would like to start by saying this is my first (developed) fanfic. And as I'm not very good at figuring out what some canon characters might say or how, please PM suggestions if something from a character sounds off. As a note to the timeline and story, it will be weaved around the canon, which I will disrupt as little as possible, and will take place after the film and LotBD but before GotNF. Note that the Intro is basically a prologue for the prologue. ------------------------------------------ Introductions
My name is Jorgen Solid-Stone, and I am a viking. I once lived with my tribe on a small, desolate islan we called Dovangard, named after the chief who settled the tribe there a hundred years ago named Dovan the Hideous; so named because legend sais his mother died when she saw how ugly he was. The latest chief, grandson of Dovan the Hideous, is Arlend the Slow, and has been chief for little over a decade. The reason he's called the 'Slow' is because of his habit to wait until the last minute to try to solve a problem, no matter how urgent it is. But now back to me.
My mother's name is Edna, and she is Arlend's younger sister; and as Arlend has vowed to never father a child that makes me next in line to be chief. My fathe died when I was young while fighting off a Scauldron who wanted to nest under the village docks. As for myself, well, lets just say I'm not exactly a model of vikingness. I'm smaller, weaker and more seclusive than anyone on the island and can't even lift most of our standard weapons. As such, I was given the least respected duty on the island, Master of Dragon Study. Soon, however, I would be liberated from that life... at a terrible cost. ----------------------------------------------- Prologue
"DRAGONS!"
I jolted upright in my bed. Had I heard right, were we being attacked again? The same dragon has been attacking Dovangard every night for over a week, a massive and ferocious Bonenapper, and with each new attack it has more dragons helping it. I prayed to the gods it wasn't another attack.
"DRAGONS! Get the catapaults ready!"
Well that is just great. Once again the village will fight to survive, and once again I'll be stuck at the Great Hall with the elders and those too yound to fight while my friends and family fight to the death. As I crawled through the tunnels we had dug under the village as a means to get around during these attacks, I listened to noise of the battle going on just a foot above my head.
"Look out! Monstrous Nightmares coming from the east!"
"Nadders and Gronckles have destroyed the lower village! No one else got out!"
"Zippelbacks behind you!"
"Thor almighty! What is THAT!"
Moments later I heard a massive explosion, and before I knew what was happening, I felt myself getting flung into the air along with all the dirt and debris around me. On the way up, I caught glimpses of the battle; the lower village in flames, the Great Hall collapsing as people screamed from within, and worst of all the dragon. I only saw it for a moment and even then half the beast was in water, but it was easily larger than the entire village. The thing was terrifying, and I had never seen or even heard of a dragon like that.
On the way down, I was lucky enoughy to crash into a Gronckle, which lessened my speed and angled me to land in a small lake by the lower village instead of the village itself. When I hit the water, my vision went momentarily black and the air was ripped from my lungs. I still managed to crawl out, though everything hurt, only to notice the only sound on the island was of the destruction being caused by the dragons, no people... at all.
I then made the only sane choise available to me, I ran. I ran through the burning streets of the lower village, now deserted by dragons, for a way to the docks. Once I got to the docks all the ships were either on fire or sunk, but I wasn't here for those. I went and jumped off the end of the main dock and resurfaced beneath it. There, in the dark, barnacle encrusted underside of the dock moored a small raft.
I had put the raft there when I was younger, thinking to one day escape Dovangard and go on an adventure. But as I got older I abandoned the idea, but not the raft. Lately I had been using it to hide my most valuable possessions, yet now it will once more be a means of escape. I untied the raft and pushed it out from under the dock, climbed aboard, and began to quietly row out to sea hoping no dragon would notice me. I had no idea where I was going or if I would even make it there. My last image of Dovangard was of the island literally collapsing into the sea, the massive dragon circling it as if to speed the sinking along, and the Bonenapper hovering above the buning ruins of the Great Hall, roaring triumphantly into the heavens.

-Chapter 1- Welcome to Berk
I have long since lost track of how long I've been stranded at sea. But all that changed about two days ago when I first spotted land. For the last two days I have been rowing non stop to reach that speck of land, and now I approached the beach nearest my raft. Once I had landed, I took a moment to take in these surroundins. Today I shall rest, and tomorrow I will explore this new setting.
That night I had the best sleep since leaving Dovangard. That sleep was interupted, however, when I heard a sound I could recognize anywhere, dragons. I scrambled out from under my raft shelter in time to see them. Speeding out across the water I saw a blue Deadly Nadder and what I figured could only be a Night Fury, but then I saw that atop these dragons rode people! They're riding dragons!
I quickly gathered up my belongings and prepared to move. I watched the dragons move around the island and followed the direction they went. If they are just going around the island, then a village must be nearby. I came around a steep cliff and saw what I was looking for. Perched on the edge of the island stood a village.
As I approached the village, I saw the dragons set down somewhere on the other side. I hoped the locals didn't think I was here to attack. I knew I might look suspicious with the items i carried. On my arm I wore my father's old shield with a Scauldron painted on it. I also had his old ax, as well as my own, sheathed on my back. And in a sasch I wore on my side I carried several smaller tokens, including my Book on Dragons that I wrote all my dragon knowledge in.
