As Selene stirred, she sensed that Colt was still awake. After having listened to the links with sleepy eyes, she moved closer, cuddling against Colt as she said good night to him. Within moments, she sensed he had fallen asleep, and she drifted off shortly after. When she woke up the next morning, she rose and stretched, getting up just in time to see the tail of her son Whip disappear into his cavern. A small smile came to her maw, remembering what she had heard last night. But if he wasn’t ready to tell anyone, she wouldn’t mention it. After all, she knew about love and all that, for she had been in love with Colt since she was very young. During the time of his near death injury, it had been a secret, one that had had to come out or else he would have been chased out when he had woken. Instead he nearly died, and when he woke he was considered a hero.. A smile formed on her maw at the thought, as walked out of the caverns. There was Luna, who seemed to be just now stirring.. As she kept walking she saw Felice and Grinch, curled up in one anothers embrace. A small smile came to her maw before she walked out, pretending not to notice. However just when she was out of view she did them a favor, by whipping her tail against the wall of the cavern, just loud enough to wake them and yet soft enough not to wake anyone else.. Finally she sat outside, thinking about all that had happened as she waited for the rest of the clan to awaken.
---
It was a brilliant night, being curled up next to Whip.. When he told her that he just wanted to be near her, her heart sang and she cuddled closer to him. I feel the same way… She said softly, but soon sleep had taken over her. For once it was a pleasant dream, yet it was stirred by Whips voice… Saying he’d see her in a few minutes. Still intent on her dream, which was about her and Whip, she stirred a few moments later.
A few seemed to be awake, yet.. where was.. Where was that boy, known as Whip? She looked around for him, then sighed. She couldn’t recall his mind link, for in her mind it was just a part of her dream. Waking up and stretching, she walked out of her quarters, peeking in to the cavern next to her to see Whip, laying there.. How long ago had he left to sleep on his own. Sighing, she walked out of the caverns, spotting the queen sitting there. She nodded her good mornings and walked out to the clearing, watching a rabbit. Pouncing on it, she opened her paws.. Empty.. She never had been a good hunter.. It was still a mystery to her why such a handsome dragon like Whip liked her.. To her it was impossible, and yet it seemed to be happening. Her mind told her to be careful, that it had to be some trick.. Yet her heart yearned for every bit of contact with him. Looking back at her empty paws, she frowned. Who could want a gal like me? She whispered to herself.
---
Upon Grinch’s nuzzle, and her soft words.. their eyes met, and in hers she held affection for him, no more of the sisterly stuff she had always pretended to do. For ever since these emotions arose she had pretended it was a sisterly thing, and now she knew it was not. She liked him, wanted to be near him.. And maybe one day they could be together, forever more. With that thought in mind, she cuddled closer to him, before falling asleep. Her dreams took her to a new world, a part of the future with Grinch.. Without realizing it, the morning rays of sunlight crept in.. Still fast asleep as others seemed to rise, a sudden noise awoke her. She wasn’t sure what it was or who it was, but she nudged Grinch awake. She nuzzled him gently, licking his maw tenderly. Grinch, I must go back to my sleeping quarters… They can’t know about us. Not yet… She wrapped one wing around him in a hug, her paw over him. She took a moment to nuzzle against him, just holding him for a long, tender moment, before she got up reluctantly and wandered to her quarters. The cavern halls were empty, though others seemed asleep. It seemed no one had seen them, and she sat in her cavern, attempting a link with Grinch. Come see me as soon as the morning hunt starts. I’ll be here, waiting for you. Her tones held affection, and anticipation. She couldn’t stand to be away from him, and she desperately wanted to be there, wrapped up in his wings once more.

That was a lovely night's sleep. His senses came to, slowly but surely and he felt the Sun's early morning presence. He rolled over onto his front and stretched out. He always found that he felt better during the day when he did this. It loosened the muscles. He still needed to do something though. Something he couldn't yesterday, but he now could while the day was young. He had to mourn for Tessa's passing. Normally, Selene was up a minute or two before him, and today was no different. He felt her presence nearby. He was still sleepy, as he nearly strolled into the edge of the entrance. He shook his head to try to shake himself up, and as he did so he saw Selene round the corner. He gave her a quick gummy smile when he stopped. He didn't need to do this often. Selene probably thought he looked stupid. Morning beautiful. He rubbed his maw against hers affectionately. I still need some time. For...for... he didn't finish his sentence. He hoped she knew what he was saying. I'll see you before the morning hunt. He gave her a nuzzle, then spread his wings and took off. He had to deal with this in his own way. It was the only way he felt he could handle it, and set a course for the waterfall. It held a deep meaning to him. It was where everything truly began.
He landed in the same way he normally did. Just below the branch where he first landed and got the fish for he and Selene. He'd begun to wear out the grass below it by now. He walked to the river with a heavy heart. And wept as he did when he was with Selene. His head was just over the edge of the water so the tears would fall into it and not the ground. He still wished he could have seen her. To thank her. He trusted Selene's words, but still... it wasn't enough. He just wanted to be there and say goodbye... but he couldn't. Like he couldn't say goodbye to his parents. And siblings. After what must have been around 15 minutes, started to feel something. Acceptance. A resolve. He knew what had happened was something he couldn't help and that if only he was better placed... That was it. If only. He could dwell on the 'if only', or try and put his family in a better position for life by dealing with this and moving forward. He knew Tessa wouldn't want him to mourn her like this.
He heard something overhead, though he only passed them off as some songbirds.
-----
He hoped Luna had heard him when he made that link with her. If he'd left it even a second later though, they would have known. He knew mum was normally up and about by then, so he had been quite lucky. Dad followed a minute or two later. He remembered the last thing she had said to him, before he'd drifted off to sleep. With her for company. Lovely lovely company. I feel the same way… So, she didn't know either? He'd referred to him as handsome. He liked it. It made him feel quite manly! He hadn't noticed recently, but he had begun to take after his father as he begun to slowly mature. And he would be a bigger, stronger version of him eventually. For now though, he was still a middle aged cub. He saw Luna leave her room, and felt the same desire to be with her as he had last night. But he couldn't yet. They were watching.
He saw dad say hi to mum... and then fly off. That was unusual. He made a mental note. Just to bear that in mind. In case it was anything important. His gaze was back to Luna as she looked to do some hunting. He watched as she dived on her target. But, she didn't get it. She was too tense; too worried about what she was doing to really have a good chance of getting it. He'd made that mistake when he was younger, but he was shown how to do it better. He had to show Luna this as well. He knew how he could be with her today. Knowing mum was watching, he suppressed the urge to run and instead walk over to her. Out of earshot of mum, he could speak freely to her again. Hey Luna. Did you enjoy last night? He saw an anguish on her face when she wasn't able to catch the rabbit. I'd be happy to show you how to be a better hunter, if you want? Maybe you could help us on the morning hunt? He gave her a small smile.
-----
He felt Felice nudge him. It was early morning. He was happy being at Felice's side. It felt right. The whole of that night felt right. He felt something against his maw. Her tongue. It felt nice. Her link came through to his mind. Grinch, I must go back to my sleeping quarters… They can’t know about us. Not yet… He was sad to hear this, but he understood why. No-one else apart from Colt, Selene, Felice and he knew about what had happened. He felt her wing wrapped around his body, and a paw on him. He was awake by now, and he gave her a nuzzle against her maw. She moved off back to her own room. He felt like he should follow her, but he knew better. As she left his room, her link once more filled his mind, though it wasn't too clear for some reason. It was something about seeing her before the morning hunt. He felt...affection in her link. He decided to spend an extra hour napping in his room, and savour the time he had with Felice.
When he woke, it was nearly time for the morning hunt. The clan was awake by now, and everyone was preparing for it. Apart from the guards. They never joined in. He wasn't the best hunter in the clan by a long shot. He normally failed to catch much more than a fish or two or a rabbit. Recently, he managed to catch his first ever deer. As he mulled this over, he picked up on something he hadn't before. The first in the clan to notice this and congratulate him... was Felice... His heart was more yearned to be near her.

