Entry 44 – November 18, 2012 This morning I woke up with a sore next to my eye. I've had something like this next to my other eye before, but it was a while ago. The area around my eye was puffy, which makes it a bit aggravating to see. This wasn't gonna stop me from going through my normal routine though. When the time came, I put on my coat and went outside. I did seem a bit colder today, but that wouldn't change much (if anything).
Daniel arrived promptly on time (or at least very close to on time). It didn't take him long to see my sore spot on my face. He walked up close to me to worryingly get a better look. “I'm not totally sure what this spot on my eye is.” I admitted. Daniel seemed to have an idea with the look on his face, which sorta concerned me because this had to do with something so close to my eye. Before I could even ask what he was up to, Daniel got even closer to my eye and started licking it. I couldn't even ask the question after this, because I was laughing so hard. “Daniel, what are you doing?” I asked, trying to hold in the laughter. At that point, he pulled his head back and looked at me, flicking his tongue a bit. “You're a crazy dragon, you know that?” I said with a chuckle. Daniel just smiled back at me, as if he just completed at work of art. “Now, if you will excuse me, I prefer to keep my eyes free of saliva.” I said, pulling my coat sleeve up to wipe my eyes off. I then felt the skin around my eyes start to tingle a bit. I then quickly cleaned my eyes off. That feeling sorta startled me a bit. I didn't know what it was, so I wasn't gonna find out if it was harmful or not. “Alright then. What would you like to do today?” I asked the dragon. He casually turned away and started walking towards the road. After walking a few yards away, he looked back at me and then towards his path. “Alright, I'm following you.” I said, starting to run to catch up with Daniel.
As I walked, I started to think more about my eye. I thought that maybe I should wash my face when I get back home this evening, ya know, just in case. When we got to the road crossing, Daniel didn't go straight across the road, he sorta deviated to the right a bit. “Where are you going Daniel? The lake is this way.” I said, pointing towards the lake. He shook his head and continued on his way. I kept following him wonder where he would stop. We walked along the steep shoulder near the road for a bit. Daniel then stopped on a small, paved walkway. I remembered that there was a park near an elementary school down this road. “I'm not sure if this is a good idea, Daniel. Someone could see us here.” I told him. He looked at me a bit disappointed. “Well...I mean...” I said, trying to put my words together. This seemed to be the opportunity for Daniel to start persuading me. I had briefly looked away from him when I was trying to think of something to say. Daniel nudged me and started to smile pleadingly. “Aw, c'mon! Are you really gonna use that tactic?” I said with a chuckle. The dragon simply nodded at me and continued. “Ah...well...” I uttered. Daniel's tactic didn't have to be used for long though, I had caved a bit. “Alright, as long as we're really careful.” I said, chuckling in shame. The dragon nudged my cheek and made a purring sound. I looked up and pat him on the neck. “Lead on, I guess.” I said.
Daniel led down the blacktop path. There wasn't much to this path beside a few benches here and there. A low ditch with a creek ran along the left side of where we were walking. After a couple of minutes of walking, the trees on the left side cleared up. Daniel deviated from the tarmac and hopped across the creek to the other side. “Oh, now where are you going?” I asked, slightly annoyed at this point, due to all this deviation. He made a quick grunt and twitched his neck, signaling me to join him across the creek. I jumped across and discovered what was over there. It was an open field, much like the power line area, but without the power lines. Daniel seemed to be examining the sky around the field.
This sorta reminded me about our whole “not being able to fly” dilemma. I should start actually looking for the equipment needed to fly. It might be difficult, but I guess I could find something. I just need know what I'm looking for. Once I find the stuff, then I'll have to convince myself about flying with Daniel. With the way he convinces me, it probably won't take long. Now that I think about it, that field we were in could be a bit of a “practice area” of sorts. I'm not saying it's definite, because nothing at this moment is on the subject. I guess it's just back to taking it one step at a time and having patience. We left the field and walked down the path a bit more until it was time for me to go.
Tonight, I noticed something surprising. The spot on my eye was completely healed. The last time I had a spot like that, it took about a week or two to clear up. As I look back at the notes from earlier today, it would seem like Daniel might have helped. Speaking of Daniel, I decided to update him with my plan and thoughts. I told him about how I would be looking around for equipment and that it wouldn't be easy doing so, but I would do my best. He seemed to be happy about this announcement of mine. I just hope he can stay patient while I scour the internet for whatever I'm actually looking for. I'll probably need to watch the movie again for inspiration and an idea for what to look for. I also had to tell him about something my parents announced at dinner. We would be going to my Grandparent's house for Thanksgiving week. It was hard to tell him not to come to the clearing for a week, but I had to or he would probably be even more disappointed. I'm not very happy about it either, but I guess it is visiting family I'm talking about. It would be nice if he could tag along with me, that wouldn't be the best idea, but it would still be fun. I just hope we can start back where we left off next week when I return. This might be a difficult week.