As I entered the village I was met by a stout man with a large brown beard and missing his right hand and left foot, accompanied by a very tall fellow with a long blond beard, missing his right arm, and wearing a bucket on his head. They seemed to be carrying fish up from the docks.
"Oh my, what have we here? Where 'ya from little fella'." asked the sorter man.
I thought for a moment to decide what to say, before giving a brief truth, " From an island that's been destroyed by dragons. I fled the burning ruins of my village while the dragons poured into our Great Hall. I am seeking refuge, or at least a place to rest."
"Ooh, can we help him Mulch, can we please, he looks so tired?" asked the tall guy.
"Oh alright then. Better see the chief for that. C'mon Bucket, guess we're taking him to Stoick." replied the short one, Mulch. They led me through the village, stopping to drop off their fish, and guided me up a set of stone stairs.
Rather than take the stairs all the way up, to a large doorway which I figure must be their Great Hall, they brought to a house which seemed larger than most and was the last structure befor the Great Hall.
Mulch approached the door and knocked, "Stoick, 'ya home?" A big man man with a full brown-red beard and wearing a green tunic with a brown fur cape opened the door and responded, "What is it, Mulch?"
"Sorry to disturb ya', but we found this fella' outside the village, sais he's lookin' for a place to stay."
"Well then, it seems we have some discussing to do, come in. You can rest here for tonight, and tomorrow we can talk about your housing issue," Stoick told me before turning his attention to Bucket and Mulch, "good work you to, you can go back to what you were doing now." As they left, I took one more look at the sunset. I do hope this isn't my last one. Stoick offered to let me stay in his son's room, but I declined and set my stuff in the back corner of the house. I fell asleep as soon as I lay down.
I woke up when a banging sound started coming from the roof. I scrambled out of my makeshift bed and went outside to see what it was. I came around the front of the house only to see a Night Fury on top. The dragon jumped down from the roof and began to approach me slowly.
"Back! Back!" I yelled, myself baking up as I pulled dragon nip from a pouch on my belt. I did this because I knew from observation that if a dragon gets a good sniff of dragon nip it will essentially be subdued. I then remembered my knife, carved from the spike from a Nadder's tail, and drew that as well. The Night Fury growled and seemed to take a more aggressive stance. Just as the dragon began to rush towards me, a boy came out from Stoick's house.
"Heey bud..., whoa there Toothless! Hold up." at this the dragon stopped, but I kept my knife and dragon nip at the ready. The boy then stepped between me and the Night Fury, he seemed to be about my age, with brown hair and wearing a green tunic with a fur vest, and his left foot was replaced by a wood and iron device that seemed to use a spring to keep steady. "Good, now if you would please put away the knife and dragon nip, we can all take a breath." the kid said to me. I decided to take the safe choice and do as he said so as to not make the Night Fury, Toothless he called him, angry. "There see, he was curious, thats all. Then you made him feel threatened. Anyway, I'm Hiccup."
"I'm Jorgen, and did you say I made him feel threatened?"
"He didn't meen you any harm, but I guess it might take some getting used to to see dragons as friends. My father said you're here looking for a place to stay. Why is that?" asked Hiccup as he finished calming his Night Fury.
"Well, my home was destroyed by dragons and I barely escaped with my life. I figure I'm the last of my tribe, so I'm looking for a nice place to stay."
"Oh, well that explains a lot. If my dad lets you stay, my friends and I will show you around. Here he comes now. Good luck!" called Hiccup as he flew off on Toothless. I looked over and indeed Stoick was coming.
"Well, I see you're up and about. Now about your situation. Start from the beginning." said Stoick as he led me back into his house.
"My village was attacked by dragons, maybe a week ago, and they had been attacking us every night. But this time we just couldn't hold them off. The dragons overtook us and destroyed everything. I barely got away, and I believe I may be the last member of my old tribe. Iwas then stranded in the ocean. A couple days back I landed here, then I found my way to this village. I just want a place to stay, but if you won't have me I can leave."
Stoick took a few moments thinking, and I prayed that he would allow me to stay. "Well, I see no harm in it. You can stay. You can sleep here until we have a proper house for you. And I'm sure Hiccup will be able to give you a tour. Eh, what's your name lad?"
"It's Jorgen. Jorgen Solid-Stone, formerly of the Sea Pillar tribe."
"Well then, Jorgen, welcome to Berk."

-Chapter 2- In Dragons We Trust
After Stoick accepted me as a resident of Berk, I spent the rest of the day in the plaza, watching dragons and vikings working together and generally getting along. I also added to each dragon's entry in my Book on Dragons, detailing the helpful qualities of each type of dragon in every day life. In the distance I could see Hiccup and Toothless flying around with other dragons and their riders, the Deadly Nadder from the day before, a Monstrous Nightmare, a Hideous Zippelback, and a Gronckle.
That evening, Stoick and Hiccup hosted me for supper, as I didn't have a home to eat in myself. The meal seemed to be some sort of yak stew, and as it was my first real meal since I left Dovangard, I didn't have any objections to the taste. As it seemed that the people of Berk weren't visited by spice traders from the south, I assumed that I must have traveled north and maybe even west from Dovangard. That was also the most quiet meal I've ever eaten, it seemed to me that Stoick and Hiccup didn't want to be rude and say or do something that I may find offensive so they didn't talk. That night, as I settled into my bed spot, I realized that my tour of the island may very well be on dragon-back, since it was Hiccup and his friends giving the tour.