Selene gazed off into the horizon, as the first rays of sunlight started to filter into the heavens. Somewhere up there her mothers spirit was watching them now, watching her.. Would she be proud of the way Selene would lead? Of the way Colt would lead? Somehow she knew she would be proud of Colts actions last night, at how he had controlled his anger and responded in love and not punishment. Even Selene had been worried about what would happen, but as it turns out she had had no reason to worry. It gave her more faith to know that her mate was so gentle, especially in a situation she knew had not only angered him but hurt him.. And to occur so shortly after losing someone as dear as Tessa.. Well, she knew it hadn’t been easy for him. In that moment she had seen just how great he was not only as a mate but as a father, and she couldn’t be prouder to call him hers.
Silent footsteps came to her trained ears, she looked over and saw Colt approaching. It looked as though he had had a restless night, and as he nuzzled her she returned the gesture tenderly. He spoke about needing some time to himself. She nuzzled against him as he trailed off. Take your time dear. She said softly, and as he headed off, telling her he’d back in time for the morning hunt, she smiled a little, before sighing as she watched his figure disappear. As hard as this was on her, she knew Colt was taking Tessa’s death especially hard. Instinct took over, and she flew to find where he had gone, just to make sure he was okay. However upon catching his scent, a object in the distance caught her eye. It was a single night fury, flying overhead. It was not one of her own, but before she could grow any curiosity the dragon had disappeared. She landed in a clearing and saw Colt. She gave a soft purr as she approached. Nearly time for the hunt, dear… Her gaze lifted to the skies, a soft concern in them. She looked back to him. We better head back. She finally said softly. Something odd was going on.. Why was there a rogue night fury flying this far into their territory? Usually they respected their borders.. Perhaps it was just one who had lost his way. Yes, that had to be it. As she turned to head home, she pushed it out of her mind. Upon arriving back she made a call, a call her mother always used to make for the hunt. Night furies from all over her clan came forward. Today, it was her and Colt’s turn to lead the hunt. Ready dear? She asked softly, before flying off into the skies… As her mother did, she.. along with Colt… would scout the skies for prey while the others snuck in, following their mind link commands.
---
Gah! I nearly had it! She said in a tinge of anger and despair. The rabbit ran off, and as she looked up she realized someone had been watching. Blushing, she looked down. He couldn’t have been impressed with that, surely he would think she was some fool.. She couldn’t even catch a rabbit, how could she possibly be thought of as anything special to him? And yet.. as he approached her, he asked about last night. Her mind raced back to him coming to her cavern, his touch, his embrace, her wings around him… And the feelings it had given her to be so close to him; the desire, the lust, the affection.. And it went to waking up this morning, alone.. Wondering why he was gone, why he had left her side... She looked down, nodding a little. His voice brought her to look up at him, as he offered to teach her how to hunt.
Normally an offer to better her would be taken with aggression, for she usually liked to learn on her own. And yet, at his offer, his gentle tones.. She smiled a little. Alright.. Impress me. Show me how its done. She said softly. Soon enough after having practiced with him, it was time for the hunt.. And yet, with all his help, she hadn’t caught anything.. Discouraged, she looked to him. As the queen took to the skies and the clan started to move out in a mass before spreading out, she lost sight of Whip. All sorts of links filled her mind, and she breathed heavier. She had never done this, had never been in a hunt.. All the links, all the thoughts and emotions running through her made her heart thunder.. She tried to pick out which one was Whips, but she couldn’t tell.
Trying to catch sight of him, she thought she saw him and darted to be near him but felt a guard push her back with a growl. Quit fooling around and stay in position. Came his voice. She recognized it as the same one who had tackled her. What position? She was just trying to survive this hunt! It was only suddenly that among the mind links and chaos in her head, the clan lunged forward and spread out.. Several started tackling and coming up with kills. Most of them were deer or elk, some even caught moose. She caught sight of a rabbit and lunged for it. I got it, I got it! I.. But upon opening her claws, they were empty. She heard a quiet laughter around her as the others around her had seen it all. Heard their thoughts as they spoke amongst themselves.. Runt can’t even catch a rabbit! One said.. Who trained that cub! Laughed another and yet another said.. Wow, that was almost a catch! Not! … Finally she looked around herself, at all the smirks and heard all the laughter, heard what they were saying. Tears filling her eyes, she took flight, hearing distantly their taunts as she flew off. She landed, heaving in sobs.. Her mere whisper escaped her lungs.. Why.. Why me..
---
Felice was up and ready, and thought for sure Grinch had heard her. She waited for him just inside her caverns as everyone had left for the hunt, hoping to share a moment with him.. Hoping to feel his touch.. Moments passed and he still wasn’t there. Where was he? There was no link in her mind, and she sighed, waiting some more.. But after what seemed like forever, the call for the hunt was sounded. She came out, catching sight of Grinch… Where were you? She asked, her voice obviously pained… She focused herself on looking forward, and as the hunt began she made sure she was still close to Grinch. She had purposely taken a position as close to him as possible, trying to figure out what had happened. Why he hadn’t shown. Yet her worries of herself were soon put to rest when she heard laughter. Her mind link formed, she could feel Grinch in her link. What the.. Oh no..
For her gaze had come to lay on the happy figure of the new dragon.. The one who had shown her kindness last night, despite not even knowing her.. She saw the dismay as she opened her paws, her claws empty as a rabbit ran off. Frowning, she heard the laughter and growled for them to be quiet, but none of them seemed to hear her, nor listen. She tried to make her way towards Luna, but before she could reach her she had flown off. Sighing, she looked towards Grinch.. This would be a good time to see what was going on, now that everyone else was distracted.. Coming towards him she formed a mind link. I’m sorry I was upset with you, but.. I thought you’d be there.. She looked to him.. I thought for sure you’d want some time with me.. You know, before the hunt.. Pausing a long moment, she finally nudged him away, to a small clearing. She felt the scents of the others disappear.. Finally, she had a moment alone with him. Nuzzling against him, she whispered through her mind link. Like I said, I can’t stay upset with anyone.. especially you.. for long.. She nuzzled against him again, running her tongue over his face tenderly as she tackled him.. Grinch.. She whispered.. I’ve never felt this way… ever… I feel like we belong together. She slowly wrapped her wings around him, laying her self so she was laying with her skin against his. Her heart thundered, this was all so new.. All these emotions were so new and it felt so.. so perfect. She hoped it would never, ever end.

What he heard weren't song birds. It was Selene. He was probably here for longer than he realised, as Selene revealed it was nearly time for the morning hunt. He rose and and gave her a nuzzle as she purred. He knew that he was ready to move on. He had grieved and accepted that what Selene had said was what he hoped she had known. That he was grateful. For everything. Even if he never was able to say it in time. He felt Selene's link once more. That it was time to go. He nodded and they took off together, back to the cove. The clan.
As he returned, Selene made that familiar call. The call for the hunt. The whole clan was ready to hunt, and they all began to line up at the entrance of the cove. He also saw Whip was showing Luna how to be a better hunter. He doubt that it would help her much as he himself wasn't too experienced, but he had a good heart. He saw a look in his eyes that looked familiar to him. The look of happiness, being with someone you care for. He trying to hide it, but he knew better. He'd been down that path as well. Whip wanted to be with Luna, but he wasn't ready to show it yet. And to think not that long ago, he was only a baby... Selene probably knew before him, as she was always that little bit more aware of this sort of thing. He wouldn't let Whip know they knew. It would have to be in his own time. Like it was with he and Selene.
