I LOVED IT!
Dream Works did good on this one. I adored Toothless and his catlike behavioir. He was my fave of the dragons. My fave human was the boy twin. I must have an icon of him! He reminded me of my persona *points to icon*
The story was great, animation was flawless humour was epic!
My two big beefs:
Astrid and Hiccup flying on Toothless reminded me of A Whole New World from Aladin.
The dragons becoming mounts for the vikings. They went from one ruler to another set of...thou I suppose the vikings treated them better...but I wanted to see the dragon's be free.
All in all.

Everything you said I completely agree with Zen!
I loved it too, saw it in 2D and it must be absolutely amazing in 3D! I loved both Toothless and the Terrible Terrors. I don't know why, I thought those little guys were adorable! I wouldn't mind having one.
My only real problems were that Astrid and Hiccup's relationship could have hand a BIT more behind it. But it was sweet.
My only other thing? The pacing. It was great pacing but a tad jumpy for me. It's like a movie that had all the unnecessary scenes cut out. I loved the pacing and that they did this though, it actually worked really well.
10 out of 10 shots from me too!
(also? That older viking who looks like Snotlout? His name is Spitelout. His VA was DAVID TENNENT.)

David Tennet played Doctor 10 on Doctor Who. He also read the audio book for the original How to Train Your Dragon book.
In 3D this would be EPIC. There is no doubt about that! I would probably be quaking in my boots during the final fight scene, that was actually pretty darn scary for a kid's movie.

I LOVED EEET.
I mean, How To Train Your Dragon was the first Dreamworks movie I actually wanted to see since... hmmm, Shrek, or maybe Shrek 2. It's been YEARS. And then I saw it and I was like DOOD YUS!
The only thing is that Astrid suddenly liked Hiccup so quicky after riding the dragon. It was just a little bit... I dunno, unrealistic? After the ride, their relationship built up and it was all good, though. Go Hiccup/Astrid! Lol, anyone else reminded of another canon pairing from a certain other animated film we all know and love? XD XD XD
Also, I found an animation mistake! Hiccup draws Toothless, right? Then he rubs out half the tail. I'm pretty sure he doesn't draw it again - though if he does, he rubs it out again. Anyway, it's rubbed out by the end of the scene. Then, the next time his sketchbook appears, it's all neat and drawn on. Your thoughts?

*cough* It doesn't remind me of another pairing, because I don't see anything romantic at all in the pairing I believe you're referring to and I don't consider it canon anyway (...I don't actually consider any pairing in that movie canon, but I digress). ^^; Not to say I don't like Hiccup/Astrid (which is so obviously canon it hurts my teeth XD), because they're hella cute. XD
That being said, though, I most certainly did like this movie, or I wouldn't be here! It was a little jumpy, and like other films, it could've stood to be about twenty minutes longer. It was, what... 90-some minutes long? Roughly an hour and a half, give or take? But the story was complete, things didn't feel particularly rushed, and though it was a fairly formulaic storyline with formulaic characters, there were still some parts that surprised me and kept me guessing.
I hadn't noticed the tail thing. I'm gonna be taking my nephew to see it this coming Saturday, so I'll see if I can catch it then...
And the bit with the dragons becoming mounts for the vikings later... I don't think it's a situation where the vikings are actually controlling them in any sort of fashion. The dragons are fed and protected with the vikings, and they stay by choice.

Oh, you're right Welcome! I never noticed that before but now that I think back I do. Maybe they planned it differently, like he had the image drawn after he first saw him and not after he found him again and forgot to fix it.
Yes, Astrid and Hiccup together are actually REALLY cute! I would love more backing for their relationship, but it works fine for me.
The jumpyness was a thing for me too CJ. All it needed in the twenty minutes we feel it lacked was some character stuff. But it's like they cut out anything truly unneeded and left what was left. Which worked pretty well.
I also agree with the dragon being mounts bit. It's obvious the Vikings are taking care of them now, probably to make up for years of hunting and killing them, so the dragons staying seems logical.

I LOVED IT.
OMG, I could go on ALL DAY gushing about why I loved this movie, but I can sum it up with a quote: "I laughed, I cried...it moved me, Bob."
And also with the statement that I'm going to have an HTTYD birthday party when I turn 20 this year. THAT is how much I loved it. ^^

Definitely one of the best, if not the best, animated movie I have ever seen. Comedy, adventure, fantasy, romance - it had everything in it. I was certainly enthralled by it, and I'll be sure to get it on DVD. A very honest rating out of 10 in my opinion would be: 9/10 Why is it missing one? Well, let's face it; nothing is perfect. But HTTYD came pretty damn close, and I'm sure everyone will agree with me that it is one of the best movies released so far.

Oh, HECK yeah! One of the most epic movies I ever done seen, lol. But all joking aside: It was serious, it was funny, and full of action at the same time!
It gets a 64/10 from me! :D
Will DEFINITELY try to get it on DVD

I sadly just saw HTTYD yesterday and I absolutely loved it. I believe it is one of Dreamworks' best movies yet to come. Was it better than Shrek? Well, YES! Heheh.