Once again I was jolted awake by a banging sound from the roof. Moments later, Hiccup came down the stairs from his room, but came over to me. "I see Toothless woke you, sorry about that. Anyway, we should go. The others should be meeting us in the plaza soon."
"Alright, I'm coming." I stood and stretched before following Hiccup out the door. Once I was outside, I saw that Hiccup was right; I could see the others from yesterday already at the plaza. I jogged to catch up with Hiccup and Toothless, still keeping my distance from the Night Fury. "Sooo, Hiccup, this tour won't by any chance be done on dragons, will it?" I asked as we neared the plaza.
"Don't worry, the dragons are realy quite friendly. And besides, it could help with your problems with dragons."
"So you really trust these dragons, believe that they can live in peace alongside people?" I asked, still very uneasy with the fact that I'll be on a dragon, and near four others.
"Absolutely! If it werren't for Toothless, I would have lost more than just a foot. And just look at how much easier life is when we're at peace with the dragons!" Hiccup responded as we arrived at the plaza. Waiting for us in the plaza were a rather large kid with a Gronckle, a stocky kid with a Monstrous Nightmare who seemed to be hitting on the girl next to him until her Nadder shot spikes at his feet, the girl and her Deadly Nadder, and a guy and girl, probably twins by the looks of them, who were hitting eachother while being watched by a Hideous Zippelback.
"Hey gang. I'd like to introduce our new resident here on Berk, Jorgen. Jorgen, these are Fishlegs and Meatlug," Hiccup ponted at the large kid and his Gronckle, "Snotlout and Hookfang," the stocky kid and his Nightmare, "Astrid... and Stormfly," the girl and Nadder, and I didn't fail to notice the slight pause after he said Astrid's name, "and then there's the twins, Ruffnut and Tuffnut, with Barf-and-Belch." After we were all introduced, I had a feeling my time on Berk might at least beee... interesting.
"Alright, um, Jorgen, you'll ride with me and Toothless if thats okay with you. And then we'll start." Hiccup told me while everyone got on their dragons. I reluctantly got on Toothless, though I trusted him a bit more than the other dragons, and we took off into the air. At first I felt the terror of when that mega dragon blasted me into the air, but then I began to feel exhilerated. I was flying! And on a dragon at that! It was like nothing I've ever experienced before.
The tour was all a haze afterr that. The village, the old Kill Ring, Raven Point Forest and Odin's Beach; it all went by in a flash. The tour was over before I could even get over the fact that I was flying. And when we landed, I truly felt a sense of disappointment. I began to wonder why we had spent our lives fighting them, when we could've been riding and living with them. I felt as if everything I once knew was wrong. even if I still only trusted the dragons as far as I could throw them, I didn't see the need to kill them anymore.
"Sooo," Hiccup said, snapping me back to the present, "what d'ya think?" He seemed to be grinning, anticipating my answer.
"Well, as for the tour, I think I'll like it here. And as for the dragons, I'm speechless. I really don't know what to say. I do think I may be a bit more comfortable around the dragons, so thanks." I replied, "And now if you'll excuse me, I'm going to go on a walk to calm down, see 'ya!" I waved and headed off towards the woods.
While out in the woods, I found a nice scenic spot to sit. I spent quite a while just sitting there, enjoying the view, and going over in my mind how amazing it had been to ride a dragon. As well as on how much the people of Berk seem to enjoy the dragons' company. If only my tribe had learned all this, before being destroyed; things would be so different. I looked to the sky and realized it was getting late, so I headed back to Stoick's home.
That night, I took a very particular trinket from my bag, a dragon-claw necklace. It was a family heirloom, at least six hundred years old. The claw once belonged to a now extinct breed of dragon called the Frozenferno, whose breath and venom were cold as ice, but could light their bodies on fire like a Monstrous Nightmare. This necklace was meant as a symbol of power within the Sea Pillar tribe, it showed that a member of the Solid-Stone clan was the most superior in the tribe, next to the chief. I had been debating as to whether or not to put it on, since I am the last of the Sea Pillar people. But like the other times I nearly put it on, I declined. I haven't earned it yet.

-Chapter 3- Book of Dragons
The next day went rather slowly. I have no job in this village, no purpose. And the other teens are flying dragons, something I wouldn't even try to do with the dragons in the village. So I spent most of the day walking the streets of Berk, getting to know the locals. One fellow I met, the blacksmith Gobber, was missing his left hand, but he had so many tools and such he could put in it's place! I swear he changed hands at least three times while I was talking to him.
The one thing I couldn't figure out was, how did they make peace with the dragons. Every person I asked said Hiccup could tell that story better than they could, whether they were just trying to get rid of me or something else, I don't know. At that point, I began to ask how long they've been at peace, which turned out to be about two months. It seemed I could only get the whole story from Hiccup, how convenient that I am currently living with him, for the moment. It seems the people here can build houses pretty quickly, tonight may be my last night where I can be at Hiccup's home for a long period of time without it being strange.