He landed on top of the highest point of the cove that overlooked the hunting grounds. Apart from the contingent guards that kept the cove from being defenceless, the rest were for him and Selene to start it. He felt her gentle link. Ready dear? No. Felice and Grinch we- oh. Grinch was in position, and Felice was taking position beside him. Never mind. Everyone was in positioned. He hoped Luna would be able to catch something, just to help her settle in. While his clan were kind, they were happy to make fun of someone for a little while if they screwed up. He made a low growl. It wasn't a loud one as otherwise it would startle the wildlife, but it was audible to the dragons below.
He and Selene were in two separate positions, far apart from each other to maximise what they could see. He had control of the right side, and she had the left side. He made sure he had Luna's side, to help her as best he could. Whip was quite far away from her, as his position at the end of it, and act as a sweeper to draw in the animals to where the rest would be ready to strike. As the hunt progressed, he had to make sure people held their positions. If Luna left hers, it would make it harder for the others, though in a way if they made her feel like that then they deserved it. As he controlled around 10 links, he saw Luna make a lunge for a rabbit. They were tricky to catch due to their size and agility. He wasn't surprised that she wasn't able to catch it, but he knew that the others would make fun of her because of it. He saw her fly away, back to the cove. Damn.
He saw Whip leave his position too. Normally, he'd fly down and give him a telling off... but this was an exception, and he didn't do it often without a good reason. He knew why he did. He wouldn't let on that Whip left to the others, and they wouldn't know either. He'd make sure that his commands would keep them focused down the centre of the forest and to avoid the clearings. They would be paying the price for making her feel like that now. When the hunt was finished, he'd make sure he taught her how to hunt. How to hold her position. Once she was able to do this, she'd be able to settle down quicker. Hopefully her aggressive side wasn't reared by this.
-----
He was doing what he could to show her how to relax as she made the lunge. If she was tense and nervous, she would miss and the prey would get away. After some time, she was getting the hang of it, but he wasn't sure she'd be able to put that into practise if she was worried about screwing up. He heard mum make the call, and he gave her a very quick nuzzle before making his way into position. He looked back to Luna, and He hoped that she was nearby. To help her if he could. He saw his dad above him, so he knew he'd be controlling his side. Hopefully Luna saw this and would calm her down and keep her head clear.
He saw a few deer, and he made a quick sprint round to their right side, herding them to the left where the rest can pick them off. This was going to be a busy hunt. Because he had to make that early dash, he lost sight of Luna. He tried to find her link, but amongst the 10 or so voices, hers wasn't detectable. Not to him anyway. It must have been at least 20 minutes. He was tired. He'd been constantly herding in moose, deer, all sorts of creatures so that the main pack could finish them. He heard Luna's link! It sounded like she caug- no. He felt sorry for Luna. He knew the clan would make fun of her for that. Rabbits were surprisingly tricky to catch, but they wouldn't care at that moment.
He saw Luna in tears as she took off. It left his heart empty, to see her like this. He knew that dad would scold him badly for this, but he had to comfort her. He was the only one who could. At least those in the forest wouldn't be able to see him leave. She was already close to the cove as he twisted round and flew off after, as fast as he could. He expected his dad's voice to fill his head, asking him what he was doing... but. Nothing. Maybe he knew why he was leaving, to comfort her. But hopefully he didn't know anything more than that. That he wanted to be with her.
Luna was by her room as he landed beside her. She was distraught, and he knew what he had to do. He heard her mutter under her breath Why...why me? between her cries. He wrapped his wings around her, and nuzzled her maw tenderly. It's OK Luna, it's OK. I'm here. Dad knows what happened. You're not in trouble. It's OK... He felt her tears against his shoulder. It saddened him so, so much to see her like this. Afraid. Unsure of what to do. He put his maw on her head, to try and calm her down...
-----
He loved every minute of that. It was time for the hunt. Wait, it was time for the hunt! Felice. Oh no, he'd not seen her! He dashed out of his room, only to find she had left hers. He felt guilty he'd let her down. He saw her getting into position for the hunt, and her link came through Where were you? His face fell, as her hurt tone punctured his heart. He couldn't think of an answer. He was enjoying his time in bed, remembering last night and how it felt so right, but now... was that all for nothing? Please don't say that was so...
He was in a position close to Felice, and Selene was in command of the left side. He felt her familiar link guide him towards a few creatures, a rabbit here, vole there, standard stuff. He wasn't easily able to catch the larger animals, so she was probably making she he got some of the smaller ones. Hang on.. Luna was... flying off. Away. And moments later, he saw Whip go after her. He turned his head towards the others. Felice was approaching him. Was she still upset with him? He was reminded of what happened with Selene, but she didn't have that same look that instilled fear in him. She asked him why he hadn't come to see her. She nuzzled his neck as she asked this. He looked away. I.. I didn't mean to... I was enjoying remembering your company from last night... He felt her nudge him somewhere as he was trying to apologise. It was towards an open space. He saw her in this light, where it was just he and her. She was beautiful. Her head moved towards his, and she felt him try to tackle her. He let her, as her tongue ran over his face. I’ve never felt this way… ever… I feel like we belong together. He was fairly sure his heart stopped for a moment. As she wrapped her soft wings around him, he felt this need. To put his maw against hers. And he did. It felt so right. Felt so perfect. He knew she'd forgiven him. He rolled over so they were side by side. Her skin was touching his, He felt the emotions he had earlier for her re-emerge. He ran his maw against hers once more. None of the others from the clan were nearby. Felice... I... this feels perfect. So, so perfect.
Hold on, was that... Selene he could see, up high in the sky? Selene! Selene could see us any second! His heart beat picked up. Was it alright for the others to know they wanted to be with each other? So soon?

Just before the hunt, Selene caught sight of Luna trying to learn to hunt. She was just about to help her, when she saw none other then her son Whip move to help her. A small smile formed on her maw, shortly after she called for the hunt. As she took to the skies, she saw Colt join her.. . Selene felt her links forming in her mind, distant and mulled together. The strongest out of them was Colts and her own, and she took a moment to adjust as her mind focused on the hunt.. This was different, very, very different.. then being down on the ground with the others. Gliding overhead, she heard laughter below, and it was then her leading nature took over.. She let out a growl for them to stay focused, but as she did so.. she could hear another growl; it was Colts..
Looking to him, she smiled a little; it was almost like their minds had thought as one, for just that moment. Giving commands to them, she felt herself tiring as she looked down. Then, the hunt was nearly over.. They found the prey and several of them brought down impressive kills. But there was a change in the link; laughter, despair.. She spotted Luna flying off, and Whip following.. Shortly after she realized what had happened, and sighed. Yet she knew that the clan must keep together, and not be made aware of their disappearance. Somewhere in the chaos, she realized Felice and Grinch had disappeared as well. Concern filled her eyes as the hunt ended, and the clan headed back dragging their kills as they took to the air. Selene took a different direction, circling to find her daughter and Grinch.
---
Luna was back at the caverns, while the hunt was still well in motion. She was crying, her emotions getting the better of her. What a fool she had been, to actually believe she could be a part of something so great.. What had gotten in her head? Why had she suddenly believed she could be a great part of a clan, be popular among these dragons, or even halfway liked? A storm raged inside her, and just as she was about to fly off towards her old homeland, a link formed. She paused as her wings had half way lifted...
A pair of wings were suddenly around her, and her own wings drooped in defeat, as she knew all too well who had come to see her. Whip. And.. without another thought, or thinking twice, she melted into his shoulder as tears overwhelmed her. She buried her face in his shoulder as he held her, until finally her tears were soothed. Soon enough, the clan was on their way back… She moved to go into her cavern, hoping Whip would follow. She wanted to be with him, she wanted.. no she needed.. his touch, his comfort.. She wanted to feel like she belonged, like she was cared for.. just as she had last night..
---
The emotions of thinking he had left her there were almost too much, and yet.. She couldn’t be angry with him, and as he started apologizing she nudged him to a clearing. She saw the way he looked at her, the way his eyes lit up. Her own were soft, desire and affection strongly reflected within them… As she tackled him and they fell to the forest floor together, she felt her heart pound in her chest, sparks flying through her veins. Her wings were around him, she felt her heart thunder against his chest. This was bliss, this was just.. perfect..
