Hello there. My name is Shade the Night Fury. I've known of this site for a couple years now, but I never actually thought about joining until today. I'm not really sure why. I kinda decided on a whim to join this, so I don't know how this is going to work out, but I hope it will turn out well.

I have different names on different forums. I have gone under the names Graystripe (I used to be a huge Warriors fan, not so much anymore though, I kinda lost interest) and Blackheart, and even as Toothless once. But for this, I decided to do something different. At first, I wanted to use the name Toothless, because I have based my name on my favorite characters before. But that only lasted about a second, because on an HTTYD forum this active that's been around for two years, that name's bound to have been taken in at least twenty different ways. So I decided to go with Shade, which is the name of a Night Fury I invented.

I am a HUGE fan of How to Train Your Dragon. I'm completely obsessed with it. The movie, that is. I haven't read the books, because to be honest they don't really interest me. From what I hear, the things I loved about the movie either aren't in the book, or aren't done as well, and besides, I prefer books for higher age groups. When the movie first came out, I didn't really know much about it except that it was Dreamworks, and I was still in that phase where I thought that Dreamworks + animated = complete garbage. That, and I wasn't quite in my all-consuming dragon obsession that started summer 2011. My friend didn't think it was going to be that good either, but said he wanted to see it anyway because it involved dragons.

Turned out we were both very wrong. It became his favorite movie, and to this day he still likes it a little more than even I do. He pushed me to go with him to see it again, and I gave in. Of all the decisions I've made in my life, that is one of the ones I regret least.

So after that, I fell in love with the movie. Especially Toothless, and the Night Fury dragon design in general. I own the movie on Blu-Ray, and two of the three shorts (I haven't been able to get my hands on my own copy of The Book of Dragons, but I want to), and a physical copy of the soundtrack (best film score ever? I think so). As far as the shorts go, I wasn't a huge fan of the Boneknapper one, because I thought it was too light-hearted. It didn't really fit the spirit of the movie to me, and it only had about two seconds of Toothless. But the boneknapper was AWESOME. Gift of the Night Fury was great though, and the Book of Dragons was pretty cool.

As I said before, I love Toothless. He has become my favorite character of all time (not just this franchise). He is my favorite dragon (well, all dragons are awesome simply for the fact that they are dragons). The Night Fury just might be my favorite dragon type ever (other dragons from the movie I loved were the Monstrous Nightmare, the Deadly Nadder, the Boneknapper, and pretty much anything but the Gronckle, which I'm not a huge fan of). I own a Toothless figure and plush, and actually went as Toothless for Halloween using my own homemade costume that my friend helped me make. My point is, I'm a MASSIVE Toothless fanboy (which is why I'm posing as a Night Fury).

I also saw the Arena Spectacular last Thursday. While it was a little cheesy at times (I could've done without the dance sequences), some scenes were very well done, and the visuals and dragons were AMAZING. I recommend it to any HTTYD fan. I also got a shirt there that showed a picture of Toothless and said "Certified Dragon Trainer."

As for the upcoming TV series, I cannot wait. When I first heard of it, I was mad, because I was almost certain that it was going to ruin the movie's good name. Honestly I can't think of a good TV show based off of a DreamWorks animated movie. But after watching Gift of the Night Fury, I began to hope. And after seeing all of that Comic Con footage... My God, I can't wait. I'm not going to go into all my thoughts on the new information they gave us, because it would take WAYYYYY too long, but it sounds amazing! I will say, however, that I love that they seem to be doing a little bit from Toothless's perspective at times. At least, that's what I'm getting from it. I could be wrong, but I hope I'm not. I would love that.

So yeah, that's pretty much it for my thoughts on the actual franchise. As I mentioned before, however, I invented my own Night Fury character named Shade. I've used him with two things. On an RP forum me and my friends made a while back, I created a How to Train Your Dragon RP in which I used him. In the RP, he was Toothless's son. I love RPing, and I'm very proud of the concept I came up for that particular one. But Shade's genesis was really in a story I started writing in the beginning of last November, and am still working on it today (35 chapters, 462 pages, and 178,196 words and counting). The plot was entirely my own creation, but some of its elements were borrowed from other things, be it real life or something like HTTYD. I'm writing it purely for fun. Anyway, Shade, one of the main characters, is a Night Fury (as is another, Ashmore, that my friend invented). Me being me, and having a bias towards dragons over humans, I have made him one of the most developed characters in the entire story (if not THE most developed).

Well, that's about all for HTTYD-related stuff. I also enjoy writing, listening to music (mostly rock/metal, I'm a huge metalhead), watching movies and tv shows (I aspire to one day become a director), playing video games (although not as much right now), drawing (dragons and Pokemon, mostly), reading, skiing, hanging out with friends, daydreaming, and other stuff that I can't think of right now because my brain is starting to go on overload because of how much stuff I've put in this post. Yeah, as you can see, I have a lot to say when it comes to HTTYD. So, yeah. That's all. This place seems nice, and I hope to have a good time here.

