Only the part where Hiccup incarnated Ethan Hunt (Mission Impossible) was a bit exaggerated, but the rest of the episode was really good. Also I think that this episode cut the randomness from the previous one bringing back the plot from the preview episodes.

What does that mean? the part where a piece of Hiccup's sweat (his DNA!) drops on Fungus...or the part where he uses the rope to lower himself into that stupid dragon framer guy Mildew's house...what part? I'm confused...that forbidden friendship-sorta redo was so touching!!!

This episode really did have a good opening and ending. All of it was pretty awesome, but I do love those especially. I was tearing up at the end. Just...sob. Toothless just looked so forlorn and I just wanted Hiccup to stay because Toothless. >8
But I did so love the beginning too. I just kind of love when Hiccup is willing to let himself fall like that. One part is because it kind of amuses me that HICCUP of all people is showing some adrenalin junkie tendencies, like you'd get with people who do extreme sports. But also the feeling of trust he has to put into Toothless. And the amount of trust Toothless has to put into Hiccup to make sure they get together or else they'll both die.
But it also seems even more amazing when I think about Test Drive. With that big fall of theirs, the fact they're willing to do it deliberately after that is amazing. Though it was also after that fall that Hiccup finally trusted his instincts pretty fully. It's just like they're both saying 'I know this is going to work out okay' whenever they go for falls like that deliberately.

I really loved the part where Hiccup and Toothless say goodbye to eachother... I really liked this episode. Though CF stopped the stream in the middle of next episode's clip... But I look forward to see Ep 6 xD Not much to say ATM. I'll think later. OH NO!!! I'm so sorry! O.o I had to leave for a thing. It was done on my end, so I figured cutting it after it was done would show you guys the whole thing, too. (I was ahead by 4 seconds apparently) I'm really really really really really really sorry. :C

A random thought. You know, it really might be possible for them to have gotten gunpowder from trades.
I mean, apparently Vikings can get CHOCOLATE. Enough to name that a dragon emits that scent. So there must be some way they'll go on long trips sometimes. And I'm pretty sure places like China had gunpowder for quite a while.

So this DID end up being our first two-part story! I'm even more inclined now than before to put the shakiness of some of the earlier episodes down to Early Installment Weirdness. This episode is definitely good, and shows a LOT of promise for things to come. This episode was not only much darker, but definitely more plot driven (rejoice!). I dunno about you guys, but that's what I was craving from this series from the start. Plus, they did still keep humor in it, but much more the "poke a hole in the moment" type, where the humor is used in contrast to a serious scene, rather than gratuitous gags like we saw so much of in Terrible Twos and Dragon Academy. And that scene on the dragon island! *Sniffle* Oneill pointed out in the Pacific stream that they found a use for a pretty bit of music written for the film that got cut but left on the soundtrack, and it worked really well there. The callback with Toothless nudging Hiccup's hand is what sent me scrambling for my plushy NF Pancake just to have something to hug in that scene. XD I do wonder what changed behind the scenes between the earlier episodes and this one. Did they stumble on a good idea partway through storyboarding, and decide to scrap their tone while leaving the episodes in the pipeline alone? Or maybe there was some executive pressure or meddling to have a kids' show initially, only to then show this awesomeness and get the pressure for a lighter show repealed? Because in many respects, the earlier ones now seem like they came from a different show entirely in some ways. (I have WAY too much curiosity for my own good. Seriously, what's out there that's more inquisitive than a cat? A zombie cat? A ferret? . . . yeah, let's go with a ferret. I'm a nosy little ferret.)

This is great episode. The best so far. I noticed that Hiccup took off only the saddle. But not the tailfin. :3

Great story, but I felt like it was a repeat from what they just did a few episodes back. Again, the dragons are forced to be locked up and then shipped out. I think they should have skipped the first time they did this story plot, because this worked much better. Not surprising that the old man was framing the dragon, that I was a little dissapointed with. I like stories that knows how to twist things to make things nearly impossible to guess. Despite that, I'm glad that he's finally becoming much more of a serious threat, than he was in first few episodes. I was afraid all he would ever be was nagging idiot, who might cause mischief here or there, but nothing too serious of a threat. He's finally becauming more wicked. They need some good, villians, and this guy and Alvin should now do very nicely. On the Alvin front, I can't wait to see him. Mark Hamil is a animation voice legend! He's done great for the Joker, and I think he'll be great as Alvin in the next episode. I assumed Alvin was going to be a villian that's about the same age as Hiccup. I wrote my fanfiction here: HTTYD: The Outcast Lands, starting it last year, before Alvin was even though off beyond the book. I can't believe how similiar He's going to be from how I depicted him in my story. I guess my research on the character and guesses at how he may be shown in a movie has paid off.