That night, Hiccup and his friends went up to the Great Hall, and I followed them. I stayed hidden though, I want to make sure I don't interrupt anything important, though I doubt that will be the case. I entered the Great Hall and got a good look at it's size. It's hard to tell from outside, since the Great Hall is in a mountain, but it is a pretty good size. I imagine you could fit all of Berk, dragons included, and still have room to move around.
I saw Hiccup and his friends sit around a table further back in the Great Hall, and I sneaked up to get a better view. I can't make out what they're saying, but I saw Hiccup pull out a large book, it actually looked a lot like my Book on Dragons. I quickly checked to make sure I still had my Book, as I always keep it on me, and thank Thor it was still there. But if I still had the Book on Dragons, then that might be Berk's own version. I couldn't hold back my curiosity any longer, so I stepped out into plain view, "Hey guys."
"Oh, ah..., hey Jorgen. Didn't see you there." Hiccup said, taking a step forward.
"Sorry about that, I didn't want to interrupt if you guys were doing something important. By the way, what is that?" I asked, pointing to the large and worn book on the table.
"Oh, this," Hiccup gestured to the book, "this is the Book of Dragons. This is where we record all of our knowledge about the dragons. Fishlegs and I have been updating it since we made peace with the dragons."
"Really?" Ehhh, what the heck. It can't do any harm if I show them mine. "I have a book just like that, managed to save it when my village was being destroyed." I pulled out my Book on Dragons and set it on the table with the Book of Dragons.
"Wow! Its got so many more pages than ours!" exclaimed Fishlegs as he began to flip through the pages, "How many dragons are in here?"
"Oh..., I've lost count. Has everything about every dragon my tribe ever knew about." Except one. I can guarantee that most of those dragons are extinct; after all, I wrote that book myself." I said, glad to see someone actually interested in my work.
"Really? How do you know so much about the extinct dragons if they are extinct?" asked Fishlegs.
"Well, I used skeletons and old images where I could, then filled in the rest with what I figure to be reasonable guesses." I said, "Hey! I know! What if we went over and read eachother's versions to compare our knowledge of dragons! Who knows, we might all learn something new."
"Hey, that's not a bad idea. Each of us might know something the other doesn't, and this is a great time to share knowledge!" Hiccup added.
"Wait. Did you say 'reading' and 'learning', yeaaah..., I'm out." said Tuffnut; "Me too." added Ruffnut.
"I'm going with them. I don't need to read a book to know about dragons!" Snotlout exclaimed as he followed the twins out of the Great Hall. That left just Hiccup, Astrid, Fishlegs and myself. Hiccup, Astrid and Fishlegs all gathered by my Book on Dragons, while I moved down the table a bit with their Book of Dragons. I saw some familiar dragons in their Book, such as the Nadder and Gronckle, but also some new ones. One dragon, the Terrible Terror, seemed to be the smallest dragon yet still dangerous; while the Timberjack looked like something to truly fear.
Among the dragons in their Book, I found a newer entry that I was very familiar with, the Bonenapper. The same type of dragon that destroyed my home and all those I loved. But even after the Bonenapper entry, I couldn't find anything along the likes of the mega-dragon. Well, I guess if I encountered one, which I did, I wouldn't put it in the Book on Dragons, which I won't; so there is still hope that these guys might know something.
"Hey, Hiccup, Fishlegs, there is still one dragon I don't have documented in there that I know about. I don't see it in the Book of Dragons either. I was wondering, have you ever heard of some sort of mega-dragon. Huge, ferocious, utterly unstoppable?" I asked across the table.
"Umm..., Hiccup. That sounds a lot like the Red Death." Fishlegs said, with a worried tone to his voice.
"Yeah, I know what it sounds like," Hiccup told Fishlegs, before turning to me, "when and where did you encounter this... 'mega-dragon'?" I told them the full story of how my village was destroyed. Hiccup looked troubled for a moment before responding, "Well it can't be the Red Death, we know she's dead."
"Sooo, you're saying there are more of those?" Astrid asked rather worriedly, "It was hard enough to take one down."
"Well apparently there are. It doesn't seem to be a threat for now, though, so let's just keep this to ourselves." said Hiccup.
"Would someone please explain to me what this 'Red Death' is, and what it has to do with the mega-dragon!" I asked, hoping they'll tell me how they defeated it.
"Okay, you deserve an explanation. Astrid, Fishlegs, you guys can go on. I'll tell Jorgen the story about the Red Death." Hiccup said. Once Astrid and Fishlegs left, Hiccup began his story, "Well I guess it all started when I shot a Night Fury out of the sky..."

