Pretty excited to see this movie, as this is the first R-rated movie I get to see in theaters (come on, AMC, don't take it down before July 17), it sounds like actually good comedy (looking at you, Hangover 3), and it has Mr. Baruchel in it. Of course, every time he says something I'll be like, "Hey, that's Hiccup," and my fandom self will be very, very confused XD. I mean, I'm already getting these thoughts watching the trailer for the movie and the trailer of the short film that evolved into this, "Jay and Seth versus The Apocalypse."
Anyone else see this film? How was it?

I'm going to be seeing it tomorrow. I'll post my impressions later on.
Same thing, I think I could have a difficult time not thinking of Hiccup every time Baruchel speaks, since his speaking voice sounds just like him. Watching the trailers confirms this @_@
EDIT: Just came back from the movie theatre. This movie is awesome! Lots of funny parts, lots of totally inappropriate jokes, and I love how they made it so you never knew what was going to happen next. 9/10 from me, definitely picking this up when it comes out on Blu-ray.
I think Seth and Jay get more screen time than anyone else in this film. His voice often does sound a lot like you-know-who, but the movie itself is so radically different from it that I never really thought about it. Jay does play the socially-awkward, nerd-ish, scrawny guy, as an exaggeration of himself (I suppose by this point this means he's been typecasted) but I think it suits him well for the purpose of the movie.
(sidenote: Jonah Hill gets some good lines too and is quite funny; Chris Mintz-Plasse is also in the movie.)

Well seems like Jay and Seth have been the central part of the project since its conception, as it was originally a short film starring just the duo, still written by Seth: [WARNING: INAPPROPRIATE LANGUAGE] www.youtube.com/watch?v=zA9g4KWHk84I've been reading some reviews and dang, this really is like the first good comedy this summer.

Makes sense that they would be the main focus of the movie, then. I can't seem to find out if that's just a trailer they made, or if it's an actual movie or short.
I think I'm going to go see it again this weekend, as I missed a couple parts of the movie (had to go get drink refills for my brother, and then for myself). I have five free tickets saved up so it's definitely worth it. I think good word-of-mouth is going to keep this movie in theatres for a while longer, especially at those huge 20- or 30-screen multiplexes. I've talked to a few of my friends and they only decided to see it after other people had told them about it.
Any other movies you plan to see this summer? I was going to see Monsters U, but I decided not to because it looks silly and completely predictable. I'm going to see Turbo because the plot seems to be interesting, and I'm also going to see Kick-Ass 2.

This movie was amazing for what it was; a great comedy. It was one of the funniest movies I've seen in a while, and even went a bit further and made it tense, made you actually care about the characters, and in the end even gave it a bit of heart. 9/10

I saw the movie last week and while it wasn't exactly what I expected, it was still awesome. Sure, there were some gory parts, but the comedy completely made you forget about them. My sister, who went with me, isn't really into those kinds of movies, but she really enjoyed it. The end was really nostalgic for me and it had my sister dancing along. I'm definitely going to get the movie when it comes out (October 1 is the expected DVD release date in North America).

I am getting the movie as well.
The gory parts kind of disturbed me a bit (namely the person's head getting crushed) but the comedy later fixed it.

I would have to say it's probably the best comedy I've seen in quite a while. Of course it helps to be familiar with those actors and their other movies. I've seen most of Jay's movies and I still think of Hiccup every time he speaks, heh. I have a rather high tolerance for gore and extreme sexual humour (it's hard to shock me), so I wasn't bothered much by that. The movie did have heart, so it didn't feel as cynical as it could have given the subject matter. The only comedy I'm possibly looking forward to more is The World's End. I pretty much love everything by Simon Pegg and Nick Frost (watched Hot Fuzz multiple times). Less than a week to go.

^Pretty much all this XD And I LOVE Simon Pegg and Nick Frost movies! I've seen Shaun of the Dead and Hot Fuzz multiple times and own both of them and Paul as well! I've even seen Spaced! The World's End looks amazing.
I'm also looking forward to Kick-Ass 2, but not as a comedy so much as a fun action film.
