I have been watching Riders today, as there is a marathon, and... I have noticed something odd.
They were all out of order, which is not unusual, but when I went to see the episode numbers... they were all misnumbered in comparison to the air dates.
Viking for Higher is listed as episode 2 everywhere because it was the second episode in the sneak peak. But... it is not the second episode in episode information. When I look at episode information while watching it on tv it is listed as Season 1 Episode 6.
Not Season 1 Episode 2.
Now, I have Comcast. Comcast normally has the right airing information. And as it was a sneak peak, they may really have shown us an episode well into the show continuity wise, that is not uncommon. So this means that Viking for Hire might NOT happen before Alvin but AFTER.
If this is so, this is why no one wants dragon killing weapons anymore. They know they will likely never need them. They know as long as they have dragons, they only need their normal weapons.
This also explains why, between Animal House and How To Pick Your Dragon, there is no continuity of Gobber being dragon dentist.
However, I still do not know if this is correct. I only know what I am seeing. But our episode lists may be off by one until episode 7.

That is strange. I have DirecTV, and it doesn't tell me the episode numbers, but I did a little online research.
According to TV.com, IMDB.com, and Wiki, Viking for Hire is episode 2. I know Wiki isn't that reliable, but I use the other two constantly for information.
Then again, there are some shows that use episodes in the middle of the season as previews. I know one show that took episode twelve and made it episode one...very confusing. What you're saying makes sense, though...I guess we'll never really know.