Sorry, but this isn't a very long chapter, had some major blocks while writing it . Enjoy! --------------------------------------- -Chapter 4- New Beginnings With Old FriendsI barely got any sleep that night, due to the story Hiccup told me. It took most of the night just for me to go over everything in my head! But I won't dwell on that, after all, today is a big day for me. Today I finally become a true inhabitant of Berk, and a guest-member of the Hooligan tribe. As the sun rose, I gathered up my things and stepped outside. I could see Toothless sleeping besides Hiccup's home, but then I had a flashback to three years ago, when I had started my Book on Dragons. It was a morning similar to most on Dovangard, cold and rainy, but something was different. There, next to my tower and chained to the ground was a Night Fury. The beast had been taken down the night before when I accidentally fired a catapult while taking notes on a Gronckle who had been stuck in a net, the stone that was launched struck the Fury square in the back and broke the bones in it's wings. Because I had taken the beast down, the honor of killing i was reserved for me; problem was, it had to be done in the Dragon Ring, which was our Kill Ring. That didn't go well as the Night Fury knocked me unconscious and nearly killed me inunder a minute. Luckily I still had some friends, and they saved me. I shook that memory from my head. No use to me now. I resumed my walk to my new home. Stoick had told me they built my home at the edge of the village, so that I would have a quiet place to retreat to, while still being nearby. When I had talked to Gobber a couple of days ago, he mentioned some 'special modifications' and 'fresh ideas' that he was implementing into the house, and to be honest I am quite curious to see what he did. I stopped in the plaza when I found a yellow Nadder sleeping in the middle. I didn't think much of it at first, this is Berk after all. I'll just sneak around. But then I saw the tail. The tail was horribly wounded, though all scars now. I could recognize those scars anywhere. This was not some random Nadder, I had named her Sunfire before saving her life in return for when she had saved mine. It was a night, about two years ago, that was filled with the sounds of a dragon raid. This was still early in the writing of the Book on Dragons, so I figured I'd go outside and take some notes on how different dragons fought, biggest mistake ever. It didn't take long before a Monstrous Nightmare had me cornered. But then the impossible happened, this Nadder swooped down and drove the Nightmare back. While I had been registering the fact that a dragon had saved me; Doren the Crafty, our blacksmith, and a few others managed to catch the golden Nadder. I had known why they kept her alive too, we were still unfamiliar with Deadly Nadders, so naturally we would want to know more. At the time, I knew full well she would enter the Pit of Agony, where Groghim the Terrible would torture her to learn all her secrets. After she had been taken away, though, I had been plagued by terrible nightmares about how she was being treated after saving me, so I planned to rescue her. Three days later, I snuck into the Pit of Agony, found her cell, and cut her loose. This was when I named her Sunfire, after reading Groghim's notes about her magnesium flame. It had been too dark in the dungeon to see, but once I got Sunfire outside into the moonlight I could see the terrible wounds along her tail and legs. I patched those up once we were away from the village. Thankfully, her wings were fine and so once I patched her wounds, I goaded her to leave and never come back. I still hated dragons, though, because I saw it as me repaying a debt. "Sunfire! You're here too?" I exclaimed, feeling a sense of relief knowing she was still well. Her head popped up and I could tell she recognized me. She jumped up and moved towards me, clearly gald to see an old face. She nuzzled me affectionatly, as if we had been friends forever. "Hey Sunfire, long time, huh? But you should know, the main reason I'm here is because Dovangard was destroyed." After I said that, Sunfire made a sound which seemed to show pity. "Yeah, well. Oh, you wan'na come see my new home here on Berk? Thats where I was heading anyway." Sunfire seemed to like that idea and she came with me when I continued towards where my house is. Back at the Haddock home, I could see Toothless and Hiccup take off. I should hurry, don't want to be late. Gobber wanted to start my home tour bright and early. I finally saw my home, and it was certainly unique. It looked like it had two floors, but also had a covered rooftop deck. Then I saw Gobber waiting at the door of my new home, and knew that this tour is going to be just as unique as the house. "Well now I see why you're late, made a new friend have 'ya now." Gobber said as I got up to the house. "Not so much 'made a new friend' as met an old one frome way back. Her name's Sunfire." I told Gobber, "We kind of have a habbit of saving eachother's lives." After chatting for a bit, Gobber said he would add a pavilion on the side of the house for Sunfire, then we began the tour. I stepped inside the house and knew Gobber may have gotten carried away. Right inside the doors were swinging ax blades, and on the second floor I saw miniature catapults by sections of wall which must open up. I knew better than to try and question Gobber's logic, though, so I just went along with the tour. Once Gobber finished showing me around, he brought me to the rooftop deck, and the view was great; Sunfire even came up and perched on the roof next to the deck. Now that I have a home, I can live normally again; or as normally as it can get on Berk. And with Sunfire by my side, as the only dragon I truly and fully trust, I do think I should be able to fit in just fine.