She felt his maw against hers, and her heart flew into a flurry of emotions. Without thinking, she pressed her maw closer, her jaws loosened slightly as she felt a urge to deepen it, and without thinking, she let her tongue slide over his maw as she held her maw to his for as long as she could. She broke away only when she needed air, and breathed heavily, smiling.. But moments later Grinch began to panic, and she soon saw why.
Mother was flying overhead; she realized she was probably searching for them, and she gently tackled Grinch, spreading her wings out. She had a feeling that her large wingspan would cover him, so in case she saw them she would only see Felice’s figure, and might pass it off as another of the clan. After her mother disappeared on the horizon, she breathed a sigh of relief. Come on, we need to head back. She said softly, nuzzling him. Don’t worry, it’ll be fine. She said softly. As she made her way back to her clan, she saw her mother was there, and seemed relieved to see her. Sorry mom, just spotted a deer that had wandered too far. She couldn’t let her know the truth of where she had been, not now.. not yet.. Looking to Grinch, she smiled at him, before moving to her caverns, hoping to catch a moment alone with him now that the clan would be feeding on their kills.

She'd moved off into her room as he was holding her. He knew the clan was returning now with their kills. He hadn't gotten anything because he went to comfort Luna, though he didn't mind. He'd probably get a fish from the stream or something. She needed him. She'd settled down as he entered the room, and he quickly curled up beside her. She was still ashamed by how she couldn't catch her meal. He wrapped his wing around her body. Her cuts, her scars. They were still there, but it he didn't care. Hey, it's OK, they won't remember it. It's OK... He nuzzled her to reassure her of his words. He edged closer to her, so his skin was touching hers. He knew she needed someone to comfort her. He decided to nuzzle her maw gently.
He was happy being with her. He felt complete. That she was the one for him. If the others knew, they'd probably ask why he chose her. He didn't care what they thought. Not when she was with him. He was curled by her side, just as they were during the night. He could feel Luna's breath against him. He heard someone very close by. But... they weren't heading towards him. It was dad. He'd just entered his room. Probably having a nap. He had his head right next to hers when a scent filled his nose. It made his stomach growl. Food! Hey, Luna. Wake up. I can smell food. He gave her a nuzzle. He waited for her, then left the room.
What he saw made his stomach make a roar. It was a deer! He didn't really care how or why it was there, but he knew he and Luna needed something to eat...
-----
The hunt was... eventful, to say the least. Everyone seemed to get something from it. Except for Luna. And Whip. He directed the last few to gather what they had and return to the cove. Selene was obviously worried about something, and he looked into her link. It was for Grinch and Felice. She was worried as to where they were. He sent a link to her. They'll be fine. You'll see. He knew they'd be fine, and Selene could handle herself. He gave her a quick smile before disappearing. He swooped down into the forest. He knew Luna and Whip wouldn't have gotten anything out of that, so he had to get them something. A small deer was unaware that he was nearby. That'll do.
He could sense many links chatting to each other near the cove. The excitement of getting the kill, then feeding on it. When he took part as one of the hunters below, he'd also do the same. He couldn't hear anything being said about Luna though. It looks like it was just an 'in the moment' thing. That was only mild comfort though. He knew she wouldn't know that. With his kill, he saw her head towards her room, with Whip following her. Whip was definitely attracted to her. He felt a felling. A feeling of pride. His son could tell she needed someone. Maybe she really was the girl for him? He probably no more so than a minute away from the cove, though he knew he needed to let Whip calm Luna down. He left his kill at the edge of the cove, in a place where the scent of it would catch the attention of one of them and no-one else.
Selene wasn't back yet, but he could see her in the distance. She'd just circled back over something. He had a feeling she'd found them. He settled down in his room to have some rest. Selene would probably follow in a bit. Later, he'd make sure to take Luna on as one of his own, like he had done with Grinch. And train her to be a better hunter. He had to do what he could to make it easier for her. At least her aggression wasn't showing like he had feared it would.
-----
He was fairly sure Felice just bowled him over, though to be honest he wasn't really sure what was going on. He was underneath her wing. That was all he knew right now, and thought it may be wise not to move. He didn't make a noise. Nor did Felice. Eventually, after what seemed to be a while, she moved back her wings, and sunlight surrounded him once more. He was a little anxious right now. She seemed more relaxed though. Come on, we need to head back. She nuzzled his neck, while he was on his back. He felt a little exposed, but with her he didn't mind. She probably picked up his anxiety about Selene being nearby, as she reassured him it would be fine. He rolled over and started walking back with her. He heard Selene fly over, and Felice called out they had spotted a deer or something.
Although he knew he'd probably lose, he did something he wouldn't have dared do before. He challenged her to a race back to the cove. He launched himself into the air using all his strength he could muster, and he felt a gummy smile form. They were probably no more than 3 minutes away, but it would be fun. Life was good. He looked back for Felice...

Colt told her it would be alright, but somehow a strong part of her wanted to find them and be sure. After seeing that rogue she was not taking any chances. It seemed she was circling with no results for some time.. Then, hope.. For, while flying over a clearing, Selene had spotted a figure in the forest. She had quickly recognized it as Felice, and thought she could detect Grinch’s scent as well. Heading back, she saw them in the distance. Moments afterwards she heard her daughters words and decided she best just leave it be.. She headed to the caverns, finding Colt there. She gave a small sigh, yet smiled as she lay down next to him.. Colt dear.. She said softly..
She looked to him, wrapping a wing around him. I think I figured out why Felice got so upset. She said softly, her wing covering any other mind links from forming with them. She smiled at him, rolling on her back… Her and Grinch.. They’ve found a connection with each other. She nuzzled against him, closing her eyes.. Our little Felice is growing up..
---
Luna felt his wing around her, she couldn’t help but cuddle closer against him.. Her heart beat steadily in her chest, it felt so good to be next to him. She could feel herself growing closer and closer to him each and every day. She needed him, she wanted him.. for her own.. That thought ran through her head.. Before she remembered she was still a slave, wanted by another clan. There would surely be consequences for her running away, but she would deal with that when the time came..
She figured it would be a simple beating when they found her; maybe pit her against a big night fury male to teach her a lesson, or cut her food rations until she was nearly starved. Nothing she couldn’t deal with. But… that meant when they did find her.. they would want to take her back.. to her enslaved life..
The thought made her close her eyes shut tightly, burying her face in Whips chest. Before he stirred.. Something had caught his attention, and shortly it caught hers too. It was.. food.. He went to investigate, and she hesitated only a moment.. before rushing out after him; what she saw made her jaw drop. A deer, having been taken down and not a bite taken out of it! She looked around for who had done her this favor, but no one seemed to be around to be claiming it... Slowly, cautiously, she approached it, sniffing it for any foul or off putting scent.. Realizing it really was just a fallen deer, she dug into it ravenously. It caught the attention of some of the clan, who perhaps realized just how skinny she really was.
---
After having tackled him, her heart beat faster for a different reason. She forced herself not to think of anything, to close her eyes and try her best not to let any emotion or thought escape her.. Finally, the coast was clear. She had made a small comment to her mother when she had spotted them, which was enough to keep her from worrying. She watched her mother fly off back to the clan, and thought she might have bought the story. She had seen Grinch’s surprise and uncertainty and reassured him. As they were heading back, she nuzzled him. Then he asked her something.. A race?
She smirked a little.. Bring it on. She said, but before she could start he had launched ahead of her. He had gained ground quickly, and she blinked, standing in shock a moment, before her mind snapped out of its shock and she burst forward, her legs pounding against the earth. She was gaining, gaining.. She was going to get there, she was going to win-
She had nearly caught up to him, was racing as fast as she could with her neck stretched, her head just behind his. She looked at him, smirking. Yet just as soon as she thought she was going to win, her strength dwindled, and she realized she had been too far behind to catch up and still win. She came just moments behind him, panting as she could go no further. She stopped, in shock for a moment.. They were on the edge of the camp, the main area where the others were feeding hidden by bushes.. You.. You.. win.. She breathed in between heaving breathes.