Author's Notes:
Yes, the whole "eye sore" thing was something that happened to me (obviously, minus the Night Fury named Daniel). Like last time, I almost forgot to write a conclusion to the subplots (the eye sore thing and the Thanksgiving break). Ever since that one RoB episode, I wanted to include that new Night Fury healing power (well, not immediately).

Entry 45 – November 26, 2012 The last week seemed to go by very quickly. It felt like yesterday I was telling Daniel I was gonna be away for a week. At least I'm back home now. I was a bit worried when arriving at the clearing today. I was wondering if Daniel would remember that I was only gone for a week and that I would be here today. Once I got to the power lines, I didn't have to wait long for an answer to my question(s). I heard a sudden rustle of leaves in one of the nearby trees. I turned towards the tree and saw Daniel's head poking out of the leaves. “Hey Daniel!” I said with all enthusiasm. The dragon emerged from the multicolored leaves and landed on the ground. He ran towards me and slid to a stop in front of me. “Hey, I really missed you.” I said, petting his head. Daniel took a quick lick to the side of my face. “Well, I'm guessing you missed me too!” I said with a chuckle. The dragon just stared at me with contentment.
I began thinking of a good place for us to go today. The lake seems to be our quintessential walking spot, so that would be the best place for us to go after our separation. “How about we go take a walk at the lake?” I suggested. Daniel nodded at me, almost in a way that signified that he had the same idea as well. We made our way towards the lake, crossing the road after looking and listening for cars.
While we walked near the bank of the lake, something occurred to me. Daniel usually arrives at the rendezvous after me. Maybe he was early or maybe something else was going on. “I noticed you were earlier than me today, is there any reason for that?” I asked Daniel. We continued to walk without him giving answer to my question. “Daniel?” I asked again, trying to get his attention. He didn't look at me. I ran in front of him and stopped. “Daniel, what's wrong? Why are you ignoring me like this?” I asked, starting to get worried. The dragon sat down where he was, looked off into the lake's distance, and then back at me. He seemed to be down about something, my guess was my absence. “Were you sad when I was gone?” I asked, trying to get the details from him. He nodded, looking at the ground. I tried to think of some things relatable that I could ask him. I thought of a recurring issue I had during most of the week. “When I was at my Grandparent's, almost every afternoon, I would get ready to go outside, but halfway through the process, I would remember that you weren't there. Did that happen to you?” I said. Daniel nodded again. “How far would you get? Halfway, or all the way?” I asked. He nodded at the latter option. “All the way to the lines? You didn't do this all week, did you?” I asked, probably guessing what his answer would be. Daniel looked up at me and sadly nodded. “Aw, Daniel! I'm so sorry! I was only gone for a week!” I said, coming to a realization. Daniel nudged me a bit as the thought came to me. “Do you even know how long a week is?” I asked. The dragon then shook his head. “Oh!” I said, leaning my head back with sympathetic embarrassment. “I never thought about if you knew how long a week was. I'm sorry, Daniel. I should have clarified that.” The dragon nodded at me. “Well, that's helpful.” I said sarcastically about Daniel's nod. “A week is 7 days and that's about how long I was gone.” Daniel was in a brief state of realization, as his facial expressions showed. “The important thing to remember is that I'm back and we can continue our afternoons together.” I said to Daniel. We both smiled with this comforting thought in our heads.
We sat down by the lake for a while. I just did a lot of thinking. Another important thought came to mind, the needed flying equipment. “I haven't been able to look for any kind of flying equipment recently. I really need to get looking soon.” I said to Daniel. He seemed to be very interested in this subject. “I know I need a saddle, a special one for that matter, but I also need some kind of thing that I can attach myself to the special saddle. I'm not sure what I'm supposed to be looking for as far as that's concerned, but I'll keep my eyes open.” I said. The rest of the day went fine. Tonight, I told Daniel all about my week. All the family stories, all the things we had to eat for Thanksgiving, all of that. I think he really enjoyed the story about the Thanksgiving food. With everything that went on today, it's so great to be back home.

I was really looking forward to writing something like this, but since Thanksgiving "came up", I was able to do it!