sorry for the long wait(due to many things ), but I finally present the next chapter ------------------------------ -Chapter 5- Rising StormIt took a few weeks, but I am now a complete part of Berk. I am finally settled into my home, now that I have quietly removed all the "modifications" Gobber had added; and Sunfire enjoys staying in the pavilion on the side of my house, built from my old raft. Sunfire and I have even practiced flying together. And then once a week Sunfire and I go on a long distance fishing trip which lasts about two days, made possible by a small island we found and since have built a simple little shelter to stay at. This island, which I named Rest Place, is where Sunfire and I are now. I was woken by a loud and thunderous boom. I quickly got up and went to the window hole in the wall and looked outside, and sure enough, I saw dark storm clouds across the sky. "Sunfire!" I called, and she stuck her head into the shelter, "Time to go, girl. We don't want to be stuck out here in this weather. We should warn the others too, storm seems to be blowing north, right towards Berk." I grabbed our catch of fish and headed outside. Once the baskets of fish were strapped to Sunfire, we took off towards the north. "Sorry to push you like this, Sunfire, but this storm is real bad!" I called over the wind as more lightning arced through the sky,"Now I need you to give this your all! We need to get out of here, and quick!" Wind howled and thunder boomed as we sped back to Berk, and an hour later we were clear of the storm. "Good job, Sunfire! Go ahead and take it a little easier on the way back. We still need to warn the others, though." I said, and Sunfire seemed to agree. It was evening by the time Sunfire and I got back to Berk, but I could tell we were noticeably early. The people who noticed us no doubt wondered why we were back so soon and why we had fewer fish than normal. We put our fish catch into the store house, then I headed towards Stoick, who was waiting for me in the plaza. "All right, what's wrong? You never come back from one of your trips so early, and with such a small catch." Stoick demanded once I reached him. "Stoick, sir, you should get the village ready. My trip was interrupted by a massive storm, and it seemed to be coming this way!" I told him as Gobber came over from his smithy. "I don't know, Stoick. Maybe Thor was just mad at something over there. After all, who ever heard of a storm moving long distances, everyone knows Thor makes 'em where he wants 'em." "Please, sir. My tribe had knowledge gathered from many tribes. That storm will reach Berk, probably in a few days! You need to prepare!" I urged. Stoick sighs before he responding, "Lets go check with Gothi, just to be sure." "Fine. I'll leave it to Gothi to determine whether we should get ready for the storm or not." I said with resignation. Ahh, well, I thought, Gothi can probably see the storm from her house anyway. With the storm consuming my thoughts, I followed Stoick and Gobber up the mountain Gothi lived atop of. When I got my first clear look at Gothi's house, my first thought was how is that house still up here. The structure stood on numerous stilts that somehow managed to keep the house securely in place. Once we were at Gothi's house, I noticed the view. From the porch I could see for miles on end in every direction, and out at sea to the south, just above the horizon, was a dark smudge. The storm really will be here in just a few days! Gothi watched us approach before Stoick asked "Gothi, I seek your consul. Is there a storm coming to Berk?" Gothi used her staff to draw shapes on the ground that I, for one, could not decipher. Gobber stepped forward and read the drawings "'Are you blind?' Eh?", he shrugged at Stoick. Gothi shook her head and whacked Gobber in the head with her staff, then pointed out towards the southern horizon. "Ooh. So there will be a storm." Gobber said. "Thank you, Gothi. Now we should prepare the village." Stoick said, "Come along, Jorgen, you and Sunfire ought to help too." I followed Stoick and Gobber back down to the village. Once we got back in the village, Stoick warned everyone about the coming storm, and every person and dragon began preparing the village. I've never seen so many homes boarded up so quickly before, but I guess that comes with having dragons. While most everyone were busy getting the village ready, Sunfire and I patrolled from above to make sure there were no accidents. Stoick also asked that I keep an eye out for Hiccup an the others. A couple of hours later, the village was as ready to weather a storm as it could ever be. However, that storm moved quick and has already covered half the distance from when I saw it from Gothi's house, at this rate it might even hit tomorrow. Stoick had already ordered all the people and village dragons into the Great Hall. He was waiting outside the massive wooden doors when Sunfire and I landed next to him. "Have you seen them?" Stoick asked worriedly, referring to Hiccup and the others. "No." "Well they need to get back here, that storm is moving fast! I need you to go find them." Stoick ordered. "I'll head out at once. We'll be back before the sun dips below the horizon!" I called as I got back on Sunfire." C'mon, girl. I know you're tired, but we aren't done yet! Now, find the Night Fury!" I told Sunfire as we lifted into the air. We flew over towards Raven Point Forest first, that seemed a good starting point. It took another hour, but we finally found them. I found them near the edge of the woods, competing in an agility competition with their dragons. Sunfire set down right before Snotlout and Hookfang took off, landing right in front of them. "Hey!" Snotlout yelled indignantly, "We're trying to have a competition here!" I ignored him and called over to Hiccup, "Hey, Hiccup. Your dad wants us all back at the village. A storm is coming, and coming fast!" "All right! We'll be right with you. Come on, guys." Hiccup said as he got on Toothless. "Whatever, you just don't want to lose the agility race to me!" Snotlout called to Hiccup. We then flew quickly back to the Great Hall, and hunkered down for the storm.

sorry it took so long for a shorter than normal chapter, but here it finally is --------------------------- -Chapter 6- When Lightning Strikes
Living with that storm outside was difficult. The storm lasted nine days and we waited an extra day to be safe, but with everyone so close together and the dragons freaking out at the thunder, I'm amazed we even survived the storm and kept the Great Hall intact. By the end of the storm, all the tables were stacked against the door since the wind had been so violent, but now all was quiet. Stoick gave the word and we moved the tables and opened the doors. The village was a mess.
From the Great Hall, I had a good view of the damage Thor did to the village. There were blast marks on the ground, some houses had been lit on fire by the lightning or just blown down by the wind, and broken tree parts were scattered all over the place. Slowly, everyone else came out of the Great Hall to see the village.
"Awesome! So much destruction!" exclaimed Ruffnut.