Then she looked at him, joyously rushing to his side, tackling him. You win! She said joyously. She gazed at him a long moment… Wow, you really have gotten stronger.. She said softly, suddenly taking notice of his more mature physique. Blushing, she wrapped her wings around them, giving him a tender nuzzle. She spent a long moment just holding him in her wings, caressing him as she let her eyes run over his figure, before finally letting her maw brush against his, a fiery reminder of their first kiss.. She held it a long moment, eyes held shut tight.. For she knew they had to go back to the camp now.. Reluctantly, she broke the kiss and whispered. Come on, let’s go eat.

He was sure he was going to lose. He always lost. He could see she was using all the energy she could use to catch up, so at least that was something. Come on...come on... he was so near, but she was so close to catching up... he just kept going, finding he wasn't tiring. He looked behind again and was in what could only be described as shock. She was falling away just as they entered the cove. He'd... won! He'd never won anything like that before! She wasn't far behind mind you, but she certainly hadn't let him win. He earned it! He was panting when he landed. She was too. He had to sit back on his haunches to catch his breath.
You.. You.. win.. She was as tired as him. Maybe more so. He thought about nuzzling her, but before he could she'd rushed towards, taking him off his paws and tackling him. She didn't do it out of anger. She definitely did it out of joy. Her face was one of happiness. You win! her link shouted into his. He nuzzled her cheek as she said this. Wow, you really have gotten stronger... To be honest, he hadn't really noticed he'd changed much. He had to have done though, he would not have been able to do that even a week ago. He was still breathing heavily, but not because he was tired. Her faced turned red a little, and she wrapped her wings around him. She nuzzled his body, and she held him there. For probably a good while. While she did this he nuzzled her cheek. She eventually went to put her maw against his, and he moved his maw into hers. Her golden eyes were closed. As were his. She let go of him, and said it was time to eat. He gave her a gummy smile, and walked with her to where the others had stored their spare food from the hunt.
After they ate, he felt quite tired. That race had really taken the stuffing out of him. He strolled back into his room for a nap. He stretched, and he rolled on his side before taking a deep breath. Bliss. He only wished Felice was with him. He fell into a light sleep, and a dream encroached on his mind.
-----
He'd just entered a light sleep when he felt someone lay down next to him. He knew who it was, and he greeted Selene with a gentle nuzzle. Her wings wrapped around him, and her soft link opened into his sleepy mind. I think I figured out why Felice got so upset. There had to have been a good reason for her to go for her like that. That was why he didn't take it any further. Her wing covered his head. Only he could hear her link, and she rolled on her back as she smiled. Her and Grinch.. They’ve found a connection with each other. He wondered why she'd been so violent towards her when Grinch's past was revealed. It took him a moment to understand why... if she had then... but it began to make sense. Our little Felice is growing up... He whispered back to her. You've probably noticed this already, but I think Whip has found the same thing in Luna. I didn't see that coming. But I didn't see you coming either. He nuzzled her chin, before putting his maw against hers. They really are growing up, aren't they? Being a parent was worth the effort. All the effort. I assume we aren't to know this yet, huh? He laughed a little. Very quietly. We know what that's like. Give them a week or two, and I think they'll be more open about it. Until then, we don't know, do we? He smiled a gummy smile to her.
He looked away, towards the entrance of his room. He swore he just heard something. He moved his head out from under her wing. He was fairly saw he heard something. It was Grinch, with Felice no less. Was he... racing? Her? That was different. Grinch had never won a rac- well, today really was an odd day. He'd won! He'd won, and Felice didn't look like she went easy on him. He was growing stronger. In his mind, he still remembered Felice as a toddler, when they found him. Weak, hurt. Helpless. He was so glad he was finally enjoying himself. As if he was finally gaining the self confidence he needed. He saw Felice tackle him, and they were enjoying each others company. He looked away, and put his head back under her wing. Selene, you'll never guess what I just saw. Grinch just beat Felice in a race. And about that connection you were talking about. It's there. He smiled at her.
-----
And he thought he was hungry! He was enjoying the deer with her, but it seemed to be getting smaller and smaller by the second. She must have been absolutely starving, as what would take him at least half an hour to finish she'd gotten through in 5! He saw some of the clan take notice of this. Good. Perhaps they might see that the last thing she needs is for them to get on her back. He felt quite full. She wasn't. All that was left by the time she'd finished were the bones, and scrap of flesh here and there. He'd probably eaten may 1/5 of the deer. She'd eaten the rest. All of it. He let out a little burp. The sort of burp made after a good meal. She didn't. Surely she couldn't be hungry? He remembered that she had been a slave. He couldn't imagine how they thought that was right. Feeling better? He gave her a quick smile.
I can't imagine how they could treat you as a slave. It must have been worse than horrific. He would have nuzzled her. But not out in the open. Want to explore the woods? Dad had the waterfall. Maybe he could find something similar.

Upon Grinch winning, there was at first shock.. and then joy; for she found her heart leapt with his as they shared the joy of his victory.. And then it turned into something more, as she tackled him, and what started out as joyous and playful congratulations soon turned into a passionate embrace. As her cheeks turned colors, she felt him nuzzle against her cheek and pressed her maw against his touch, savoring it as much as she could. When at last their maws met, she felt the same fiery emotions run through her.. There was a great reluctance for her to leave his side, but she knew she must.. She gave him a final nuzzle, and together they walked out to the clans territory. Catching his eyes one last time, she smiled, before heading off to eat. Out of the corner of her eye she saw him go into the caverns..
Soon after she followed, going to her caverns.. But sleep was not as kind to her as the day had been.. For just as she was about to fall into a slumber, a horrid storm started. It seemed most of the clan was asleep, but it kept her awake for a bit.. When she finally fell into her dreams, it was one where she was back at the previous nights events.. Again she was attacking her mother, and again she saw the fear in his eyes.. There was a storm raging in her dream, rain pounding all around her as lightning crashed through the skies.. She chased after him, but he just kept going further and further into the storm.. When at last she found him, he had a look of rage on his face and it was her turn to be attacked..
Inhaling quickly, her head shot up, body shaking as thunder quaked the earth outside. Grinch would never do that.. She whispered to herself.. Yet her dream still haunted her. As she lay there, she lay trying to shake her dream from her mind. Finally, she got up, and moved to Grinch’s cavern. Pausing at his cavern entrance, she whispered in her mind link with a shaky voice.. Grinch.. She approached, laying beside him, gently nudging him.. I.. I had a bad dream.. She whispered quietly. She was still shaking just a little from her nightmare. Can I.. Can I lay with you for a while? Just.. Just for tonight…
---
Selene smiled at Colt as he listened to her observations.. He seemed to take in with wisdom and pride. It was much the same way she was feeling about it, and she hadn’t noticed just Grinch and Felice. She still remembered waking up in the middle of the night and hearing them all together, silently talking with their crushes.. Each of them too focused on their loved ones to realize they weren’t the only ones awake. Ah young love.. She laughed softly as he mentioned Whip and Luna. Yes.. I know.. Last night they were all awake, Luna and Whip in one cavern.. Grinch and Felice in the next.. She laughed softly, her wing still over them…
Love is something, isn’t it? She said softly, and just then he peeked from behind his wing. There had been a commotion, a new link nearby. She looked where he was, and saw it. Grinch, coming out into the clearing, with Felice following. Smiling, she looked at Colt, nuzzling him. They are all growing up.. Just then he quickly looked back, having seen something. She happened to glance over and giggled. Yes dear, its definitely there. She wrapped her wing around them, whispering… Sshh.. Our little secret. With a smile, before she closed her eyes, falling into a pleasant slumber.
