The visuals are pretty good with this. And plus, honestly, as long as it has heart, I'm happy.
And this is a show with heart.

And how DID I get that score? Well, I wrote it down myself. Perfect pitch + near-eidetic memory of almost any music I've heard in the past few years = Profit when it comes to my dictation abilities. In my manuscript binder I have sketches of "This is Berk," "Astrid Goes For a Spin," "Coming Back Around," "Romantic Flight," etc., most of them solely from memory (one problem: they are all unplayable on a single keyboard). Although, my handwriting is almost as bad as Beethoven's, so no one will be able to read whatever mess I wrote until I engrave it on my computer. Wow. You're amazing. Would you be willing to share your This Is Berk and Astrid Goes For a Spin music sheets? I really want to learn the themes from both of them, but I wasn't comfortable translating the rapid diminished-seventh (?) measures in both of them. I was able to translate the opening from This Is Berk (up to the diminished-sevenths), Test Drive up to the "panic", and all of Romantic Flight, so I'm willing to share those too if anyone wants them. EDIT: Unfortunately, I didn't scan my translations, and right now they're at home while I'm at college. I guess it'll be six weeks before I get my hands on my translations again. EDIT2: Oops, six weeks, not six months.

Currently working on a reduced 4-stave score of all prominent voices (I actually am a horrible pianist) of This is Berk, so you should be able to extract some interesting stuff from that Meanwhile, help yourself to the first four pages of the score that I stupidly wrote onto really thin paper: docs.google.com/file/d/0BzRfBXBdGXiCR0tpQnU3MjdoOXc/edit?usp=sharing(You'll have to download the pdf and zoom in to read all the notes) But turning this train from rushing straight to Station Tangent, what's the consensus on voice actors? I thought the substitute for Gobber was really good, but the Stoic substitute just didn't have the 300-esque charisma that Gerard Butler had.

I thought all the voice actors were great. Stoick is not quite the same, but I chalk a lot of it up to sentiment change--- from always wartime gruffness to more of a softer approach. Calmer Berk, calmer Stoick.
I'm watching the movie at the moment (oh yes.) so I'm trying to recall the difference.
But honestly, I don't detect much stand-outish difference, like I have with some other shows.
You know... they being older in HTTYD 2 is going to be bittersweet. I'm hoping they do a lot more TV series with them at the current age. I really like them how they are, and I feel the world of Berk deserves a lot of delving into. As well as the characters.
Once in a while I come across some stories/characters that I really want to immerse myself in and enjoy immensely. This is one of them.

Well I wasn't just talking about the tone of voice in conversational context but the voice in general. I feel like Butler had much more of a monotonous voice, rather relying on the variation of grit in his voice for mood. The TV voice of Nolan North (OMG, Nathan Drake?) sounds... I wouldn't say jovial, but there is definitely much more variation in pitch, somewhat resemblant of Gobber's. Although, this might just be my brain messing with me.

I do see what you're saying. However, I do think Nolan's voice works well for Stoick as well. There's some diffeence I detect, but it's not nearly enough for me to care. And even if I did notice, like I said, I think they both do good Stoicks.
I wonder... is the world ready for a Defenders of Berk speculation/anticipation thread, or should we keep sequel speculation to here for now?
I'm inclined to think the latter, since we have only the RoB ending to go off of, saving the DoB thread for later in the summer with more information.