Entry 46 – November 27, 2012 Before I went out to the power lines today, I did some searching for the saddle I needed. It didn't take me long to find out that this was gonna be a difficult thing to find. Regular horse saddles are pretty expensive (at least to me), so a specialty one like the one I have in mind is probably going to be even more. I then started thinking about the flying idea as a whole. I thought that we should probably have some idea what we're gonna do when (not if) I find the right equipment. Later that afternoon, I walked to the clearing. My Mom told me she was going shopping today and to have a phone nearby when she left.
Daniel swooped out of a tree a few minutes after I arrived. “Hey Daniel! How are you?” I asked. He just walked up to me with a silly smile on his face. I guessed that he was doing fine, especially since I was back from vacation. I thought I would go ahead and tell him my discoveries from earlier today. “I did some searching for a saddle and, at the moment, things aren't looking very good.” I said with a mildly disappointed tone. Daniel's ears went back at his expression changed to disappointed as well. “I'm still looking, so there's still a chance.” I said, trying to put an optimistic spin on the situation. Daniel briefly nudged me, apparently liking that I was still going to try and look for the equipment. “Hey, you wanna go back to my tree house?” I asked. The dragon nodded and quickly flew off the ground, towards the tree house.
I rushed over back towards my house to see Daniel sitting next to one of the trees that held up the tree house. “I think now you're mocking me.” I said, jokingly. Daniel looked a bit shocked at me with his jaw opened a bit. His expression sorta said “No, I'm not!”. I thought his reaction was pretty funny. “It's okay...” I said. Daniel calmed down a bit. “You're not mocking me that much.” I said with a laugh. The dragon went back to his previous expression, slightly.”Alright, I'm sorry. I'm just messin' with you.” I said to him, petting his head. The dragon purred at me with a grin. I then brought up the subject of what we would do on our first flight. I told Daniel that I didn't really have an idea for some of the details. I discussed things such as destination, speed, time, and other things similar. We did agree on some things, but others we still didn't have any idea.
The night went kinda the same as earlier, I threw out some ideas and asked Daniel what he thought of them. I think we have a better idea of what we'll do on that first flight, but we still need to plan out some other important technicalities. As for the equipment search, I'm still gonna keep looking. Giving up wouldn't make sense at this moment, maybe after searching high and low, but not now. Besides, I promised Daniel I would keep looking.

Entry 47 – November 28, 2012 Today was sorta mixed. It started out pretty bad, but ended up being really good. Somehow, my parents got me really annoyed. I don't remember what the context was, but they kept going on about it. These things usually don't get to me like they did today. It usually takes about 10-15 minutes for me to 'cool down'. I was in a bad mood the entire morning. When it was time to see Daniel, I was worried about visiting him in my current state. I didn't want to have a bad mood around him and potentially snap at him. As soon as I walked outside, I remembered how bad the weather had been this morning. It had rained all last night (sometime after I went back home) and some this morning as well. I put on a heavier jacket and went off.
I arrived at the power lines in decent time. Daniel was only about a minute behind me. “Hey Daniel.” I said, trying to mask my mood as much as I could. That attempt, however, was futile because Daniel glanced at me with caring concern. “Yeah...I'm guessing you can tell I'm a bit under the weather today.” I said to him, shifting my eyes to him and the ground constantly. Daniel made kind of a sad purring noise and nuzzled the side of my cheek. “Is there-anywhere specific you'd like to go?” I asked him. He sat next to me and took a couple of minute to think. Daniel looked like he wasn't just thinking of where he wanted to go, it looked more like he was planning something much more elaborate.
After he was done thinking, he nudged me to get my attention. I looked over at him and noticed that he was standing up with his neck lowered. “What are you doing, Daniel? I asked him. He made a quick roar and pointed back towards his neck. I realized what he wanted me to do. “Daniel, we don't have a saddle yet!” I told him. “And besides, I'm not sure if I'm quite ready to fly yet.” He shook his head and paced for a second. “Oh, so we'd just be walking?” I asked. Daniel walked over to me and nodded. “Hmm...I guess we can do that.” I said, thinking about why or why not to do this. I ultimately decided that I can trust Daniel and this really wouldn't be something too dangerous for me to really worry about. The dragon bend his neck over again for me to climb on to. “Alright...um...I guess I can sit down and just hold on to the side of your neck.” I said as I slowly moved my legs over Daniel. My eyes were wide at this moment just because of how new this was to me. This was quite the milestone. Daniel smiled back at me once I sat down. “Alright, go ahead and...take me where you want to go.” I said, not really thinking of what was next. Thankfully, Daniel started to walk slowly. Each step rocked me side to side a bit which made it hard to hold on, a saddle with handle will fix that. I did ask him to walk a bit faster a few times, however.