---
Luna looked at him, after she had eaten her fill. She looked at him as he burped, and realized she had eaten almost all of the kill. Blushing, she said softly Erm.. sorry.. But it seemed he had his fill… A soft smile lit her maw as he asked if she was feeling better. Much. She said softly, but then her smile faded as he spoke of her slavery.. She thought back to the many nights when they had been tormenting her, not letting her sleep through the night without fear of an attack.. Starving her when she disobeyed, which was quite often; for although she had been a slave, she had always fought them when they tried to force her into situations. Sometimes the fear had gotten the better of her. She knew how to take a beating, how to make her stomach last just long enough before she died of starvation.
But it had never been something that was anything like this life, and as she thought back on it, and the reoccurring thought that they might try to find her.. She shuddered a little. Yeah.. She said quietly.. It’s.. a lot.. different.. She trailed off, before he finally offered her to explore the woods. Smiling a little, she nodded.. I know a place we can go.. And then she led the way into the forest… When she got a spare moment, away from the clan, she nuzzled against him gently. This way.. She took flight, flying until she saw a mountain, where she landed atop it.. It was just past their borders, but there was still a good distance until any rival borders were met. As far as she knew, there was no clan that owned this mountain, for none could live on it for long. Usually it was freezing cold atop the mountain in the winter, but on this summer night it was surprisingly warm.. The clouds floated around them, the stars sparkling in the night as she landed on a ledge, nodding towards a small cavern.. She smiled, looking back at him. I found this place when I was younger.. It’s the place I always went to.. well.. to dream.. Y’know about the future, about someday sharing this place with someone… someone like you.. She nuzzled against him, wrapping her paws around him and falling backwards, so he was atop her.. Her heart thundered in her chest.. She was falling for him.. She couldn’t believe she had been so lucky to fall in love, for never in her life had she dreamed she would find love.. As she wrapped her wings around him, she let her maw close in against his, her eyes falling closed, a passion flying through her as she tightened her embrace, never wishing to let him go.. Never wishing for this moment to end.

That was a good meal before bed. His mind was quickly absorbed into a dream. The sort of dream that you want just to last for that minute longer. Just one more minute. Unfortunately, it wasn't to be, as he felt someone make a link to his mind, and stir him from his sleep. He noticed it was colder than it was before he went to bed. Felice! She looked shaken, and her voice was shaky. Had something happened? She asked if she could come in; before he could say she could, she curled up by his side. I.. I had a bad dream.. He felt her nuzzle his side as she laid down beside him. She was close enough that he could feel her shaking. Instinctively, he wrapped his wing around her, to calm her down and put his head closer to hers. Can I.. Can I lay with you for a while? Just.. Just for tonight… He nuzzled her maw in response.
It was quite a cold night, so he was glad she'd joined him. It would be a lot colder otherwise. He could see the moon ahead of him, showering the land with it's faint, yet brilliantly white light. Not much of it was coming it here though. He edged himself closer to her, so his skin touched hers and it warmed his body. He wasn't sure if she was awake, and thought about sending a link to her asking if she was asleep. If she was, then he'd only wake her. He decided not to, and savour the time she was with him at that moment. He fell asleep wondering what her nightmare was.
His mind awoke before the Sun did, though it wasn't far away. The sky above him was pitch black, but the sky just beyond the horizon a royal blue. The others would be up in 10 minutes, probably. There were thick clouds over to the right, indicating that it would rain later today. While she was by his side, he still wasn't sure whether anyone had heard about his past. A past he only discovered himself. He flicked his mind through that night, but didn't dwell on Felice lunging for Selene. Mum? He wasn't sure what to call her, now that he was aware of his past, and that she'd known before then. As did Colt. As he pondered that night, he caught a detail he didn't notice before. Whip had called for Felice. Telling him something. He didn't hear what he said... but he knew that it was about the fight. He must know. His face dropped a little as his emerald eyes stared off into the distance. He was always kind to him. Would he still be kind to him now? Now he knew?
-----
He could tell it hurt her to think about her past. She seemed to momentarily zone out and relive those horrors. Her eyes filled with fear for a second. Yeah.. It’s.. a lot.. different.. Her tone was hushed, but she seemed to snap out of it after he said about exploring the woods. She smiled at the prospect, so at least that had taken her mind off it. I know a place we can go... She lead the way and he followed her out into the vast expansion of trees ahead. The cove was out of view now, and they'd been walking for a few minutes. He was about to ask her where this place was, when he felt her nuzzle his maw. All that stopped his mouth going agape was her holding it up. She also seemed to read his mind. This way... She stretched her wings and took flight. She didn't have the largest wings nor the smoothest skin, thanks to her scars. But he was with her. And that was all that mattered to him. She was surprisingly quick, given her wings span, though it was no match for the speed he could reach. He spied a mountain ahead, and she just seemed to keep going up, up, up. The air was chilly up there, but it was still warmer than he expected it to be.
This high up, he could see the stars he would normally only see at night. How did she find this place? It was amazing. She was amazing. He was cold, but he didn't mind. He was still taking it in when he saw her nod toward a small cavern. He followed her in. As he entered it, she opened a link with him. She explained how she had found this place when she was younger to escape the horror of her old clan. Someday sharing this place with someone… someone like you... He felt... honoured that she would show him this place. With the sentimental value this must have had to her. Catching him unaware, she had wrapped her wings round him and he found him on top of her. This was amazing. Perfect. She was the one for him. Nothing would convince him otherwise. Ever. She probably got hold of this, as she tightened her wings. She put her maw on his, and he pushed his against hers. A true kiss. He just wanted to be with her. That was his only wish. And he had received it.
The air was cold, but that wasn't exactly surprising. They must have been up there for a few hours, at least as the Sun was starting to look like it would be going down in a few hours. Luna... this... this is amazing. You're amazing. He put his maw against hers once more. I think we need to get back, before they wonder where we are. He nuzzled her, and he rolled over from his side and stretched. Up on the mountain, he could view more of the world than he could possibly imagine. He also felt something he didn't before. He felt ready he could show his affection for Luna in public.
-----
Colt awoke the same way he always did, with his senses feeling the first rays of sunshine on his skin. He felt Selene against his side. He wondered whether he should get up... but nah. Too comfy. Too good. Just another minute. He opened his link so that he could hear if any of the clan were up. He was sure he could hear... Grinch. Wondering something. He could smell Felice was with him, so he decided against asking him if he was alright. In their own time... He saw a guard fly overhead. While he was leader, he still wanted to help out the guards when he could. The self discipline, alertness, and the fact you need to keep yourself in top condition were things that he wanted to maintain, particularly as he was leader of the clan. It was his turn tomorrow. Today, he'd make sure Luna would be a better hunter. The hunt was something only done every two to three days, as they always got a good supply of food.

Her wings wrapped around him as she let herself lay next to him. Not sure if he was awake or not, she closed her eyes… Her skin was pressed against his, one wing laying around him.. It felt so good, so comforting, that she fell into a light sleep. Sometime during the night she felt something around her.. It was a wing around, wrapping her up in Grinchs warm embrace, and although still half asleep she and rolled to be closer to him.. Pleasant dreams filled her night, and she woke a little earlier then she normally would, to find a link already open. Eyes still closed, she wasn’t sure if Grinch had caught on that she had stirred just yet. Blinking as the link came into her sleepy mind, she caught bits and pieces about him worrying about fitting in.. It made her wake up quickly, though she rose her head and nuzzled him, wrapping a paw around him.