"Thor should come by more often!" agreed Tuffnut.
"Well, it actually isn't too bad," said Gobber, "just need to clear the broken bits and fix a few houses and it should all be good as new!"
Stoick made his way to the front of the crowd and turned to face everyone. "All right! I know the village may seem a mess, but we've all seen worse. Spitelout," Stoick said to a man I recognized as Snotlout's dad,"you lead a group and start fixing the houses; Gobber, you take everyone else and start making replacement parts for the more severely damaged homes." People started moving into the village to do their assigned duties, but Stoick held Hiccup and his friends back, as well as me. "Hiccup, I need you and your dragons to clear the debris and gather fresh wood for Gobber."
Hiccup looked up at his father,"Right, we can do that. No problem." Stoick seemed to be about to say something, but must have reconsidered and headed down into the village.
"All right gang," Hiccup said as he turned to the rest of us,"Fishlegs, Ruff, Tuff, and I will stay here and clear the debris. Astrid, Snotlout, and Jorgen, you guys'll go get more wood for Gobber." After Hiccup divided up our jobs, we all got on our dragons and went where we were needed. While flying to the forest with Snotlout and Astrid, however, I separated myself. Mainly I didn't want to listen to Snotlout all day, but I also needed some space after all that time crammed in the Great Hall. Sunfire and I turned to the south woods while Snotlout and Astrid continued towards the north woods.
"All right Sunfire. That spot there looks good don't 'ya think?" I said when I spotted a clearing below. Sunfire landed and I got off to see if the trees were good enough for housing. They were, but now I need to figure out how to topple one with just a small ax ad a dragon.
"I got it! Sunfire, I need you to start burning the base of the tree, keep your fire going slow and steady." She began burning through the base of the tree, while I made sure the whole tree didn't catch fire. After a little while the tree began leaning, and then it fell over. Sunfire and I cleared away the branches and cut the log in half so that Sunfire could fly with it. After flying the logs back, we repeated the process.
After several hours of work, Sunfire and I were both exhausted. The sun was setting and Sunfire and I had to bring in our last log before we could call it a day. Sunfire was drinking from a creek while I sat against a tree. Sunfire suddenly looked up and searched the treeline on the other side of the creek.
"What is it, girl?" I asked as I got up. Then I heard it. Something big was across the creek. "C'mon, Sunfire. Lets go deliver that last log." I said, eager to get away from whatever was clearly watching us. Sunfire roared once into the trees before following me back to the clearing. After that we got our log and flew back to the village in silence. We dropped the log off at Gobber's blacksmith and went home to rest.
The next day, I announced plans to go on another fishing trip. This was approved by Stoick, especially since the food storehouse was one of he buildings damaged by the storm, and much of the food was ruined or gone. This trip would also give me time to think. Even though it had been nerve-racking at the time, I kept thinking about yesterday by the creek with that mystery creature watching me and Sunfire. I found myself wanting to go back, to find out what it was and why it had been watching us.
I spent most of the day helping out around the village. Most of the places that had been damaged in the storm were fixed already, it was just a matter of finishing details and furniture for those who lost their homes entirely. The sky was still filled with clouds, but there were no signs of lightning or strong gusts of wind. That evening, we had our first snowfall of the season, and I began to hear whispers around the village about some upcoming holiday a couple of weeks away.
I got up the next morning to find my door jammed shut. I went upstairs and opened the shutters above Sunfire's pavillion. It must have snowed all night! I climbed out onto the pavillion and made a sharp whistle. Sunfire popped out from her pavillion and looked up at me.
"Hey, good morning Sunfire. I'm gon'na need you to catch me, okay!" I called down before I jumped. Sunfire caught me perfectly on her back, and I could see that my door was blocked by a pile of snow. "Good catch!" I said,"Now lets go fishing." I strapped our fish baskets onto Sunfire and we took off. Hopefully this time we won't be stopped early by a storm.

And now I present the longest chapter to date(and my personal favorite)! __________________ -Chapter 7- Creature in the Woods
I stood up from examining the tracks. I was at the clearing that me and Sunfire had gotten wood from about a week ago. During that time, I just could not stop thinking about that thing Sunfire and I heard, so I decided to try and track it down. So far, I've had little progress.
I did confirm it was a dragon, the tracks were all over the clearing and by where Sunfire had detected it, but I don't recognize what kind of dragon they came from. Now I am urged to find this dragon so I can record it in my Book on Dragons! I can't find where the dragon went after the clearing, though, best I can figure is that it started walking east and then flew... somewhere.
Whats worse is, I know its close. The last couple of times I've come out here, I've noticed signs which indicate that not only has this dragon been coming back here, but on some occasions its actually watched while I try to find it. And its watching me now, too. I think I even know where it is, the question is how do I lure it out into the open?
I decided I may as well go home, not much more I could do anyway. When I got back to the village, I had an idea. I can just show the dragon that I don't mean it any harm! Like how Hiccup got Toothless to trust him! As I got near my house, Sunfire rushed up to make sure I was all right. I knew she didn't want me to get hurt from this dragon, and so I've been sneaking out each day so Sunfire couldn't follow me and potentially scare off the dragon.