We stopped at the road to listen for cars and to cross (insert joke about dragon crossing the road here). Daniel stopped at the lake side. I went ahead and climbed off. The weather had started to give us a light mist. Daniel had started to walk along the lake side and waited for me to join him. As I was walking beside Daniel, I remembered that dream I had a couple of weeks ago and how Daniel tried to replicate it as much as he could. It seemed like he was trying to do that again. I was already in a good mood when I got here, so this only made it better. I noticed Daniel would look over at me from time to time, seemingly checking on me. I caught on to this and would look over at him as well. He seemed pleased that I was having a good time. It would be much harder to mask the smile I had on my face than it was to mask my bad mood. Soon, the weather started to get worse. The light mist turned into a shower. This made me think of the last time it rained there.
“Daniel, do you remember where that cave was?” I asked him. He nodded and ran over to the right into the forest. I picked up my pace, following him behind. We made it into the cave as the rain became more intense. I sat up against the cave wall next to Daniel, who was lying down. We looked at each other and smiled. “Well Daniel, you've really made my day today.” I said, petting his head. He sat up and licked my cheek with a grin. This made me start to laugh until I was about to start tearing up. I rubbed his neck as he lied down. We stayed in the cave until it was time to leave. Luckily, the rain had died down a good bit. I climbed onto Daniel's neck and we went back to the clearing.
Before I went to visit Daniel this evening, I did some more research for the saddle. Again, I didn't find much of anything. I told Daniel about this, still promising to keep looking. I never thought today would be the day I could say that I rode a dragon. It was a bit unwieldy holding onto the side of Daniel's neck, but it was still fun. Daniel really seems to know me. He knew exactly where to go today to cheer me up. It almost feels like he's the only one who understands me. I'm so glad to have a friend like that.

Author's Notes: This entry made me so happy when I decided to have Daniel let Alex ride him while going to memorable places. I actually had a "fan moment" when I initially thought of the idea. I was sorta inspired by my idea of what could turn a bad day around (at least for me). This is one of my favorite entries (if not favorite).

Entry 48 – November 29, 2012 I think it's safe to say that I've checked most of the popular sites for this saddle. I guess this means I'll have to do some deeper searching and to just keep trying. Today was pretty cold. I walked out with my regular hoodie and instantly found out that I should bundle up a bit more. After supplying myself with the proper apparel, I continued to the power lines. The rain from the previous day made it foggy today.
Daniel landed close to me only about a minute later. “Oh, hey Daniel!” I said, snapping out of 'the zone' after staring into the fog too long. He gave a brief snort that sorta sounded like he was trying not to laugh. The look on his face sorta supported this claim. Daniel was smiley and sorta avoided eye contact a bit. “So, how are you today?” I asked. He smiled at me and made a pleasant purr. “I'm doing good too, just a bit cold is all.” I replied. “Got any ideas to put on the ol' agenda?” I asked, shrugging my hands apart a bit. Without (much) hesitation, Daniel seriously nodded. I was a bit surprised that he didn't have to think much about what he wanted to do. Maybe he had it already planned today. I'm fine with that. “Alright. So...uh...where to?” I asked, still with that confused tone.
Daniel causally walked over to the middle of my side of the tree line and sat by one of the trees. Being even more puzzled than before, I walked over to Daniel and asked him what he was doing. The dragon simply looked up the tree. “What about this tree?” I asked him. He then jumped up and flew to one of the higher branches. “Ohhhh.....” I said with a bit of revelation and despair. “You want me to climb the tree with you?” I asked. Daniel nodded cheerfully. “Okay...” I said, feeling very reluctant. I scanned the tree, looking all the way to the top. This was a pretty tall tree.
I looked for the first branch I would climb up on, but there was a problem. The first row of branches were too high for me to jump up and grab. “Hey, I might need some help getting up to this first branch!” I yelled up to Daniel, who looked like to be admiring the view. He gave an affirmative grunt and glided down. “So, how are we gonna do this?” I asked him, thinking of how he could hoist me up. Daniel walked near the trunk of the tree and lowered his head. “No, Daniel. I'm not gonna stand on your head.” I said, rolling my eyes. I then had an idea. “Could you just lift me up with one of your paws?” I asked the dragon. It looked like he thought about it for a second and then agreed on it. Daniel sat by the tree and held his paw palm side up. Standing in front of him, I lifted up one of my feet, ready to jump up. “Ready?” I asked, with a bit of excitement now.
