I loved it! The action shots were amazing! And I loved how there was you know little flashbacks from other episodes...

I loved the Fight Club references, and the fact that they actually gave Toothless a personality.

I may be in the minority, but I don't particularly like having pop culture references in HTTYD. The film set a standard by having almost no references, and there was only a scattering of them in the first season. I already get the feeling they're increasing the amount of them this season -- the next two episodes also have pop-cultural titles. I'm not too concerned as of yet; I won't mind unless they spill over into the episodes themselves.
Aside from that I enjoyed the episode well enough. I liked seeing the dragon personalities displayed prominently. I loved seeing Changewings again; I'm a big fan of them. I think my favourite part was when the dragons and their riders tried to hide from Stoick. The way they went to their homes was pretty funny.
I'm not sure if the flying ban was supposed to apply to just the teens, or also their dragons flying solo. I thought it was silly enough to ban the kids from flying, but it would be downright unfair to ground the dragons. Then there's the question of where the rest of the dragons went
The sunset scene was cute; was that a Toothcup reference from Astrid? Pretty darn funny either way. Oh, and stoick/Gobber awkwardness... lol. I liked seeing Toothless try to persuade Hiccup to fly, but I was a little annoyed that Hiccup seemed to push him away like an inconvenient pet.
I'm happy they brought back Alvin and Mildew right away rather than making us wait to see what they had planned. The diversion was a nice setup and caught me off guard.
I wonder how Toothless will react to the baby Whispering Deaths. It could be that he only had a grudge against that one, unless he just doens't like that species.
I guess I would give this episode an 8 out of 10, or a B+

If you watch the DOB trailer, you'll realize that by the time they are discovered, those Whispering Deaths are not going to be babies.
Also--Toothless just had a grudge against that one, which is why the Episode was called "Rivals" or something like that. And I must have missed the Toothcup reference, can you point me out to which part you were referring to?
Also, I agree. B+ describes this episode well.

Talking about pop culture references... COME HERE! But really, what's the matter with this grudge against the dragons? Every other episode, they're being banned, caged, grounded, blamed for crimes or almost sacrificed to the gods. If anything goes wrong, they're the number one scapegoats. And at the end, the adults realize again and again they were all wrong. It's getting a bit old, doesn't it?

They have to make it have some lesson to each episode because of the age group.....

That's true, this "stupid parents, clever kids" cliché is pretty typical for TV shows for that target audience. Ah well, it's about time for the sequels...

It's not about the dragons, it's about the riders. Hiccup went alone on a dangerous trip, and that almost ended in disaster, and then he disobeyed his father and almost got himself killed again, and for a petty reason. As for the other teens, they tried to go after Hiccup alone while hiding the whole thing to Stoick, so he's grounding them too. He does not want the riders to be caught alone outside of Berk.