Hey.. What are you doing up? She whispered softly, tackling him so she was laying atop his chest. Her sleepiness had worn off, and she knew she had a little more time before the others woke up. Nuzzling against him, she let her maw brush against his, trailing it down to his neck before letting her maw rest there, breathing in his scent. She wrapped her wings around him. She smiled at him a little. You know, you do have a place. Right here… She said softly, as she flicked her tail to her chest. She smiled, nuzzling against him. No matter what, I’m always here for you. I lov-
She heard her father stirring, and looked up abruptly. Blushing, she licked his maw, showing him what she had been about to say still held meaning and truth.. She just.. couldn’t say it now. Not with the clan waking up, not with everyone waking with a chance to hear them. She held him a long moment longer, before she went off to her cavern, laying down in her bed.. I’m in love.. She whispered to herself.. She couldn’t believe it.. She was.. She was in love…
---
Along the way Whip seemed to have his doubts, and just as he seemed ready to question her she hushed him and led the way to the mountain. Of course, he was able to keep up quite easily, being a bigger and stronger dragon. But it felt good as she happened to chance a glance back at him, seeing him for the first time gliding through the air, his well formed wings gliding on the clouds. Finally they came to the ledge and as she pulled him down atop her she giggled, and gazed at him with fond eyes, an undoubted love shown in them. She nuzzled against him; she was falling for him, more and more each day. And she was loving every minute of it. Never before had she imagined there would be someone like Whip there to love her.. and yet.. here he was.. Holding her in his warm embrace, her own wings wrapping tightly around him as she sensed his thoughts… A kiss meeting his maw… This was it; she had found her soul mate.. This had to be something made of dreams, for nothing else in her life had been half as wonderful.
Deepening the kiss at his thoughts, she rolled so she was atop him, nipping tenderly at his neck, holding him in her embrace for as long as possible.. Finally, he mentioned having to head back. She caught a glimpse of the skies.. The sun would rise soon, and that meant danger. If the clans nearby saw them out here it wouldn’t be good, for they were no longer in their territory. Actually, this was closer to her old home.. Too close..
She looked at him, nodding. Yeah, lets go. She said finally and nudged him gently, knowing they needed to beat the sunrise before the other clans caught on that they were hiding out here. For when she had visited as a cub, she hadn’t stayed past sunrise. She had always been smarter then that, had always known what dangers lie ahead when a clan finds rogue dragons near their territory. But, having been lost in the moment, she had temporarily lost perspective, and now... It just might be a race to beat the sunrise. Nudging him, she looked to the horizon as the first rays of sunlight started creeping to the horizon. We have to go... now… She said, taking to the skies, she looked back, hoping he was following close behind.
---
Throughout the night Selene could have sworn she heard links, but she passed them off as part of her dreams. However, when waking they were still there, hushed... but there... Selene had woken up a few moments before her mate did, and lay in a doze for a few moments before she sensed Colt was up and about. She rose, and at last came past the caverns. Smiling, she saw Felice disappear into her cavern. Then, she came past Whips cavern.. Empty.. Worried, she checked Luna’s sleeping quarters.. Empty.. She double checked the caverns, but they.. they weren’t there.. Looking out to the horizon, she couldn’t see anything, or catch their scents anywhere nearby.
Colt.. She called, looking around for him. Her voice grew with worry. If their scents were gone that meant that they were close to the borders.. Or worse.. they had crossed the borders.. But Whip wouldn’t do that, he was smarter then that; surely he knew the dangers of crossing the borders? They were there for a reason; to keep them safe. As long as they were in the borders, they were under the protection of the clan’s watchful eye.. But.. if for whatever reason.. they had gone past the borders.. She shuddered to think about what would happen then. Her call grew louder.. Colt!

He'd make sure to remember this for as long as he lived. Him, her. Perfect. His heart just wanted to be here. Just for a minute longer. He... loved her. He actually, truly loved her. And he was still a cub! He knew that if they didn't return soon, mum would be worried. But... this was too good. He felt her roll him so he was on top of her. He ran his maw on hers once more, and he felt her nip at him, tenderly. He fell asleep by her side, in an embrace.
Luna was awake. He could sense she was worried about something and opened his eyes, trying to wake up his body. She'd realised something. They'd crossed the border! He saw Luna's panic in her link, and he was feeling the same. If he panicked though, it wouldn't help Luna. He held his nerve as he quickly rose and headed towards where Luna had gone. She was up in the air and was diving as fast as she could go. Too fast. He was able to safely dive at her speed at least. Luna, slow down! I know we need to move, but if you go too fast you won't be able to pull up without hurting yourself! That wouldn't help either of us! He dived past her a little, and matched her speed. He gradually slowed his speed, so she could see she would need to slow down herself. If she was going too fast, she'd slam into the back of him and he'd be able to arrest her fall. Hopefully he'd be able to recover his fall if she did.
-----
He heard Selene's panicked link and was up in a flash and by her side. She noticed that Whip and Luna weren't here. She couldn't smell their scents. He couldn't smell it either. This wasn't like him. It didn't really fit in with Luna either. But... he had the most terrifying thought. Did she... seduce him? Then take him to her clan? No.. she wouldn't. He knew he was overreacting. He's already made this mistake and he wouldn't make it again. But he had to find them. To be sure. Fast. He remembered many moons ago, he'd spied a mountain for Selene before that night. One of the gems he'd promised to show her, though he never did in the end. He'd actually gone up there, and it was something incredible. But it would have been too cold for her liking. Luna's upbringing meant that she'd probably be able to handle it. Whip wouldn't mind either. He was with her. And that beach... another time. He turned his head to Selene, ready to move.
Selene, I think I know where they could be, though I'm not certain. Check the waterfall; around that area. If I'm wrong, then we can't afford to be both be in the same area. I'll go outside the border, towards that mountain. See it? The one that's quite far out. It was one of those gems I promised to show you all that time ago. He couldn't wait for a response from her right now. At least she knew where he'd be in case she didn't find them there. And vice versa. He opened his wings, and took off. He enjoyed flying. Well, normally. Right now, he needed to find them both. Make sure they were OK. For his sake, and Selene's.
-----
He was on his haunches, just hoping that what he thought wasn't true. But he knew better. Whip would have had to have known for him to talk to Felice before she saw Colt. He wasn't aware Felice was up, and it made him jump when she tackled him. She was on top of him, her chest against his. He felt her soft maw run across his. His heart fluttered. He was pretty sure it had stopped for a second. Again, just like yesterday after the race. You know, you do have a place. Right here… She smiled as she said this, and it put his worry about Whip to bed. He gave her a gummy smile. She indicated to her heart with her tail. He... loved her. He wanted to hold her with his wings. But right now he was upside down, and on his back. Not physically possible unfortunately. No matter what, I’m always here for you. I lov- He heard Colt. He was starting to awake himself. She did too, so she licked his maw before heading to her room. He knew she loved him too. He rolled himself over and staggered back into bed. So many emotions... all of them good.
He saw Selene leave her room, with concern in her eyes. Why? She was trying to hide her link, but she was flustered. Something about Whip and Luna. Missing? He knew it wouldn't be appropriate to get up now. But he had to listen. He heard Colt rise quickly, and he was with her. But only for a moment. His link was with hers, and he was old enough and experienced enough with it to hide it, even if he didn't really think about hiding it. He saw him fly off, with a concerned look. This can't be good. He left his cavern as if he'd only woken up. It would be better if she was at his side right now. It felt right.

Looking around, she had never been so panicked as she was in that moment when she realized her son was gone. Luna was another matter, she hadn’t known her that well.. What could have happened? Her mind raced to different scenarios, none of which were pleasant. Finally she stepped outside. She needed help to find them; now! With all the strength she could muster she gave a wild roar, blasting a few shots to the heavens to warn them of their alert….and before she knew it some of the stronger of the clan had spread out, helping with the search. Most the dragons spread out, and flew off before she had time to instruct them, yet her mind wasn’t on them.. not right now. She knew they could take care of themselves, and that they knew this territory like the back of their paws. Some were hunters, trained to follow scents. But.. there was no scent to follow. It must have rained last night, for all the scents were washed away. As she looked at Colt with worry she had a feeling he knew where they might be. And she was right.. As he told her of a place that would have once been her gem, she felt her heart flutter and her drop back to her stomach as he flew off. What once would have been looked like an ominous mountain… Taking off, she flew in the direction he had instructed her to, letting out call after call.. But no answer.. and the further she went, the less hope she had of finding him..