Daniel nodded. “Go!” I said, pushing my foot down to jump. Daniel launched his paw into the air with great timing, allowing me to jump up to the first branch on my feet. “Great job, Daniel! That was perfect!” I said with a smile. I looked down and saw him giving me a toothy smile back. “Alright, it's your turn to come up here!” I said down to the ecstatic Daniel. He easily launched up to a branch to the right of me. “You make it look too easy.” I said with a chuckle. We started climbing up the tree. At first, I took my time getting used to lifting myself up and placing my feet on the previous branch. I was already surprised with the view after just a few “levels” up. Being taller than me, it was much easier for Daniel, but he kindly emulated my pace. The higher we got up, the more the tree shook. This made me anxious.
I would slow down a bit when the tree would shake. I noticed Daniel looking over a me once and a while (I guess) to make sure I was still okay. After a while, we finally climbed as high as we could go. I sat down on my branch sideways, wrapping my arm around the trunk. Daniel stood on his branch just across from me. I looked around at this view the top of this tree provided. I could see a bit of the tops of the hills on both sides of the power line area of ours. The fog shortened the horizon I could see.
I shifted around to see my house and plenty other of our neighbor’s houses. I was glad I decided to join Daniel on this adventure, it was quite rewarding. After we had enough of our sightseeing, we made our way back down. Back on the ground, I remembered about the saddle issue. I told Daniel about how I still haven't found it yet and I'm still looking. This evening was really cold. Even though I was bundled up, I was still a bit cold. Daniel decided to bring me to the power lines and lit a fire. He let me sit leaned up against him. All that made it a nice night.

Entry 49 – November 30, 2012 I did a bit more searching today with little clue where to go next. Like I've said before, patience is key. It turned out to be another cold day which sort of made me want to stay closer to home. I went out and waited for Daniel at the clearing. When he arrived, I asked him what he wanted to do. He pointed towards the road, which I knew meant he wanted to go to the lake. I agreed and we started our way there. The wind started to blow, which felt like it was going straight through my coat. “Whew, it's getting cold.” I said, shivering with a smile. Daniel looked over at me mildly concerned. “What if we...uh...started a campfire over there?” I asked the dragon. Daniel nodded with a smile, seemingly liking that I made a suggestion that involved burning something. When we made it to the lake, I walked over to the edge and just looked towards the other side of the lake. There was a faint sound of leaves rustling in the trees that still had them. Soon, the wind knocked me out of “the zone”. It was time to build that fire.
The first step to this plan required us to find an open space. There was a nice spot further down the way. Next, we needed firewood, which wasn't as difficult as last time. Daniel found a knocked down tree and we were able to pick bits off of it. After everything was set up, Daniel went off on his own when I thought he was gonna light the fire. He came back walking on two paws (which looked very silly) with a rock for me to sit on. “Thank you, Daniel!” I said after chuckling a bit. Daniel lit the fire and we both enjoyed it's warmth. I briefly talked about my fruitless search today, just to give Daniel an update. I then brought up the main topic of interest: flying. “I can't wait to find this saddle, wherever it is...” I said to the dragon, who smiled in concordance. I started to think about what a flight would be like. “It does still seem like a scary thing being up in the air that high, but at this point, I shouldn't have anything to worry about.” I said, petting Daniel's head. He looked at me knowing that I trusted him, which is what I was implying in what I said. “Can you imagine all the places we could go? Or the places we could discover?” I asked rhetorically.
I knew flying would be faster than walking, for sure. So we would have a larger radius of area that we could explore. Daniel and I stayed at the lake until it was time to leave. When I started to get up and walk back to the clearing, Daniel stopped me. “What is it, Daniel?” I asked. He pointed his head toward his neck, then looked back at me. “Oh, okay.” I said, understanding what he wanted. So, I rode Daniel on the way back. He did seem to jump a few times on our way, which made it harder for me to hold on, but I was fine. This evening was (more or less) the same. We met up at my tree house, but we also walked around (until the wind was too much for me in the clearing).
We later sat down together as I talked more about our future flights. I sat leaned up against Daniel, who was laying down. I somehow fell asleep and woke up really late at night. “Oh...uh...did I fall asleep?” I asked the dragon. He nodded yes with a bit of a chuckle. “Oh, I'm sorry. I didn't mean to.” I apologized. Daniel nuzzled the side of my cheek a bit almost as way of saying “Don't apologize, I didn't mind it at all”. I smiled back at him and then checked my watch. It was 11 o'clock. “Oh crap! I need to go!” I said with urgency. “Good night, Daniel! Sorry I have leave like this, but...ya know.” Daniel neutrally nodded, indicating that he understood the situation. “See ya!” I said, waving back at him. Luckily for me, my parents didn't hear me sneak into the house and into my room. I think I need to be more careful.
