.. She struggled to open her eyes wider, her nostrils further as the pain faded.. Only to come again, this time stronger in her heart like a thousand knives.. Fear overtook her as she screamed, screamed in her link and fought, trying to fight this death from taking her.. But it was no use.. For once death claims its stake there is no going back.. Finally she could fight no more, only lay as shuddering breathes came in and out, her energy draining.. Her body writhed in pain as her final moments approached.. Blood seeped from her nostrils, she could taste it in her mouth.. The worst pain of her life coursed through her, as her own weak heart beat pounded in her ears.. With all her strength, she turned her head to look at her daughter, and run her tongue over her, before it all went black…
---
Selene could only watch as her mother lost her grip on life, and as her tongue ran over her one last time it shattered her heart as her head fell to the ground, her body becoming limp.. Jumping off of her, Selene couldn’t believe it.. Her mother was gone..
---
Felice had heard the commotion and seen what was happening.. Grandma.. She questioned, before a new scent came to her nostrils.. In the midst of it, a young night fury female, looking bloody and beaten, had come to the land. It was poor timing, she had to admit, and she was a tad infuriated that the female dared to enter their lands at a time like this.. She ignored her and went to see her grandma Tessa, only to find her mother laying over her limp body.. Running off in sheer horror, she called for the one she had always been closest to… Her little brother; she called for him, for anyone desperately. Lately she had been closer to Grinch then usual, and it had been nice to be near him, yet she didn’t know why. Somehow she just wanted his comfort, his wing around her.. She needed him, now more then ever.
---
Running, running as fast as she could… The slave knew she had to escape.. They had told her about a mission she would have to do, to win her freedom. But it meant betraying her own kind… Without realizing it, she ran to a clans territory.. not realizing this was the same clan which her own cruel family had targeted. Shivering, she collapsed.. She could hear a roar, something was going on.. With what strength she could muster she crawled into the brush. A female had seen her but ran off without saying anything to her. It seemed it was a bad time.. But these night furies.. they looked oddly.. familiar.. Shaking her head, she convinced herself she was just being silly. She’d almost never seen another night fury outside her clan, so how could she possibly know these dragons? Shivering, she looked around herself.. Perhaps they could help her, take her in.. Maybe this was a chance at the new life she had been yearning for.
