I know this is preemptive, but I'm just trying to make conversation. So what do you think this new character is going to be like? Ally? Enemy? Love interest? Like her? Hate her? Why?

I don't know about her, I remember this one comment on my video asking "Astrid's not going to get jealous is she?" I got a feeling she might. Also, from what I can tell when Hiccup smiled at her, I think he knows her really well. Maybe childhood friends or something.

Wow, a Heather thread! That was fast.
A romantic interest? I think there's definitely a chance. I also like the idea of Hiccup and Heather being childhood friends. Judging by the way he looked at her in the last couple drawings, I wouldn't be surprised if he knew her already. Also, the blurring into focus thing could be a metaphor for understanding the situation or seeing the world in a new light, which might be because she recognizes Hiccup and realizes that he can help her. See, my English teacher should be proud of me and give me the A that I deserve on the final!
