The Dragons: Riders of Berk DVDs will be released on July 23, 2013. It will be released in two 'volumes'.
Volume 1 Disc 1 contains episodes 1-6 and the "World of DreamWorks" special feature. Volume 1 Disc 2 contains episodes 7-11 and the "Dragon Tracker Part 1", "Evolution of Thunderdrum", "'Heavy Metal' Dragon Mash-Up", and "Sneak Peeks" special features.
Volume 2 Disc 1 contains episodes 12-16 and the "World of DreamWorks" special feature (again). Volume 2 Disc 2 contains episodes 17-20 and the "Dragon Tracker Part 2", "Evolution of Whispering Death", "'Fly High' Dragon Mash-Up", and "Sneak Peeks" (again) special features.
They are currently available for pre-order on Amazon, for $14.96USD each or $18.68CAD each. (I just LOVE to pay more for the same thing!)
I hate it when they split single seasons into volumes. It seems to me to just be a ploy to get more money out of you. What good is only having half a season?
Conversely, it's also available on iTunes right now for download, in SD and HD. Again, they split it into two 'volumes' of episodes 1-10 and 11-20. They cost $14.99 per volume in SD and $19.99 per volume in HD. But they do not contain ANY special features whatsoever. (EDIT: and they are DRM protected)
Personally, I would prefer to have it on disc so I can have the special features, but I also want it in HD and they are not releasing it on Blu-ray (yet). So I can't decide whether to get the DVDs or just download it and pay slightly more.
Anyone else thinking of downloading it (or have already downloaded it), or are going to pick up the DVDs when they're released?

I own the entire first season on Google Play. Paid $40 dollars. The part that's bummer is that it's SD only on PC, and I can only view HD on Android devices. Thank God I have a Nexus 7.
For US residents with a gaming console, Roku, or an advanced Blu-Ray player, Vudu is a pretty good digital option as it offers 1080p. iTunes is not a viable option for me as I don't have an Apple device, and Apple, like all digital video distributors, is generous enough to encrypt all their videos. Woo hoo.
Although I will admit the specials features are tempting, I kind of don't see the point of them when they're for a relatively small TV show. Movie features get a lot of interesting stuff as they're essentially throwing money and seeing what happens...

I'm not going to buy it on iTunes, now that I've learned they're DRM'd. Even though the DVDs will cost slightly more and are in SD I think it's worth it to not have draconian crap on something I own.
I've already watched the whole series, but I'm buying them mainly because I want to support the show, and for the special features. If they don't get enough sales, they might not put out the next season on DVD.

I'm pretty sure they're partially done with the second season already, so it should be pretty secure; it's not like the sales outside of TV are a major component of profit.
Speaking of which, I'm not sure if the DVD is also encrypted. There's usually not a good way to escape DRM when it comes to videos... *sadface*

This is for the bonus feature on the first DVD Dragon Feature Part 1...Hiccup's voice sounded different when I first watched it; higher pitched. I think I remember that Jay Baruchel said he didn't want anyone else doing Hiccup's voice. So why does Hiccup's voice sound different? Is it still Jay or was Jay sick or something and they had to get someone else to voice Hiccup for that one bonus feature? I'm so used to Jay being the voice of Hiccup and that did not sound like Jay. I had to watch Heather Report Part 1 to get used to Hiccup's real voice...I was gonna watch it anyway because it always kind of reminds me of when Hiccup saved me...minus the betrayal part and the interest in the Book of Dragons and parents being captured and blah blah blah...okay, enough of my blabbering...

Did anybody else pre-order it from fox to get the limited edition Toothless DoB toy? I did, and I LOVE the toy.

Did anybody else pre-order it from fox to get the limited edition Toothless DoB toy? I did, and I LOVE the toy. I was waiting/hoping for a Blu-ray release, but I would really like to have that toy. I've been looking on eBay, but people are asking crazy prices for it. It appears to be still available on the Fox Connect site, but I have a feeling they are probably sold out by now. In any case, Fox doesn't seem to ship to my country, so that's another problem.

That really sucks The reason it's going for so much on eBay is because there are only about a thousand of them.