"Hey girl. Don't worry so much Sunfire, as you can see, I'm perfectly fine!" I told her as I rubbed her snout and scratched her behind her jaw. Sunfire responded with a low and almost sad moan that I figured meant either she couldn't help worrying, or someone had died. I was inclined to believe the former.
The next morning, I decided I would take a break from searching for the dragon. Instead I gathered up some old Nadder spines, or at least as many as I could find, and brought them to my rooftop deck, more so Sunfire could see me and know I wasn't in the woods. I began carving the spines, but instead of making daggers like the one I had, I used an idea I got from a strange trader who had passed by Dovangard on his journey to the "Land of Endless Ice".
This trader, who for some reason had darker colored skin, had been carrying knives that were clearly not meant to be used in melee combat. I had understood little of what he told me, due to his strong and foreign accent, but I understood the general idea. The knives were meant to be thrown. And now I wanted to see if I could carve throwing knives from a Nadder's spine. By the end of the day, I had several different designs for my Nadder spine throwing knives. I'll have to test these, but that can wait 'till tomorrow.
When I stepped outside the next morning, I was saw Sunfire come over to check on me. "Its okay, Sunfire! I'm just going into the woods to practice with these throwing knives! I swear I won't go looking for that dragon today." I said to her as I started walking towards the woods. Sunfire looked like she was still worried, but she didn't follow me so I guess she decided to trust me.
When I entered the woods, I decided to head to Hiccup's Cove, rather than my clearing. Mainly because it was closer than the clearing and I didn't want to disrupt the dragon. Eventually I found a nice spot overlooking the Cove, and laid out my different knife designs on a rock. I spent most of the day throwing those knives, some broke and I lost a couple, but I still hadn't found out which one was best. I looked over the remaining knives and picked one that I had designed to be razor sharp.
When I threw that knife, I missed my target tree entirely, but I heard the knife stick into something by it. The sound was immediately followed by a roar of pain and a dragon, no the dragon, leaped out of the bushes and moved menacingly towards me. I saw the knife sticking out from the base of the dragon's first spine. Oh great, and I came here to avoid the dragon! The dragon was big, about the size and shape of a Nightmare, and had a frill of spikes on it's head and large spines going down it's back and tail. The dragon was a dark shade of gray, but it had a light blue accent color. It's eyes were golden yellow and filled with pain and anger.
For some reason I heard a cracking and hissing sound, I figured I was so scared I was hearing things. Then I noticed the spark. I watched more closely and noticed that the dragon was sparking all over with static! The dragon growled and started building up a blast of fire, when a fireball struck the dragon in the side and knocked it away by the blast. Never have I been so glad that Sunfire had been spying on me.
I looked in the direction the fireball had come from and sure enough, I saw Sunfire fly down and land next to me. She roared at the dragon and moved so that she could protect me. The dragon got back up and roared at Sunfire. Sunfire roared back and shot at it again. The dragon flew up and dodged, Sunfire fired another blast that hit the dragon right in the chest, causing it to fall. The dragon hit the ground with a sickening snap!
When the dragon got back up, I noticed that the first spine had snapped off and now lay on the ground. The dragon was so enraged it flew up then dove down and slammed into Sunfire. Sunfire roared out in surprise as they both fell into the Cove. I could hear Sunfire continuing to fight the dragon, but I ran over to the spine to examine it.
The spine was pure black, and about a foot long. I tried to grab it but I dropped it in pain. I saw that my hand was cut where I had grabbed it. Sharp, got it. I took some leather strips from one of my pouches and wrapped them around the spine to make a grip. I heard a crash from the Cove, so I grabbed the spine and ran to the edge. Sunfire and the dragon have been busy.
The Cove was a mess. Blast marks were everywhere and several trees were either broken or smoldering. I noticed several small fires starting throughout the Cove, and I saw more than a few yellow Nadder spines. Sunfire must really be fighting hard if she's using her few remaining spines! In the middle of the Cove, right in the lake, Sunfire and the dragon were still fighting. The dragon had several bite marks on it's tail and legs, and a Nadder spine was stuck in it's shoulder, but it looked like Sunfire was losing this fight.
I could tell even from a distance that Sunfire's old scars must be bothering her, and some seemed to have reopened. Sunfire also bore several newer cuts, apparently she also learned about the razor sharp spines the hard way. Sunfire and I needed to get away, she couldn't keep fighting like this. "Sunfire!" I called, "Bring it back up here! I have a plan!" At first I didn't know if she had heard me or not, but then I saw her take off and blast the dragon before flying into the woods with me. The enraged dragon followed her up. I looked around quickly and found what I was looking for. "There! Sunfire, smash that dragon into the small tree over there!" I yelled.
Sunfire feinted a strike to the dragon's side then swung her tail and hit it right under it's jaw. The dragon was launched off it's feet and Sunfire flew over and grabbed it's underbelly and threw it into the tree I had selected. As planned, the tree, already weakened by the dragon fight, fell on top of the dragon's wing. I felt bad, doing that to a dragon that I had provoked, but Sunfire couldn't have kept up that fight for long. "Good job, girl." I said to Sunfire as I carefully climbed onto her, "Now let's go home and rest up." We flew home as the dragon roared in anger and pain from the woods.