I assume by "black dragon" you mean Toothless, correct?

I saw him too, but only briefly, and I didn't comprehend how completely awesome he was until I actually saw the movie.

I've been a fan for two years (although for a brief period of time I kinda lost interest in it. Still slapping myself for that), and knew about this website for about that long, but I never really gave this place a second thought until today, when I felt like joining a forum and found this place.

Yeah, he was Toothless's son, but only in that RP so far. In the story, Toothless doesn't exist because it takes place in this world. The Night Furies were a result of genetic engineering as part of a series of scientific experiments that eventually created a disease that brought on the apocalypse. The story started about seven months after that.

Well There aren't any RPs going on here ATM...I'm at this other forum which is sorta a clone of this one (it's more inactive), I plan on changing it completely. Anyway, I'm in like 3 RPs over there. Though the three are private:p But I'd why I like RPing there mostly XD

I lost interest for like the first half of 2011, but then about halfway through I started getting it back and in October was when I got REALLY obsessed with it again. It was because I watched it, and since I hadn't watched it in a while I enjoyed it more than I did the last couple times, and then I was wondering what to go as for Halloween that day and afterwards it just kind of clicked.
That's around the time I came up with Shade too.

Well, I usually change my characters' backstories around a little bit for different RPs. Although I probably should make a set backstory.
In the one I did, he hatched a few years after the movie, in the "Golden Years" where the relationship between vikings and dragons were at a high (there was a lot of backstory to the RP).

Lol I watched the movie like in May 2010, and like two months later I lost interest Around October I found these fanfics that I read and really enjoyed Which made me obsessed again, then I just kept on looking at pictures and fanworks of the movie. Then At the of November of that year, I joined here XD

I should make one. Normally what I do for recurring RP characters is I make one profile for it, and edit it if necessary (if, say, the RP requires a different backstory or something).
So did mine, in that one RP... Damn I feel bad now...

Oh well then I totally agree with you. Being a Night Fury would be perhaps the greatest thing ever. The only other thing that could even come close to comparing would be if my OC was real and I could befriend him like Hiccup befriended Toothless.

Me neither, but that's because I don't have anybody to RP with. Let me know though.

Because we killed off both of Toothless's mates XD

That's never happened to me, but I have met Toothless multiple times. One time he lived in the woods around my house, and I would hang out with him a lot, another time he lived secretly in my neighbors attic (no idea how they didn't notice that), and a third time I rode him a lot, and also had wings like in the series Maximum Ride (greatest dream ever).
At least I think it was Toothless... Might've just been some random Night Fury. Either way, though.

I think that would be a great idea.

Okay, I have some questions about the forum. First, about how active is it around here? I just want to get an idea. Also, I've never used Proboards before, so what do the stars above your avatar mean? And what does the Karma thing mean? Lastly, what do the two options "Exalt" and "Smite" mean?

exalt means to promote you (1) karma and Smite means to demote you (1) karma. (i have no idea what the stars are for, or what karma is ) it think its like a point system here, the more you have the higher the rank.

Haha lol, Shade's mom is also dead? Well about my OCs mom...I still haven't fully decided if she should be dea or not. She took care of my OC after her father "disappeared" and like a month or two later her mom went out and never came back, leaving my OC alone still as a small hatchling. I have had some ideas like her mom got injured or something and a viking is taking care of her. And then they see eachother again a long time later. They're still ideas though XD

Yeah...The only problem actually, is that I kinda more used to RPing with other Viking OCs as well. I have the little night fury, and a Viking who takes care of her. But we can think of something probably

Well...it was pretty dead some time ago. But with all the news from the series and all it's gotten pretty active again. About the stars, they are your rank. Like you are at "Not quite" and have one star. After you make a certain amount of posts you'll gain another star, and the rank name will change. And so on. I already got the highest a LONG time ago .

Well...Exalt means to add, and smite to remove. Basically they're like points that do nothing If a member helped you or did somethin else or whatever you can click exalt and it will add 1 karma

Well I haven't made the official backstory yet, and that RP was a special case in which his mom HAD to be dead. It's part of his, his brother's, and his father's motivation.

I think in my story at some point, Shade is going to become a father. So there will be Nigh Fury hatchlings in that.

Wait, in the RP's here, are they all on the same timeline in the same universe? Or are they all standalone?

Yeah make A viking if you want xD And yeah they;re pretty much stand alone. You plan the plot and whatnot with the person you're gonna RP with. You can make it take place years after the film if you want. Already been in RP where that happens, though the other people stopped posting for no reason Butr yeah, doesn't have to be on the same timeline as the film or something .

You should give it a try sometime. It's very fun.
And IDK... It kinda breaks some of the forum's rules. There's a lot of cursing and such, because I believe that when writing a character's dialogue, if they would be the kind of people who would use such language, then have them use it. I know that's against the rules here, so...