---
Luna was diving downwards, but halfway into her plunge she realized she was going way to fast.. As she plummeted downwards, a scream in the form of a roar escaped her, and she attempted to break with her wings, but it was no use.. They were like mud against the strong wind, which only worsened for it was not just a wind but a roaring mountain wind.. Fresh off a storm.. Thunder clashed and lightning struck nearby her, she screamed as she suddenly saw a figure in the corner of her eyes; Whip! No! She cried out, trying to scream for him to move. Whip, I can’t.. I can’t stop! Her screams filled the air as she saw him slowing beneath her, but she was still plummeting downwards.
Her body started to spiral, and in the process the sheer force of the wind made her wings flatten against her.. In a heap she was sent flying into Whip, and upon impact she was knocked out.. She awoke, blinking hard a few times. Whip.. Whip.. She called weakly, her vision still blurry from the hit to her head when she had fallen. She realized she must have knocked her head against a tree branch on the way down.. But what about..
Whip! She screamed, rushing over to him, though it was more of a crawl. Tears filled her eyes. She pressed her maw against him.. Wake up, come on.. Wake up.. She didn’t know if he was really passed out or if her mind was playing tricks on her. Her vision still blurry, she roared, a cry for anyone to help.
---
Felice nuzzled against him, before heading off to her room. All these feelings were so new to her, she had never experienced them before.. ever.. And she wouldn’t trade it for the world. As she drifted into a day dream about her and Grinch, a link interrupted her as her mother rushed by. The tones of it sent shivers up her spine, and her father soon followed. Peeking out of her cavern, she stared at the entrance way that led outside.. A roar was sounded as dragons rushed out and flew off, before she saw her parents flying off as well. Blinking, she rushed to Grinch’s room. Something’s up.. She said quietly, worry in her tones.. Something bad..
She listened for links, but it was empty save for her and Grinch.. Had everyone else left already? With no clue what it was about, she couldn’t help much, so she slunk down next to Grinch, nudging to be underneath his wing for comfort. Grinch.. I.. I’m scared..
For never before in her life had her entire clan taken off like that.. Something in Grinchs link made her more scared though.. Whip.. Was it her.. her brother.. Had something happened to him? Her jaw slackening, looking to the empty horizon as thunder struck, she whispered.. What.. What if he doesn’t come back? Horror in her eyes, she turned to look at him, shaken by this overwhelming fear.

Colt was moving as fast as he could. He was willing them to be safe. He saw a lot of the clan take off at Selene's call. Well, the more eyes the better. He saw tow of them follow his direction, though they were never going to catch up with him. Not for a few minutes. Not until he stopped. Why would this happen? Why now? In fact, why at all? The storm was getting stronger. This was not looking good. Still it could be worse. Just. He knew that if he could find one, he'd be able to find the other. Just when he to look for Selene when that beast was on her, he felt the same adrenaline. The same hunting instinct take over. His parenting instinct for Whip was imbued in it. And for Luna.
It must have been at least half an hour now. He could smell the scents of a few night fury's, but they were faint. Really faint. Not enough to track, but enough to know someone was there in the area. The wind and rain were making it hard. If only the weather would relent. Please. He saw a a tree top was missing. It'd been broken off, not caused by a lightning strike. He dove in, hoping. Prating, he'd find them. Safe. As he dove in, he saw them. Luna was hurt. Whip was in worse shape than her. It looked like Whip did what he did for Selene. Taken the worst of it to protect her as best he could. If Luna had tried to take him to her old clan, he would have been alone. He dove down, letting out a call with 3 plasma bolts. They needed to be lifted back.
Luna, you're OK. Thank the spirits for that. He didn't have time to nuzzle her though, his mind was on Whip. He could see mark on his chest where he took a few hits from the tree branches as he fell. She didn't. He definitely had a broken paw. Worse than what Selene had after she fell, but nothing time wouldn't heal. Luna, what happened? I'm not angry, but I need to know. You've taken a nasty knock to your head, and Whip's seriously hurt right now. Whip's breathing was regular, and his heartbeat strong. He was a tough cub. He saw some of the search party fly into view, ready to lift them back. They were wondering what had happened. He wished he knew. The answers would come with time. Right now though, he had two cubs that needed help.
-----
The cove was empty. Every single person had left. Except Felice. He saw she was scared, and she made no attempt to hide it either. She was concerned for her brother. She forced herself under his wing and to his side. He pulled her towards him, trying to comfort her. He gazed off into the distance, trying not to think about what was happening right now. Grinch.. I.. I’m scared.. Honestly, he was too. If Felice wasn't by him, he'd be in his bed, scared half to death. What.. What if he doesn’t come back? He knew they'd be back. They always were, sooner or later. Grinch used a soothing link They will be. They will be. Trust me. He pulled her towards his chest, so her head was against it, and he wrapped his other wing round her. He put his head on top of hers, to let her know he was there for her. This wasn't easy for her. Whip was his brother in all but blood. He hoped he'd be OK, just as much as Felice did.

Luna was there, trying to wake Whip.. But to no avail.. He was breathing, she could tell that much. She pleaded with him to get up, and when he didn’t move she wrapped her wings around him, the sobs shaking her. Finally, after what seemed like forever, there was a sound from above. Before she knew it, the leader had landed and was examining the situation. She looked at him as he examined Whip, and her eyes followed his to his chest, before moving to his mangled paw.. Her eyes widened, and she choked back a sob… He was hurt, severely so.. and he had done it for her. As the leader known as Colt questioned her, she just closed her eyes, pressing her face against Whips shoulder. She wished it had all been a bad dream, that this hadn’t happened.. But it wasn't..
Moments later the search party came.. The flight back was quiet for her, she wasn’t able to spot Whip.. Finally when she landed back at the caverns, being the last one to arrive due to her slower pace, she let herself cry. When she was ready, she went to Whips cavern.. I’m sorry.. I didn’t mean.. to do this to you.. I’m so.. so sorry... She closed her eyes, wishing somehow he would answer, but a part of her told her that he was in no condition to answer her, and most likely hadn’t even heard her. Walking out, she found Colt.. She bowed her head in shame, her shoulders shaking with her sobs. It.. It was an accident.. We.. we wanted to spend some time together… So I showed him my favorite spot, up on the mountain.. She closed her eyes, tears running out of her lids. We lost track of time.. I panicked and rushed off… I went into the dive too fast and he.. he.. She trailed off, she couldn’t finish, she looked up at her leader with a broken expression. Just tell me he’ll be okay.. But somehow she wasn’t sure he could.. Somehow her instinct told her it was much too early to tell how extensive the damage was.
---
Felice let herself be wrapped in his wings, as thoughts ran through her mind. Without his support, his wing wrapped around her, she’d surely be panicking a lot more. Waiting, it seemed like forever until she saw the first dragons fly in.. A wild commotion went on, as dragons passed by.. Her heart raced, but sunk as she caught the links.. Something about Luna.. Something about Whip.. being hurt? She looked to Grinch, fear in her eyes, as she peeked out and saw Luna crying.. She went back to Grinch, laying beside him. It didn’t occur to her to hide herself from being next to him; not in that moment. Her mind was on her brother.. She looked to him, as she wrapped her wing around him, burying her face in his neck..
Grinch.. She whispered.. As the links filled her mind.. She struggled to shut them out, but there was so many all saying the same story.. Her brother was hurt, perhaps severely so. And somehow the blame was on Luna.. She looked up at him, whispering.. It’s bad.. isn’t it? She whispered, hoping by some stroke of luck he would tell her it wasn’t, would lie to her to ease her mind. But her heart knew better. This was bad.. real bad..
